When my mom was dying of cancer in 2012, you all were on TV singing this late one night as I was tending to her and the rest of room was so quiet. Your voices filled the silence and it was a very quiet, special moment between my mom and I, like a beautiful prayer for us. I still can't listen without crying, but I still listen 💙
Yep this is most exellent. ..........lovely harmony. .....what good is gold when your heart not true........exellent Greetings from IRELAND 😉 salamat for this gem
The Secret Sisters are working on a new album with Brandi Carlile as their producer! Support their new project here: www.pledgemusic.com/projects/thesecretsisters
This song came off the self titled album Secret Sisters and was produced by T Bone Burnett. Jack White was not the guitarist. Between the ladies sweet voices, Jack and T-bone, they are going FAR FAR FAR! Thanks Ladies
Wow! Hank Williams Sr. would be so proud! These ladies are beautiful and their voices are, too! This is the first time I heard female vocalists sing this! Should be more! This song is true to the gospel and those who live it! I'd love to make a six-figure salary; but I WON'T compromise my integrity or character or sell my soul for it!
Had never heard of them before I them a few months back on WTTW - WOW!! Their voices are magical. Absolutely phenomenal. They don't need anything but a guitar and a microphone. AMAZINGLY TALENTED !!!
My daughter's boyfriend went to school with these girls & introduced me to these girls music. All I can say is "AWESOME" with the old fashioned gospel & country music.
seems such a waste to leave out these lyrics of the song and only sing it as it suits you...sad really...great voices of these women but poor usage of the song is all I can say....read the full lyrics... Jesus died there on the cross So this world would not be lost Sinner hear now what I say For someday you'll have to pay Jesus said, "Come on to me I'll break sin's chains and set you free I'll carry you to a home on high Where you'll never, never die"
These girls could be the band that "pulls the plug" on Nashville and ends their party. I don't even know how current Nashville can watch this without blushing? Oh, the shame. Especially after 25 years of producing corporate rubbish. Nashville lost their way years ago. They should feel embarrassed, hang their heads in shame after hearing these two, young ladies. Real country music comes from backyard decks, front porches, verandas, and church choir lofts . . . it has to come from the home.
@davehallmusic - the incredible Jack White of The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and the Dead Weather produced and played guitar on their first single titled "Big River" a song written and originally recorded by Johnny Cash. Released by Third Man Records (Jack Whites label) in Aug 2010 on 7in vinyl with Wabash Cannonball on the B side. You can find Big River on RUclips and it is well worth it esp if you like rock.
Wow, this is amazing! Notice the no dislikes. Not only does the song sound great, it has awesome words and meaning! I would love for this to be preformed at my church!
This is here a Gift from the Great Spirit above us all. These Girl's can sing with-out anything to make them sound so called good as of the rest of the SO called artist's out there today that ain't got a gift what so ever.I am a musician myself and know when someone has the gift inside just as i do.Sing on Lady's
I bought their CD just on a whim and am glad I did.Words can't describe them.I look forward to seeing them live the first chance I get.Hurry and make another CD, girls.
This is a cover version isn't it? Just like they do on the X Factor? The only difference is you like this song and also identify with the performers and the image they have created for themselves. What you express as fact in your post is in fact just your opinion, what moves you may not move others. The current obsession with 'realness' or 'worthiness' in artists is ridiculous:all performance is to a greater or lesser extent artifice. Like what you like and don't use it as a stick to beat others.
@spittinfairy I'm not disagreeing with you, certainly not on the first part of your comment, in fact, that's what I was getting at. What these women have is the real deal.. As for my car's radio, it doesn't work, I have my i-Pod plugged into it and play the music I choose and it comes from all sorts of sources, including "commercial," some of which is beautifully crafted. There's been some great, what used to be termed "bubblegum," music over the years the Sisters aren't averse to it ;O)
Yes, it's a cover version. And your point is? They also write their own material. I admire good musicianshp from whatever source it comes and couldn't care less about what's considered "real," or "worthy," Offering an "opinion" on who, or who isn't a decent musician, or capable of a performance, such as the one on this video, has nothing to do with "sticks," or "beating people with them."
What are you banging on about? I don't "identify with their image." I admire their musical skill and talent and that is my only consideration and criteria. It is a fact that people who win through on the X-Factor get a big hand up the ladder of success though whether any of them stay there remains to be seen. That's not an "opinion." It is an opinion that I think some of them are "no marks," an opinion to which I'm perfectly entitled. One, you're totally at liberty to disagree with.
The difference is what people is looking for. What WH is trying to say is that people in TV shows isn't looking for artistry but for a product that can sell more records. I also think that people who goes to those contests already knows what kind of music they are going to make. Maybe they are great musicians, actually a lot of them are, but they are trying to make money through music and become popular at any prize. These girls aren't, and that makes them more authentic.
Waylon Jennings once said that country music is not a cowboy hat, a fiddle, a steel guitar, or a Southern accent. Nope, it is none of those things. It is a feeling. And true country music fans know when they hear it. You have to feel it in order to make others feel it. They feel it. "This ol world is full of singers, but just a few are chosen . . . ." They're chosen. I feel more from this one song than I ever felt from the last 25 years of George Strait and his followers' crap.
@ronreagan12 Thank you for the reply! I was unaware of the three different versions and you could possibly be right on the fact that they may not be aware of this version that I quoted. I am glad to see more than myself appreciate these more than the others. I wish I could hear the other one. Do you know of anyone that sings that version by any chance?
they sure remind me of the 50s/60s. clear complection like theirs is hard to find today. it's unusual that they haven't made it big time in country music awards. seems yuo have to have an alchol or drug problem, or several lovers to get recognized today.
Yes, gold and silver will always and forever , melt away. Death is part o life. It all becomes meaningless. Always live your life with love and peace in mind b/c we all live in a proving ground. This is only a test.
This is sublime. You can keep your Cheryl Coles and other plastic artists who'd be incapable of performing something of this beauty yet make millions for God knows what reasons. These two sing beautifully together. We need more focus on talent and less on image as there are so many people out there who can do this sort of stuff who never get a look in, yet no marks on shows like the X-Factor/Britain's Got Talent are catapulted into stardom.. Love these women!
i luv the look but the sounds they make just give me goose bumps ,so damn pretty.keep it like this and dont go in to what they call modern country.luv it girls.
I've also not heard any other version, though obviously I knew it was a cover version. This is, of course, the case with many a song and for me, often the version I hear first, like Bonnie Tyler's version of "Band of Gold," is the one which appeals most. Mind you, I prefer the lyrics used in this version to the ones above, I'm afraid they'd not be the sort of thing I'd be singing along to in the car! The lyrics used by the Sisters seem more universal to me re the references to God etc.
Wonderful
In awe
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hey Nashville, welcome back real country music. Everything these days is just bubble gum pop. I grew up on this type of sound, Wow, awesome!
Marry me Lydia!!!

Great song, love Hank Williams, but this version tops it... Love the harmonies!
I really loathe (SOME) Republicans' agendas. You can't claim to want to "help the people", but you put yourself on such a high pedestal....
