MP Mawanda in the storm of corruption - CIID detectives raid his residence

CIID detectives have raided the home of embattled (Igara East) MP Michael Mawanda implicated in the plunder and misappropriation of 164 billion shillings budget allocation earmarked for the compensation Cooperative beneficiaries who lost their funds in Uganda’s post-independence civil wars when government opted for the liberalization of the economy and closed down the Cooperative Bank which led to the due losses arising from the 1979-2006 wars.
Mawanda is suspected to have misappropriated 14 billion shillings compensation to beneficiaries of the defunct East Mengo Growers Cooperative Union Limited through M/S Justine Mungoma Company Advocates that held the transactions of the union on behalf of their client with some officials from Ministries of Finance and Trade yet to be cross examined.
MP Mawanda was investigated at the CIID Headquarters in Kibuli on Wednesday before he was handcuffed and flogged to Natete police station where he spent a night before he was picked out of the cells by CIID detectives to lead a search at his residence situated at the Lower Kololo Terrus.
