I always feel like such a philistine, because, I have just never really been able to get into his stuff. I think, his old cow boy stuff is cool, but what’s he’s really known for. I just don’t get it. Don’t hate it, just don’t get it. I’d do like the P Craig Russell vibes.
Don't feel that way, we all have our own preferences. For me, it's his lines, the simplicity, but simplicity as a result of a journey to becoming the Master. Also his composition and above all, perspective. One of the best ever who could create depth and sense of space on 2D page. His imagination is on another level. Creating the world of "Incal" with Jodorowsky, which I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't read it, is astounding. But as I said, we all prefer certain styles and that means that you just like what you like. That doesn't make you any more or any less of a comic book fan.
I suppose that the same argument could be made for Frank Miller's work or Hugo Pratt's. Both giants, but acquired tastes.

Every time I read this, I love it. It's a great comic, but I wish Stan Lee's script was as strong as Moebius' art. From a Moebius perspective it is a near total package too, as you mentioned he did all of that gorgeous lettering!
