Max Verstappen started karting at 3 years old. Spent the next 14 years dedicating his life to getting into F1. Managed to get an F1 seat with Toro Rosso (Red Bull's second team) at 17 years old because he's such an exceptional talent. Then got a seat with RB at 18 years old, which was already incredibly early and basically unheard of. But yeah, I'm sure RB just offered a seat alongside him because she drove on an F1 track once😅 And then she was like 'Naww I wanna have kids...'
She probably didn't mean it like that but that's the way she's making it sound and it really comes off disrespectful to those F1 drivers that dedicated their lives to getting into one of those highly coveted seats.

  • @perussaataja

Ok, as a lifelong F1-fan, here are few points: the car she tried in Spielberg was not a Formula 1 car, it was Forumula Renault, sponsored by Red Bull! Formula Renault is one of the series you race on your LONG way to F1. Red Bull would NEVER offer her a F1 drive after a test in a Formula Renault car, that is sure. What they probably offered was a deal in Red Bull junor programme in smaller series. They groom future F1 drivers (Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz are products of that for example) in the junior programme. Also, I assume she did not mean it that way, but she comes off extremely disrespectful towards real F1 drivers: as if you can just enter the series when you decide to change your career.

She's an incredible and accomplished athlete. All respect to her because she'd earned it. But there's a zero percent chance she is capable of making it to the F1 grid. That requires a genuine lifelong pursuit and decades of commitment. It's not a mid-career transition. In a similar scenario, the same would be true for a man as well.

I'm confused by the F1 stuff and who was telling her she'd have to commit etc. Most professional racing drivers who are amongst the best in the world and have dedicated their lives to since they were about 6 years old struggle to get into F1. Its not just something that you switch to because you fancied trying it after ending your main career in your 30's. Im sure she's a great driver, but there is no chance she was getting anywhere near an F1 contract as a main driver in a Red Bull. Maybe she had a chance at some lower single seat series for Red Bull. Not trying to hate on her, but nobody switches from skiing to F1.

I'm assuming she was given the opportunity to try out driving on a track, due to red bull sponsors, and told them she was slightly interested going into driving. And they gave her a reality check telling her they dont think she understands how much of a commitment it is and how she'd have to build up to it and it would take years to get there even if she was good enough . I don't think she meant to say they offered her a spot driving for them, just that she talked to red bull about it

@@richgibb5729 I think your assessment gives short shrift to the fact 100% of the drivers in F1 (including the guys that never go anywhere close to winning races) have been living, breathing and dreaming car racing/moto racing (for some, don’t forget Surtees was World Champ on 2 wheels, too) nearly every moment they weren’t on the track either practicing or racing from the age of what, 8 or 9 in a go kart? TBH, I think F1 would ultimately just frustrate Lindsey. If RedBull wanted to assess her promise in the world of auto racing I think they would be much better served sending her off to train next to Pastrana or with other rally masters and she wouldn’t even have to leave the country: both dirtfish and O’Neil are great places to learn it and TBH I think it would be more her style in terms of not requiring 3 years of putting her life on hold...she’s already done enough of that for 20 years on the World Cup. Besides, with rally she can show her flying ability!

As a F1 fan, that's pretty insulting to hear in many levels, especially the "woman's card". First, you don't just wake up one day and decided to become a F1 driver, there's never been in the history of F1 that some 20 or 30 year old entering F1 from the streets, just as someone walking off the streets never seen snow and decided to entered the Olympics Down Hill Skiing. Drivers start at an early age, some as young as 6 in go-kart, they spent a years developing their skills, they need to understand engineering and aerodynamics, they must give feedbacks to fine tuned their karts. If you are lucky, you make it to F3, then F2, and finally F1. There's a total 60 seats in F1, F2, and F3, those 60 drivers, tops in the world are all fighting for the 20 seats available in F1, what makes Vonn think she can beat these 60 drivers that's been racing all their lives? Now I believed the part of Red Bull Racing, but Vonn is exaggerating a bit. Red Bull 2 teams, F1 and F2, they also have the Red Bull Academy, where young drivers are committed to a 3-4 year program, they live within the academy, they breath and live racing, but they all start at the bottom. 3 levels of Kart racing in the Junior Academy before they can moved onto Red Bull Academy. This would be Vonn's starting point, Junior Academy, understanding go-kart, physics and g forces, settings, etc...and like many other Junior Drivers, they are committed to the program, so Vonn is using the woman's card of, I can't do this, I would have been an F1 driver, but because I want kids, I decided to pass on an F1 career at 30 years old with zero experience.

@@mtadams2009 very great points and normally I would 100% agree. Unfortunately F1 racing is just a breed of its own. In addition to being probably the most competitive (in the sense of being hard to get into) sport on earth it is extremely prestigious in the way horse racing or something like that is. It takes big money and decades of impressing people in the lower ranks of motorsport to even have a chance of getting a low level drive seat in F1. The chances of her ever getting a seat at Red bull (the number two team in F1 right now) even if she put her everything in to it would be impossibly small to non-existent.

Would have thought that a world class athlete as herself would know what it takes to get to the very top of a sport. You can never underestimate the level of pro athletes in any sport, how easy it might even look sometimes. If you think you can drive fast, just go watch an F1 race or WRC in real life, you're nowhere near. There are way more car racers in the world (over all categories) than ski racers and F1 is the absolute pinnacle. You have to be the best of the best of the best to even get a chance to be considered for F1 (arguably the 20 best racing drivers in the world). A lot of people “think about doing F1” you know lmao. That nonchalant tone of entitlement is so demeaning to actual F1 drivers with talent and a genuine commitment to excellence and not just interviews with a nobody

Lindsay is actually living it,and the armchair critics all have negative comments.

The armchair critics probably know what they’re talking about unlike her lmao, F1 is like chess on a rollercoaster and she doesn’t exactly seem like F1 material given those comments in that car

these comments are like "you cant do f1" thats fine because she is the greatest of all time in skiing which is a real sport unlike playing with go-karts

this is what happens in todays world when women are deluded by their feminist narrative that “they can do anything”. No, they cant.
20 of the most skilful and talented drivers in the world who have dedicated most of their lives to the sport get to line up on the grid of F1………i have not even talked about F2, F3 and junior and other up and coming categories. what an egotistical fruit loop.

All these "negative" (but true) comments but no one acknowledges that she'd probably slay Danica Patrick in the first race.
