One thing Todd did was never lie to Starr. That’s one quality he never received from his parents that he needed. Even if it was bad he never denied the bad repercussions

What an a--hole Todd was! Even worse, what a moron. It's obvious he loved Starr, but could not bring his crabbed little soul to show her more than the occasional gesture of tenderness. Much in the same way he loved Blair, but treated her like trash. Blair forgave Todd for so many unforgivable antics, but the poor baby that he was, forgave her nothing, or never let her believe he did. His wounded pride was like a permanent character trait--the only one he hung onto, or so he made it seem. In the early days, when he slowly began to morph from an angry, violent, predatory jerk/sociopath, into a damaged man who was still capable of deep love for the few people who meant anything to him, and showed a few other likable traits, it slowly became believable that (unlike in the case of Mitch Lawrence and other notorious "scumbags") redemption is possible. The writers and Roger Howarth took so much time and thought into portraying the evolution of such a complex character. and that is not an easy thing to make plausible.
The writers could have done just as good a job in *convincingly* protracting Todd's growth into a real human being and thus making it even more worth watching, by having Todd let his guard down occasionally and letting the viewers and Todd's screen family, and later even friends, watch him evolve more a bit more profoundly by allowing him to give those he loved a glimpse into his better nature and his carefully hidden tender side.

Maybe if blair didn't lie to todd 1000× they'd be happy. This is his child & she refuses to tell the truth !

I agree. In the early 2000's he could be the biggest a-hole. Not all the time for sure but too often and we only saw his softer side a few times. We definitely got a gentler, sweeter side of him in 2011-2013, particularly with Blair and Starr. Still manipulative but showing his love for them; the difference especially noticeable with Blair. (But I think RH did not want further redemption for Todd and fought against most efforts to redeem him. He may have left the show once due to those efforts.)

@@debb481I thought todd showed his tender side many times in 2000 to 03. When that imposter victor sr died he held vikis hand gently rubbed her shoulder & hugged her on several occasions esp when he learned about creepy mitch. He also saved jesse from mitch 2x & lindsey who he caught grabbing & threatening her he also trea ty ed blair like a queen protecting her when she saw " red" following her all over town very worried about her. He took her to the penthouse after covering her serious crime & she asked if she could sleep in bed w/ him. He told her bedtime stories & woke up to her cuddling him. He also tried so many gestures to show her how much he loved her. Like when he bought her a huge cake told her skye was adopted blair was thrilled. She even kissed him & admitted she waa about to make love to him had starrs school not called. They did wind up making love & creating their son. Sadly the writers made them both idiots this blair lying for 7 months & rubbing it in tidds face she was having maxs baby. Todd was willing to take the blame & go to prison willing to blow himself up w/ the evidence to save blair. He even got her off by his testimony saying she was temporarily insane. Anytime blair had an obligation to tell todd he was going to be a daddy again. Blair always played these games w/ todd like he was a sperm donor or atm machine. Meanwhile look at the men she sadly threw herself at. Cord was the only decent guy but blair funny enough couldnt be rational that cord was a divorced dad w/ 2 young kids.

@@nattyps3160 He could be sweet/tender during 2000-03 but those episodes were limited. He was also a major a-hole on a few occasions and he tended to be cold. Re your comment about Blair (sperm donor, atm), once again I'll note that Todd loved Blair enough that her faults, which seem to be a huge deal to you, didn't seem to alter his love for her at all except for the initial lies she told in the 90s. With all of their combined flaws, and especially the flaws they shared, these two were made for each other! (Note: I don't agree that she treated him like a sperm donor or an ATM. If she did, even a little, he encouraged it when he kept asking her to marry him-7 times for love (An 8th time due to her pregnancy.)
