I am one of Inna’s students from her March class and I can assure everyone that her school is incredible! Her lessons are well prepared and efficient. She is very responsive to all questions and her assistants are excellent. Ukrainian is not an easy language for English speakers, but she presents her language in a way that won’t feel overwhelming. Дуже дякую, Інно! Слава Україні! 💙💛🇺🇦

Привіт! I decided to learn Ukrainian after I saw a news story about a young woman helping refugees escape the war. She only spoke russian and would apologize for not being able to speak Ukrainian. I also speak russian, but I want to be able to help in their own language. Дуже дякую за ваше запитання.

I really needed this video. In Duolingo we learned another way to express a need, for example, мені треба відпочивати; I need to rest. We saw a few sentences the verb and sentence construction you that gave in this video. It was literally only saw a couple of sentences, so it was barely enough practice to recognize it much less learn it. Here you gave the verb, the sentence construction, and the pronunciation which is very helpful.

    Я потребую
Is this a wrong way to say i need?
    From the verb ПОТРЕБУВАТИ

    • @Irynash11
      @Irynash11 2 месяца назад

      No, it's not a mistake.
But here the agreement is different.
Мені потрібна ЩО? (книгА, чашкА, порадА, увагА)-називний відмінок(book, cup, advice, attention) - nominative case
Я потребую ЧОГО? (увагИ, досвідУ, порадИ). - родовий відмінок(attention, experience, advice). - genitive case
The second is used when talking about intangible things: attention, sympathy, advice, experience, help, etc (увага, співчуття, порада, досвід, допомога тощо).
The first option, a more universal form.

      Last thing
So by saying я потребую книгу..
Would sound a bit strange and not a thing that native speaker would say?

No, the native speaker will say yes and so depending on the situation. There is a subtle nuance of perception that is not reflected in the context of the demonstrated constructions.
      need - a verb.
And потрібний/потрібна/потрібне/потрібні is an adjective (close in meaning to necessary): the one without which you cannot do anything, necessary for something. (Мені потрібні інструменти і матеріали для побудови моделі літака. -
I need tools and materials to build a model airplane.
Мене потрібна допомога. - I need help. (in this moment, for example)).
ПОТРЕБУВАТИ(-ую, уєш) - verb: 1. to feel the lack of something, the need for someone, for something.
Він натякав, що потребує помічника. - He hinted that he needed an assistant.
      2. To require certain conditions for development, implementation, implementation, etc.
Ця квітка потребує вдвічі більше води. This flower needs twice as much water. (generally for development).
Квітці потрібно вдвічі більше води. -
A flower needs twice as much water (usually for a specific situation).
      And another example.
      Я потребую книгу. -
I need a book... (generally for a specific purpose/task when completing a task)
Мені потрібна книга - I need a book (a kind of request, a request in the store)
But don't worry, such subtleties are often overlooked in conversational speech
