7 years ago, I flew from Bangkok to Chiang Mai Thailand on my own ready to explore.
I almost left the city and booked a flight back to the UK on the same day.
In this video, I talk about my experience when I first arrived in Chiang Mai, where I stayed, how I hooked up with a Thai girl and how she found me an apartment and showed me the ropes.

That remembers me of my first day I arrived in Chiang Mai. I was hooked up with a Thai girl that day and after eight years I am still with her. Married with her and living with her. You can't have better memories.

Took me a bit longer in Phuket but I met a wonderful woman and have been with her for 7 months. The good stories don’t get as much attention. Cheers!

Glad you didn’t book that flight brev! I’ve learned a lot from you and other RUclipsrs and I can’t thank you all enough for the knowledge. I met a girl in Phuket and we plan on moving to Chiang Mai or Rai eventually.
My first time to Thailand was 2013, I stayed in Jomtien for three months, it got very hot in February so someone suggested I head up to Chiang Mai because it is much cooler , my stay was coming to an end but I took their advice on my next visit and went to Chiang Mai for three months in 2017,…. I got the 4 year itch to head back in 2021 but we all know what prevented that, so now I can’t wait to get back,… I think my next extended stay will be Phuket or koh Samui , but I definitely loved Chiang Mai ( Brett I actually took your advice and rented a scooter from Chloe bike rentals and was very happy with it )

First night in Thailand I woke up in a random apartment in a stupid fluorescent bar crawl tank top in the middle of Bangkok with no idea where i was
Bruv! This killed me, I remember those peeps legit moving into your spot green hill 😂 That first night of us meeting at Zoe in Yellow was hilarious, I don’t remember the girl’s name but I ended having a decent night with her weird friend Bebe 😅 freaking glad you stayed brother.

I didn't hear the end of the story of your first date + family moving in to your place. What happened? Did you tell the apartment manager that they need to leave? Did you just tell them directly that they have to leave?
What advice would you give yourself if you could go back to before that first date?

I lived in Chiangmai for 2 and a half years, I like the night bazaar area, Tapae gate, not sure if more restaurants, bars, shops are open.

By the time I get there, it will feel like I have lived there for 10 years after watching all your videos! Met an English friend of a friend last week in England who has lived in Cham_am for 20 years. 5 minutes after talking to him, I announced to the table I was moving to Thailand!! and have been watching all your vids :) I am a Brit living in the US for 30 years; after leaving the Marines, I am going to be a retiring NOMAD. Little savings and $2000 from Uncle Sam!

And then what happen to all those people who were in your apartment when you came back home? Are they all your best friends now or did you have to chuck them out? I was or I am still super shy person, who do not normally speak to anybody.
City is very clean
Cleaner than a lot of other cities in Thailand.

Good story but a bit naive to think it was her cousin,move in together first or second day and let her stop,yeah ok.I think by now you are a bit more streetwise than before.its a good story for people to take note of what not to do when you first arrive in thailand ,and especially in Chiang Mai.

I was so scared the first time I came to Thailand I lost around $700 to scams. I was shitting myself.
I lost more with the bar girl from Isan. Her dad was dying. So big trip there. Dad recovered. Think he is dying again. But did have fun.
