Wow, much better venue than the current stage they use there's actually room for some people and equipment. The Lyric theater that is now used ain't got enough room for five people lol. Kudos to a young Sierra Hull, she was on point with her playing and she held her own with one of the all time greats.👍
Holy guacamole! Playing duets with Sam Bush at 10 years old -- no pressure or anything! Sierra, you were a fine, young lady and one heck of a musician even then. This was a great video clip and I'm happy to have found it. Thank you.
Amazing players. Sierra at ten years old is so professional and not nervous at all. Bush is a great musician and having her as an inspired fan must feel great. Glad she got into mandolin.
When I first saw this, I called my buddy and said I quit. He reminded me we’re old with responsibilities and work for a living and she’s young with a huge amount of time to dedicate herself to this trade. Besides some people have a natural ability for certain things. Either way they’re both pretty amazing. I met her once at a festival. She’s pretty chill.
These are some of my favorite types of videos. Established musicians and front runners SHOULD give a bit of recognition and exposure to young talent. Everybody wins that way.
*Yes, it´s young Sierra Hull, the Princess of mandolin.! /at first I caught her sense of wit by shaking hands and then/ Masterfully mandolin playing. Thank so much for posting it !
She is pretty amazing. I’ve seen her back in her early days at Bluegrass festivals. I think I even have a picture of her and I. She’s really nice and truly amazing as an artist.
She has truly become a professional! The first time I saw this video, I was shocked from beginning to end, especially for her age. I love the way everyone's face lights up when she begins to play, especially Sam's face!
Weird to pick this as my favorite part, but Sierra obviously anticipates the end lick stopping quicker than it does....and she still picks it up and never breaks time with her chop. Intuitive artistry and talent, even at that age.
Audie McGinnis I agree!!!! She seems to be a natural. However, I think I remember her talking about how much her family pored into her all along the way. The love of a solid family seems to have a massive impact in the magnitude of a child’s dreams. My favorite part is when she starts to play and Sam bush starts to smile, from ear to ear!
I subscribed to your site, you have got some great stuff on there. I added most of the SH to my favorites. I have see her lots of times and gotten my photo with her. I have not had the opportunity to see SB but I have most of his stuff. I got written permission to post the video clip in question so it shouldn't be deleted. My comment was more aimed at some of the previous comments. But thanks for clarifying it.
Interesting! I will say this, their may be plenty of fault that can be found in just about anything! However, a moment in time has been captured for all those interested to enjoy. Sierra Hull & Sam Bush sounded amazing! That is where it begins and ends for me. This video has generated some unique perspectives. I simply what to enjoy the music and share it with others.
Quentin Fernandez There is some amazing talent out there! I listened to some of your videos, and got the idea you’re born again. Do you use your music or is it just for fun?
@@PossumJoesMando Hi Michael That was very welcome. Happy you liked my videos. Lucky to have this vid on the tube as since the radio show switched to Time Warner Cable as a server somthing like 400 videos that were on the archive page have disappeared its been many months and they still are not viewable and I doubt they ever will be again.Damn shame really.
Wow, it has been awhile since I have had the time to checkout the archives. That sucks. On a positive side I now live close to Kentucky so I hope to attend a show live someday. I got written permission to post this video so youtube should leave it alone.
robertro52 Wow, that sounded great. I don't normally connect with Michael's songs, but it was pretty cool the way they all came together. Thank you very much.
Shoot, I sat on Sam Bush's lap when I was six months old. 38 years later my mandolin skills are basically zero, Sierra was already a hotshot at ten. I think I did something wrong.

@@bluetoes591 It looks like I responded in the wrong field. Thanks. Like ChuckyT below, every now and then I get someone who is bitter and can't help themselves. He wrote more, but deleted it. Thank you.
I don't know much about the man, I do know he provides a great platform for musicians to share their music with the community. I've not had the opportunity to see a show live, but the archives are free and they include the entire show, which is better than the radio broadcast. I've not heard him use this program to propagate a political agenda. As for authenticity counts, the artists present a wide selection of genera. I'm a conservative, but even among this group, positions drastically vary from one extreme to the other. So changing him out for some "hill folk" won't please everyone. I posted this episode because I'm impressed with Sierra Hull's skill at such a young age, no more, no less. Enjoy The Music.
I didn't expect a response. But since I got one, I'll tell you what I think. I suppose I should just keep my peace and enjoy the show. Country music, and specifically bluegrass and gospel music is uniquely American. I am proud of my hillbilly heritage and I resent outsiders siphoning the money, but more importantly deciding who does and who does not get a platform. MJ is not country. He has written many songs and I'm sure works very hard, but that is not the point. He has no connection to the culture, and his motives are suspect. (songs suck too). I guess I'm just bitter, because I don't recognize the country I grew up in and I know who to blame!
It's called "context" and it adds a lot to the video and I'd argue it makes the performance more interesting. You can bookmark this video with a timestamp so it only plays the song, if that's really what you need.

Love the Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour! Even saw an episode live. Balsam Range and Sonny Moorman. It was great.

Yep, isn't that amazing.... and totally adorable!
She is absolutely a candidate for foremost in the world. Top tier at the very least.
And also a phenomenal guitar player
Always love listening to both of these talents. Whenever I see these older vids of Sierra though it just floors me.
A Canadian fan.
This video is pure gold!
Magical things often happen on this show.... just like that.
And to think Sammy and Sierra are still playing together.
Like Sam said, "Sierra is kicking the Good Ole Boys in the world of mandolin right in the A.
