I did mine a tiny bit differently. I used clear glue and then a blow dryer. I was worried the glass would shatter in the oven, cause I'm to forgetful. Lol. It came OUT GORGEOUS! MY DAUGHTER SAID SHE GOING TO DO THE PURPLE ONE. Thank you for this video. We didn't know this could be done 👌😊😊
What a brilliant and cheap way to colour the glasses,l am going to try this out for myself,so fingers crossed that I get the same results as yours. Thank you for sharing your art. ❤
Yay, I Praise & Worship Him, that we have the same thing in mind, only I'm doing it for me 😄 I started out by painting my deck and ramp and even my mailbox a beautiful blue... Our mailman told me the other day that each time he sees my deck he hears ocean waves. Lol
Wow! Thank you so much. Exactly what I was looking for only way better. I scoured the internet for hours looking for something similar that wasn't expensive or daunting. And I almost spent $12 on a can of spray paint that probably wouldn't have turned out exactly how I wanted. Now I don't have to spend a penny since I already have everything needed. Thank you thank you thank you.
Have you tried doing this with the Mod podge Ultra that has UV protection in it? I made a few jars this way and within week being outside almost all the color had faded.
Nice video, but I need to find a way to put a permanent colored tint to jars because I want to put solar lights in them and place some around the yard.
I have a large glass jar that i want to use to store rice. If i used you method on the outside of the jar instead of the inside do you think it'll work?
I want to do some small glass perfume decant bottles. If I dye the inside, will it lease a residue or scent , and interfere with the perfume? Or can I dye the outside of the bottles?
I've been wanting to make my daughter's some purple/lavender lamp posts,,instead of the black & white or clear style & have been trying to come up with an idea,,so that they're see thru, like a suncatcher',,this is awesome,,but I'm afraid that only certain glass can go in the oven & not break,,maybe this is only for a mason type jar?? 🤷♀️ Ima try it
Very hot water will melt the mod podge off and you can clean the glass again. Be careful not to burn yourself but if you put water on a kettle and once it is hot enough for tea pour it in your glasses. Once the coating is melted you can wash your glasses.
I have never tried acrylic colors so I do not know for sure that it will work. As long as you use the mod podge and just a little color I think it should work tho it may be a little less translucent.
Because it is mod podge it is flammable. If you want the same look for candles I would suggest sea glass spray paint on the outside of your candle holders.
I don't recommend this for a candle. Since it is mod podge if you apply heat to it it may melt. If you like the look I suggest using a sea glass spray paint on the exterior of the glass if you want to use it for a candle.
SO I had this idea of coloring glass light shades... I want a BLUE as you produced for my pool table since the color matches the table. Blue Glass Shades are expensive so this will work.... I tested it on an old ceiling fan glass light fixture BUT it was not as transparent as I would like..... I dried it for 7 days before putting it in the oven... does that matter? (wish I can attach photos :-(
You can do it on the outside. It is just a little bit harder to get a smooth surface. I find it's better to paint it on if you're doing it on the outside. Hope this helps!
Yes, use a wide soft-bristle craft brush. Use long slow strokes and try to cover it with as few strokes as possible, keeping the layers very thin and even.
Hi! I want to do this for my daughter’s bridal shower this weekend and put fresh flowers in them for the centerpieces. Would it be okay to put water in for flowers ? Will it kill the flowers ?
I think you should be fine because it will only be a few hours. I have put flowers in them with water and as long as they are not in heat or sun they should be fine. I wouldn't leave them there for longer than a few hours tho only because I have not tested it longer then that. Hope she has a beautiful shower!
The best way that I have found is to not over mix your mod podge and coloring because that creates more bubbles to deal with. Also make sure you smoothly coat the inside of the surface and then tap the jar hard to try to knock any bubbles out. Big ones you should be able to get rid of with a tooth pick. If that doesn't work, some people said using a hair dryer or hot gun works to get them out. The better you prep the jars before you bake them the better they will come out. Hope this ideas help! Thanks for watching.
Starting with the less amount of bubbles is optimal so trying to roller or tap your mod podge and not stir it a lot when adding color to limit the bubbles you make. You can use a toothpick for larger bubbles or a hair dryer to try to get the small bubbles. If your solution is still very bubbling try painting the solution on! Hope that helps.
Unfortunately, you can't use these as candle jars the heat is not safe on the mod podge. You're much better off getting fire safe containers and then using a sea glass spray paint on the outside before you make candles.
You can't use this technique for candles it will melt into the wax and your candle would be ruined. You are better off buying already colored containers or using the sea glass spray paint you can buy at a hardware store. Hope this helps!
Do' you have to put these in the oven? I live in Vegas & it's summer. I'm wondering if I can just put them outside instead? I'm assuming this is to just make sure the mod podge gets completely dry?
Help! My Mod Podge was very bubbly, little ones but impossible to pop every single one. Any advice? I stopped after the first one because of the bubbles...thanks
Hey Tina, the best thing to do get as many bubbles out of the modpodge before you even start. A lot of people shake it to make sure it's fully mixed but that creates a lot of bubbles. I would suggest tapping it really hard to get your mod podge as smooth as possible or roll the bottle along the counter to get bubbles out Then when you add color stir it as little as possible to not add more. If you still have a lot of bubbles you can trying hitting it up with a dryer. Or use a paintbrush to get it as smooth as possible.
Sorry I never saw this comment till now! My best advice is don't over stir the modpodge when you add any color it will add air to it. I would also use a fresh bottle if yours is very bubbly. It can get bubbly when it has been shaking. Coat the glass very thinly and you can use a tooth pick or even a hair dryer to try to get the bubbles out before you back it. Hope this helps! sorry for how long it took me to respond!
You talk about taking the bubbles out? How did you d that? It looked like really didn’t have much mixture to use so we’re just guessing how much to use?
The easiest way to take the bubbles out to slowly coat the inside of the glass and then tap the glass upsidedown to get the bubbles out. Once the sides are coated you can remove any remaining bubbles with a toothpick. As for the solution you only need enough to cover the inside of the glass you are using. Since every glass people use is different there is no exact measurement. All surfaces should just have a think coating. Hope this helps!
Make sure the heat is very low. All ovens are different. You want to dry the glue with the heat instead of melting it out. Try a lower temp or leave the oven open a crack to prevent it from melting.
The red one I did turned out beautifully, but the blue one is more of a turquoise color. Can I remove the coating by soaking in hot water, then try again to make royal blue by adding a bit of purple coloring along with the blue?
If you haven't already tried this yet, I'm sure soaking it in hot water, then scrubbing with soap or running it thru the dishwasher would remove the coating. It's a water-based glue so it will come off glass with water.
@@at0micbunnygirl Thank you for your reply. I did soak the turquoise one in hot water and the coating came off easily. The next attempt was a bit more like the royal blue I wanted for my red, white and blue theme.

I'm just amazed that the glass is translucent when dry!
I love all the Sea Glass Bottles you had in this post and how you did the DIY Tutorial .
Yesssssss that’s exactly what I was looking for. I want to do my niece bathroom in nautical beach style and the blue glass was perfect. Thanks so much

I'm curious, I wanted to do that to my candle jars. Do you think it'll be effected once I put the hot wax in there?
How do u get air bubbles out of paint
The less you mix the mod podge the less bubbles and you can tap the sides of the containers or use a tooth pick to pop the bubbles! Hope this helps.
I want to use this with a flow vase but will it be safe to put my flowers in with water?🙏
Only if you use fake flowers. If you put water in them it will degrade the surface. Or you could paint the modpodge on the exterior surface.
Thank you ❤
Would this work for light bulbs ?? Doing this to the outside of course.
Light bulbs might get too hot since it is a glue based surface inside. I would suggest a sea glass spray paint instead of using candles or lights.
Beautiful will be trying this..thank you!

can I use diy mod podge?
Yes you should be able to use that. Just try to get out any bubbles first.
What temperature did you use?
Do you have to leave the oven door open while baking or can the oven door be closed during this step in the process?
I love these glasses! Wondering, could the glue be applied to the outside of the glass? TIA
I too wondered if covering the outside might work so you could put liquids inside. Even then I wouldn't use them for drinking glasses.

Is the oven temp Celsius or farenheit?
It is Fahrenheit. It should be a very low prolonged heat.
How do you clean them? They look great!
I just wipe them with a damp cloth. Because of the mod podge they are decorations only. You can't use them to drink from.
