Anyone who books a cruise in areas known for hurricanes during hurricane season should not be surprised by the need for changes to the itinerary. Nor should they be angry about the cruise line doing what is necessary to keep passengers and crew safe.

When you cruise to the Caribbean in August, September and sometimes October, you have to be prepared for any manner of changes due to storms, and only cruise from local ports (drive of 2 hours max or whatever means local to you). I remember a cruise that went north to New England and Canada instead of the Bahamas because of a hurricane. Passengers were offered a refund if they chose not to go. Be safe everyone.

I was on the Dream in Liverpool when this happened. All aboard was around 6:45. We headed back to the ship around 4:30 and saw the protestors. At this time, they were loud, but peaceful. We felt safe. They weren't on the dock, they were in the streets near the British Music Museum close to the famous Beatles statue. Around dinner time (6pm) I checked our FB page for our sailing and people said it was getting out of control and buses were being rerouted. A cop was thrown off his bike and his nose was broken. Another's jaw was broken. Everyone made it back to the ship on time and without incident. We left right when we were supposed to. They were protesting the immigration issue. Three little girls were stabbed and killed at a Taylor Swift dance party in North East England by someone who was initially reported to be an illegal immigrant around 17 YO. I think they later found out he was born here and his parents were the immigrants. The people of England are tired of their culture and their cities being over run with mass illegal immigration, which is why they were protesting.

I admit that many did not wear face coverings. The shot Don showed in his video is typical you see a young man who took his shirt off to act as a scarf (mask) over his face. Is it hot and smoky, maybe from the dumpster fires that were started that day. Otherwise why was he covering his face in this case? They probably don't know (or care) about the subject - just the opportunity to throw stuff, and be violent and "tough". It's always the same people. I'm sure the masks have ZERO to do with Covid. Residents in several European cities are protesting against the massive influx of tourists the cruise industry brings. Barcelona is currently experiencing a lot of backlash against cruise ship passengers. It’s time for the cruise industry to work with these cities (Barcelona is an important port for nearly every cruise line) to make some changes. Cruise passengers, no matter the city, are an easy target because we are easy to spot. We are in large busses, we are in large groups, we are wearing some sort of excursion badging, we’re following someone with a lollipop - this needs to change. Personally, I have stopped participating in large excursions; we mostly do On Our Own. We also try our hardest not to “look” like tourists. We tend to adopt a more “European” look when dressing (FYI, white socks on men SCREAMS tourist). The dressier the look, the more attention you’ll draw. Do better at blending in.

I admit though, I don't know my policy well enough to know what would happen if the itinerary were bumped up by a day and if for some reason, I could not make it, how FCC would play into a claim. I carry an annual travel insurance policy much like Don. Though, I hate the presumption by a multi-billion dollar corporation that A) everybody signed up for Carnival will definitely want to sail them again, B) said people that cannot adjust are all happy to take a FCC over a cash refund. And yes, the fine print gives these companies a lot of leeway in terms of rights they reserve. I hate to say it, I've cruised enough that I know that as a passenger, this is purely a business transaction. Much like prostitution, you shouldn't catch feelings, b/c they (cruise line) is only there for the money. It's 2024, and I expect Carnival to do right to their ownership and shareholders.

just because one group is far right doesn't mean everyone else is "far left" that's a lazy assumption.
the far righters weren't even properly protesting anything, they travelled in from outside the city and attacked stores and a mosque (even though the murderer wasn't muslim. there was a vigil for the murdered girls so...yeah attacking that is a great look. anyone remember the westboro baptist church and their attacks of us servicemen funerals?). the opposite side was local people who were defending their town and outnumbered the invaders.
it's easy to throw one's hands in the air and say well, everyone's to blame, but if one takes some time and effort to look into the background of things one might find that not all events in the world are perfectly balanced. that would be statistically...amazing.

I lived in the Tampa area for 39 years. with conditions generated from Tropical Storm Debby today, Port Tampa, Manatee and St. Pete are all probably closed as well as the shipping channel. No Traffic would be going in & out today and maybe into tomorrow. Not after what happened to the old Skyway Bridge when it was hit. Shipping just has to wait it out till it passes and calms down. Both the Carnival Paradise and Margaritaville Islander are currently riding it out NW of Key West based on CruiseMapper.
