  • Pickups aren’t just big, they’re big business. The Ram 1500 pampers like any modern truck these days with features found on luxury cars... if you pay for the extra goodies. Tom Voelk drives the Ram 1500 Night Edition with blacked out trim.
    About Tom:
    Tom Voelk is an award-winning automotive contributor to The New York Times. His podcast was the first to win an Emmy Award. He also married way out of his league. Now, stop reading this promotional copy bragging about Tom's photography and editing skills and watch a couple episodes. It's much more interesting.

    Driving trucks in busy cities is not as scary as everyone makes it out to be.

    Hi Tom, just wanted to say I recently found your channel and have watched quite a few of your previous episodes! Really professional work. I'd love to see some more quirks and interesting features of each car, specifically on the interior, that you might find. To me, it serves as a nice point of interest to make your review worth watching over every other five minute car review on RUclips.

      Hi Samuel,
      Glad you're enjoying the reviews. I certainly look for the good, the bad, the quirks and the stand out features. Here's the deal- talk to any auto writer these days and they'll say the days of awful cars are over. Some miss the mark when it comes to features and tech but nearly all are very reliable. Also cars are "focus grouped" to within an inch of their lives (and much of the tech is developed by suppliers, not the automakers) so many of the same features are showing up on all cars. Much of it comes down to how well the car is marketed and a buyers personal choice. Things have changed radically in the last 10 years. Who'd have guessed that Cadillac (and GM) would make some of the best handling cars on the road 5 years ago? It's why it's such a fascinating business.

    I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Hemi, average 17mpg, crazy to think that I drove a Tacoma for years averaging 18 mpg!! Love my RAM and it has been perfect. I keep browsing to see if there is something new, worth upgrading , since I have 97000 miles, but I don't see anything truly better yet. Hope to keep enjoying it until 150K miles, than I may trade than... will see, so far, it has bee n super reliable... All I do is change oil and tires...

    • @Dogboy1960
      @Dogboy1960 7 лет назад +1

      The Ford is probably the better truck but honestly.........it's too damned ugly to be seen in. It's a drive only at night vehicle and park it out of sight behind the barn by day truck. The Dodge is the much better looking truck by a mile. A country mile...since we're talking pick ups.

    I love it. I'll take it in true blue please!!! The only thing I couldn't deal with day-to-day is how much it is to fill these trucks. $120 is a bit ridiculous. However I'd take this over any Japanese or Chevy/GMC/Ford truck anyday. I guess I'll stick with the Jeep for now.

    i'm not a big fan of "low profile" tires, even running a light car (smart) on 50 series tires, the ride is rough and fear potholes. i had a '17 C300 as a loaner last week (had 40 series tires) last fall i went to 185/60-15's, the largest that would fit in the front and have been rewarded with the best ride a smart can provide.

    Another great review. Did you take this truck off-road at all? And how did it feel when you drove it fast (I mean you must've wanted to really hear that engine)?
    Also, do you think that you'll get to review the new Raptor soon? I've just started to get into trucks and you're right the midsize segment is really gaining steam. The Colorado is really nice.

    I'm torn between leasing a fordf150 and a ram truck which is more reliable ford or ram

    • @billd5211
      @billd5211 7 лет назад +6

      I wouldn't lease but that's my opinion but f150 is better, Ram is always having problems with dumb stuff and FCA in general will probably go out of business. Fords got a nice product but feels cheap. I prefer the GM twins

      a Ram with the Hemi and 8 speed is one of the most reliable trucks on the road today. We never see them come back for any major mechanical or electrical issues. My buddy who works at a Ford dealer up the street has a dedicated bay for Timing chain replacements on the F-150's...

      John Grytbakk ... I have said this so many times how often are you interfacing with your stick shift on the tree or in the console? Bottom line is you start your vehicle, go in reverse, most of the time, put it in drive and you're done...that 8 speed automatic is unbelievable. Do your homework on this transmission!

    And Ram is the absolute dead last in Safety. IIHS says so. This old dated platform is not winning me as a fan anymore. It was my favorite 7 or 8 years ago. But Chevy, and Ford have gotten so much better. The V8 Hemi wants a much newer platform, and better safety, and a newer personality. Ford, and Chevy make the Ram a dinosaur. Paint never hides how old this truck truly is.

      I've owed a 2014 Ram Sport and currently have a company supplied 2018 Chevy Z71. There is absolutely nothing that the Chevy does better. The 5.7 Hemi and it's 8 speed auto are heads and shoulders above the Chevy's V8/Auto powertrain. Stereo and Nav were also way better on the Ram. Ride and Steering was excellent on Ram, best handling Pickup I've ever owned . Although Subjective the Ram just had The Look of a Bad Ass Ride.

      Sorry but these trucks aren't for guys with man buns 😂 chevy/GMC trucks look like El Caminos with thier ground clearance perfect grocery getter 😂 and fords may look more modern but they still look like shit just like they always have they also like to spit out spark plugs I know this from experience 😂
