"How old are you?" "Charlie" "I remember when I was Charlie" "Do we fling it in the air?" "Yeah" This is the content I signed up for! He is so stinkin good with kids and reptiles!
I love that Clint also taught the parents about reptiles. This way, if the kids are interested in getting pet reptiles, the parents will be comfortable with it. I had to wait until I got my own apartment before I could own a snake.
I had to drag my parents to so many reptile expos (I was an insect keeper before I ever got reptiles) and even then it took the cutest young gecko (P. picta). Funnily enough, my dad, who is more afraid of reptiles than my mom, ended up watching her (the gecko) often in the evening XD
I like how Corbin holds the animals over the counter when he starts feeling less confident. It's a great instinct to have in handling, to get them over a surface in case they drop.
Charlie is the cutest little kid omg I couldn't stop smiling. He reminds me of myself because I'm really soft-spoken and shy too! You're doing such a good job, Charlie! You're a lot braver than I was when I was Charlie age!
A Green Iguana was actually my first reptile, and my dad bought two of them for myself and my brother to take care of. (My dad was fairly experienced when it came to reptiles). They were really cool and I miss having them! But they also didn't reach full adult age... My dad made an outdoor enclosure for them, and when we had a cold snap (I live in FL so that's relatively rare), one of them hogged the warm area and the other died. The survivor then fell into a depression and wouldn't eat, and it also died. We felt terrible, but we learned a lot. Years later, I now have a 2 year old Bearded Dragon and a Leopard gecko who are both thriving :) Green Iguanas are awesome, but they get hella huge and require at LEAST intermediate experience with reptiles, if not expert, to thrive.
Thank you for sharing your story. I know you didn't mean to kill your lizard but sometimes they die from the cold and mother nature. Don't ever feel guilty about it you did your best even as a child. However I think you learned a lot and the lizards were good for you and you will meet your lizards someday when you cross over. Right now they are watching over you
This video is so sweet. Clint is a great teacher. I’ll never forget getting to help lift a huge Burmese python when I was like five or six (some animal people from the local zoo brought some different reptiles to let us pet and learn about). I’ve never been afraid of reptiles ever since then, and I still remember so much about that day nearly twenty years later.
@@ClintsReptiles my mom fostered my love of herps. Awesome to see that love passed to the next generation! Exactly what I'd like to do with my little man!
@Suneigh Kita that's great! Herptiles are my favorite group of animals. I grew up out in the field and in the lab with my mom while she studied for her MA in biology. Best memories of my childhood!
I remember showing my niece my BP, she is scared of snakes, but she was also really fascinated by him. She will pet him and such so I think as she gets older with my help she might get over her fear, but if not I do have a bts she can pet.
Aaww that was adorable! You have a talent at teaching children new things. Reminds me of a similar experience I had a couple of months back. A neighbour (and good friend) asked if her daughter could see my snakes. Her daughter's 5 years old, so I couldn't say no. I showed her Pickles, who is a blizzard corn. I took him out and explained some facts about snakes. She was very interested and asked so many questions. She asked if snakes eat snake food (like dog food or cat food). I told her that snakes eat all the pesky mice that steal cheese! I also said that usually these snakes are mostly orange. However, Pickles was born a little different, but that's ok because he's really nice. She even had the confidence to stroke him at the end, which she loved.
Thank you for this video, I am personally nervous around snakes but I was laughing most this video so seeing them handled safely by untrained professionals give me confidence especially since me and my son want a bearded dragon. Thank you so much.
Omg this is so so soooo cute.. Thanks for showing me how to introduce reptiles and animals to children and people in general. Clint is so good with kids it would be a shame if he never got to be a parent (if hes not already) definatly wonderful to see, great video as usual!!
Hey I was wondering if you could do a video showing setups for some of the reptiles you've done videos on. You could maybe fit in some care tips for them like humidity levels, substrate you use, how often you feed them, and I'm sure you could come up with a ton of other talking points for each one. I'm personally interested in seeing good enclosures for garter snakes, and corn snakes. I've seen a few people talk about setups for them but no one mentions the pros and cons of different substrates, how much they clean the enclosure, or anything like that they just show the process of them making the enclosure for the most part.
CraftyChicken91 If you wanna check out some enclosures, you can peep Snake Discovery’s videos! she shows a lot of her setups in her videos, especially for her garters and she addresses almost all your concerns in some of her controversial subject videos and she does a great job of being objective as a keeper/breeder. She’s honestly the only reptile youtuber I know who’s as cool a clint - probably because she works in education too.
Man since those kids started with a good experience of reptiles they will not be as scared, if not at all, afraid of them. Reptiles are unique and strange and are amazing animals. Reptiles really deserve more love and respect from people
Your boa intro made me laugh. I've been working with Central American boas for 10 years and I've only ever had one that was unpredictable. The rest are puppy tame like ball pythons tend to be, but with way more personality. Great vid as always!
Clint, I'm not surprised you have a wonderful way with kids. It's a fantastic skill/talent to have and is delightful to see here. I think even more remarkable is the fact that you bring much of that same wonder to adults. There is a big kid in you, full of excitement and love for these animals, that is irresistible no matter one's age. And it's a beautiful thing!
Thank you so much for this vid! I am moving toward doing these “parties” for kids and adults. I love the idea of showing people not to fear these animals. ✌🏼❤️🐍
I figured it out! Charlie is a source of enlightenment. Clint, you are the herpetological equivalent of Mr. Rogers. And this is the highest of compliments.
I recently handled my friend’s giant reticulated python, and it really does sound like they’re hissing when they breath. Especially when they’re around your shoulders and they get close to your face. Kind of a freaky experience.
I know this is an older video, but it's still SO GOOD! I sadly don't have my own kids, but I do get to be the auntie to two really rad boys, and this has helped me a lot with how to help foster a love of reptiles with them, and letting them hold my pet lizards and snakes! You are so good with kids, Clint!
You're the best father on Earth Clint. Your energy and joy is so childlike and I think that's why people love watching you so much. I've learned so much about reptiles just watching your Channel. I want to get a bearded dragon but I'd really like to get a Tegu. I'm sure they're more expensive than I can afford but I love it when you bring Gus-Gus on your shows
Best advice for handling lizards that I'm aware of is to pick them up from underneath - not grab them from above and around their back - particularly medium to large lizards like iguanas. I would always try to lift my iguana by sliding my hand underneath his chest, then lift under his forearms so that his feet and claws catch my fingers. Then I would just lift him up so it is like he is just perched on a branch. I think its mainly a matter of allowing them to feel like they are in as much control as possible, and not feel restrained, confined, or threatened.
I love this! My 2 year old gets SO excited just watching "Prog" the pac man frog. We don't ever hold him but we have a ball feeding him and turning on his light! What would you recommend for his first holding herp?
Do you find that kids tend to poke when using two fingers? I've always just taught them to use a flat hand. When I worked with stingrays, the two finger thing usually ended in poking lol! Would it be possible to get a video with advice, tips, or tricks on how to select the right animals and get them ready for handling around kids/crowds?
Please please please make a video on the veiled chameleon! You know so much about reptiles and I really need a basic guide about them. I am a beginner reptile keeper, but I just love chameleons too much! I'm making sure to educate myself before getting one though.
I can't wait until my nephew is old enough to handle my bull snake. I really hope my little brother raises him up not to be afraid of reptiles like how we were raised.
