An iconic song for all Australians, and music lovers worldwide. I have always absolutely loved everything about this song. Thank-you so much...Peace and Love.
this is the best song ever! I grew up with this in the 1990's and we used to dance to it... so Aussie and when Aussie music was good and carefree ! Oh bring back the 1990's
I so remmeber this song, flooding all the nightclubs & everyone kicking off there heels & hitting the dance floors. it was such a big hit. didnt make it to no 1 in the Australian charts, but was in the top 10 for I think 9 weeks,,quote me if im wrong..love this song..thanx for postn
EXCELLENT WORK=SO SPEECHLESS-ETERNALLY GIVING ......GIVING THAT HISTORY THAT R,DREAMING IS REAL-=NOW=ACT=DANCE=DONT STOP NO MATTER WHAT....NEVER CAN STOP ETERNAL SPIRIT.WINNING-NOT A DREAM.THIS IS REALITY.... ETERNAL SACRED CULTURE.
Damn it.. i feel like dancing !! Just let it all out hands everywhere, legs entwined and jump in the air, hair flying to space and body sways uncontrollably !! ..lol..i know that sounds crazy but its the power of such music , turns my dull days to life !! haha!! .. join me in dancing ;- )
i'm a kiwi and I'm all 4 the Aboriginal people. I love their culture. They r the nicest people, they tell it how it is. Love it! This song is the Bomb! Love hearing it every time.
been almost 20 years now since i have been down under, hard to believe, i think you tend to forget less when you're younger, to me it seems just like yesterday me, 8 years old, standing on top of ayers rock and having that epiphany like "wow i'm not in canada anymore".
i remember i was in a london pub/club type venue... and then this song came on... hadn't heard it in yonks... i'll give you the word - everyone was feeling the funk in no time...
I'm Serbian Australian and I have the utmost respect for the indigenous people of this great land. I've seen both the worst communities & also the successful ones firsthand. We, the non-indigenous, have all benefited immeasurably from the immense natural wealth of this land.. land that was taken from its original owners by force & vast displacement.. all in recent history. The handouts/dole/housing, etc are minuscule compared to the incalculable value of the land taken & now inherited by us.
I think a small handful of people, relatively speaking, are too driven by their own fears of the unknown to be able to grasp the beauty of other cultures and ways of life. Once you get past the fears, you can appreciate all the wonderful, diverse beauty the world has to offer.
get it right fools aboriginal means born to the land so that is what i am and im white as day but indigenous aboriginals are completely different. it does not matter what colour skin you have this is a great song by a great artist
Treaty was composed by Yothu Yindi in collaboration with Paul Kelly & Midnight Oil to protest the failure of the Australian Government to honour the Prime Minister's promise to Indigenous Australians at the Barunga Festival. The song was remixed in Melbourne by Filthy Lucre in 1991 and rapidly climbed the Australian charts.
This remix was produced over twenty years ago. I don't know whether your comment was addressed to the RUclips uploader but there was little time between the 'original' arrangement of the song being released and this remix. If you think rock = guitars then it's less 'rock' but I think this song rocks the boat more by doing away with the structures contained within the "normal" song which conformed to typical pop/rock standards. This remix wasn't crass exploitation of content but a respectful take.
mate as a father of 8 and sharing aboriginal heritage my kids goto school and use being black as a positive thing when they say we can cause we're black thats music to my ears
You don't get it. Treaty was originally a song of hope for the future of Australian Aboriginals, and as a way of educating people about governmental and religious injustice. People are "having fun" in TREATY (not the remix) as a symbol for Yothu Yindi's hope that the gov't would recognize that stealing children from their mothers is a gross injustice. Only then could the country begin to put the scars of thousands of ruined lives behind them and move on. This is not the msg of the dance remix.
I'm a third generation Chinese Australian, I still don't understand why the whites call themselves aussies rather anglo aussies and tell people to go back to their own country when they should do the same themselves. And now all I see in the prior comments are arguements about Aboriginal culture. If we were to do them a favour, we should pay them with upmost respect and leave them alone.
I have just played this to my American wife and she has no clue whats is being said between the sticks being clapped together well neither do I... Still what can I say being Aussie
Considering I have a major in Australian History and Sociology and a Doctorate in Psychology I think I know pretty much all there is to know about Australian History. My thesis consisted of references to 249 books on the subject so how about you go and dig your head back in to the sand or just continue to ignore the elephant in the room that people seem too gutless to recognize.
Nice to know you cant have an argument/discussion with out slander. Difference between doing a task and understanding the what/why/how/when of the task while completing it. Knowledge is limited, creativity is endless - Albert einstein, think about that next time you try to not use slander to make your self look defeated and want to prove your point. subzerostorm:1 Agnelum1: 0
Ima Proud Aussie but Im discusted by some of the coments here. Racism is truly fucked. Sure you get some aboriginals that are drunks and what not but there are more white guys that are as bad or worse. I havnt known many Aboriginals but the ones I have known have been respectful and good people.
