Thanks, Chris, when Lennon and McCartney heard George Harrison's 'Something', they both acknoweged he had reached their sonwriting level, It was a US number one, but 'only' got to number four in the UK. A great choice for your top spot, a perfect song to remember an incredible event in space (and for all humanity). Since the twelve men walked on the Moon (1969 to Dec 1972), no one has been back, perhaps we need another space classic song to encourage them!.
Hello Chris. Enjoyed the video (and series!). About two-thirds of your list were in my list for 1969 I did on Facebook, which I posted to my friends. I post a single a day on Facebook (to my friends), which I began during lockdown in 2020 and I’ve sort of kept it going on and off. ‘Rag Mama Rag’ by The Band made my list for 1970 (when it was a hit) and the first 3 on my list were in your list for 1968. 1969 was the first year I can remember hearing all of the following singles for the entire year and I was only 3 at the time! This stems from my Mum leaving me sitting in the living room with the radio on to keep me quiet when I was a baby/toddler so she could get on with the housework, etc. and all the music played on the radio I seemed to soak up in my head and it’s been in there ever since! Nearly all of the titles of the songs and artists on the records I didn’t know about until finding out many years later. Thanks again Chris! Here's my list for 1969: Going Up The Country - Canned Heat Mrs. Robinson - Simon And Garfunkel Albatross - Fleetwood Mac (If Paradise Is) Half As Nice - Amen Corner I'm Gonna Make You Love Me - Diana Ross & The Supremes And The Temptations. Wichita Lineman - Glen Campbell Where Do You Go To (My Lovely) - Peter Sarstedt Gentle On My Mind - Dean Martin I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Marvin Gaye Monsieur Dupont - Sandie Shaw I Can Hear Music - The Beach Boys Sorry Suzanne - The Hollies Pinball Wizard - The Who Goodbye - Mary Hopkin Badge - Cream Dizzy - Tommy Roe Get Back - The Beatles With Billy Preston Medley: Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In (The Flesh Failures) - 5th Dimension The Boxer - Simon & Garfunkel Living In The Past - Jethro Tull Oh Happy Day - The Edwin Hawkins Singers Gimme, Gimme, Good Lovin' - Crazy Elephant The Ballad Of John And Yoko - The Beatles Something In The Air - Thunderclap Newman Honky Tonk Women - The Rolling Stones Give Peace A Chance - Plastic Ono Band My Cherie Amour - Stevie Wonder In The Year 2525 (Exordium & Terminus) - Zager & Evans Good Morning Starshine - Oliver It's Getting Better - Mama Cass Marrakesh Express - Crosby, Stills & Nash Natural Born Bugie - Humble Pie Space Oddity - David Bowie Love At First Sight (Je T'Aime… Moi Non Plus) - Sounds Nice Featuring Tim Mycroft I'm Gonna Make You Mine - Lou Christie Lay Lady Lay - Bob Dylan Everybody's Talkin' - Nilsson Oh Well (Part 1) - Fleetwood Mac He Ain't Heavy.... He's My Brother - The Hollies Sugar, Sugar - The Archies Something - The Beatles Durham Town (The Leavin') - Roger Whittaker Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday - Stevie Wonder Melting Pot - Blue Mink Suspicious Minds - Elvis Presley
Fabulous list. Thanks for taking the time to share it. Some I have but my collection is limited. Years singles were released are not always the same as the years they charted. But it’s a chance to share great music. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment. Cheers, Chris
What a collection of singles you’ve curated there Chris. I’m going to set this up, in exactly the order you have shown them, as a Spotify playlist. So pleased you have placed Peter Green so high. He and Steve Marriott are 2 of my favourites from the late 60s early 70s. They both have sad stories but what legacies they left us with. Keep up the great work. PS you are surely too young to have bought these when they first came out!
Cheers Ian. I got my first single in 74 aged 11. So I was 6 when these came out - too young! I’ve collected them over the years. Thank you so much for watching. Enjoy the music. Chris
Hi Chris, a good year for more great songs. Surprised Creedence weren't in there with Bad Moon Rising and one of my favourites from that year, Tommy James, Crimson And Clover, I think Joan Jett covered it. Although I'm not an Elvis fan I do like Suspicious Minds. As for Bowie I was a massive fan in early 70's and now my 26yr old daughter has all my Bowie vinyl, she thinks he's great. One more thing The Clash do a pretty good version of Time Is Tight by Booker T. Thanks again.
Creedence Clearwater revival just awesome hope you are ok Chris another brilliant video certainly agree with your choices on most of these have a brilliant Wednesday
I agree with the top three Chris.... I'd have slid in Time Of The Season and Polk Salad Annie. (weird how we remember the silly records of a particular year).... Pick of The Pops and Junior Choice-have just come to mind watching your top 30! Much appreciated.... Ian. PS: Maybe a vid on Sampler lps would be good? Your Backtrack Hendrix song reminded me! Transatlantic, Polydor, Dandelion, Probe, and Sire did a few. Ian.
I recently watched an old b & w clip of thunderclap Newman on RUclips, really interesting to see Jimmy Mcculloch of future wings fame on guitar, think he was still a teenager then.
Great series Chris 👍 not my favourite year this & I despise Space Oddity it's just one of those tunes I never want to hear again, we all have them 😂 I think my favourite Trems song was this year, Call me number one & Israelites, return of Django & liquidator were all around which were much more my scene 🕺Good stuff, cheers 🍻

I’m not massive on Bowie at all but that is a sheer nostalgic pick. I hardly own any ska on 45. Need to put that right!!
Are you going to do a 70s mate
Might do a 1970 just to link up 60s and 70s. If there’s interest I might. Thank you for your support. Cheers, Chris
