- This golf irons comparison takes a look at some of the newest game-improvement irons on the market, including the PXG 0211, PING G425, TaylorMade SIM2 Max, and Callaway Apex DCB irons. Each of these golf irons is designed for forgiveness and easy launch. But how do they compare against each other?
In this video, 2nd Swing's Jackie Johnson and Drew Mahowald put them to the test using Trackman technology.

I know this is 2 yrs old but great review. Great that Jackie is more in the realms of reality for us average golfers. Excellent.
The new PGX 0211 XCOR2 is the bomb. I'm so glad I have it.
I recently bought the 0211’s after playing pings for years. I know the lofts are jacked but before I hit my 7Iron 137 now I hit my 8 150+. Great looks at address as well. These are rocket launchers high and straight. Love them!
Thanks for your feedback - Thomas
Right, and with PXG at 80.00 a stick now - the PXGs at @nd Swing are GROSSLY Overpriced.
i've had 0211 with the low end graphite R shaft about 4-5 rounds now, and getting the same results. i was playing the ping i-25 and the R steel shaft 7 iron was 130yds. now the pxg 0211 150yds. i'm 72 yrs. old and 12 hdcp. they are a much lighter club and about 1 degree stronger. good short game feel also and a bargain at $79 per.
Im 75 PXG are best ever
@@beedee9534 i have the pxg 0211 but not totally sold on them yet. i haven't got them zeroed in on the exact distances yet because of the extra length i'm getting and the 4 and 5 iron only go about 15 to 20 feet off the ground but they do go the distance. i think the lofts are only 1 degree strong so maybe it's the shafts which are the low end graphite R flex.
0211 dc st it's current price around $630 @ 4-gap. Really hard to beat 1/2 the price of callaway apex. Just bought them, played 1 round and felt really terrific 👏 👌
You reccomend? I'm looking to purchase them too. That price us hard to turn down but buy a club online you cant really tryout first is intimidating
I play the G425’s and I absolutely love them!!
THey're great for sure!
g425´s gave me 10 extra meters and a lot of confidence.
Based on your dispersion photo, the PING G425 was WAY more consistent.
My 0211 with MMT 80g shafts have insane high trajectory. Had to switch back to steel
Just ordered the callaway dcb’s with mitsubishi mmt graphite shafts. Looking forward to hitting them. Can’t complain about a clubhead thats forgiving and forged at the same time.
0211 dc took 4-5 rounds to get used to them. Love the little lower ball flight really solid. Other set is mizuno 919 hotmetal pro,pxg lot more distance
I bought the Apex DCBs this May and LOVE them! I looked at all of these clubs to compare, and for me it was feel and dispersion that won over everything else. Plus the ball flight and sound are unreal! So consistent!
Thanks for watching. With the Apex DCBs being forged they will feel softer and quieter than the others in this comparison.
I would hit the 2 favorites one more round to see if the dispersion changes.
Yeah it would be cool to see them take the two finalist clubs on a course and see how they actually play. Maybe pick a hole or two and play it back to back with each club. This comparison definitely has my interest.
Is it possible to add the Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal (pro).
Thanks for these! What do you think of having a top performing model from 5-10 years ago as a baseline on these tests? I feel like that would play to 2nd Swing’s strengths as well.
Good call Rob. We'll add that for future tests
@@2ndswing That is awesome :)
Dispersion data on 5 swings is literally meaningless. Statistically insignificant sample size.
Love my Apex DCB 😍
They're great irons!
From the day the G425 irons came out just about every review I have read or watched complained about the sound a fee. Interesting that the tester found them to be her favorite.
It's always going to be player dependent. The G425 & G410, G400 irons have done incredibly well in fittings for us - Thomas
On another note, I really appreciate watching Jackie demo the clubs. It has been hard to relate to most videos where they are hitting 7 irons 180 - 190 yards. I can really relate to her numbers.
Maybe if you take the flyers out you would get a more accurate dispersion circles.
I just bought PXG 0211DC irons for $77 bucks a piece ... and a driver for $219.! How does THAT compare? Nuff said.
I would question why they are so cheap? 🤔
@@2ndswing I would question why other's are so much more expensive. You want to know why sports other than golf are way more popular? Those costs are more manageable. I've been involved with procurement, in my past, and I can , with certainty, tell you these manufactures are ripping off the end user. PXG's while might not fit me, properly, are more of a direct to consumer than any other brand. This contributes to their lowered costs. Golf is expensive because these manufactures are making a killing in profitability.
@@2ndswing military discount of 50%
I’ll second the pxg, tough to beat a custom fitting for $60 and a full set for 700. Up here in Canada the other sets are 1,200-1,500 and no fitting.. Pxg done and in the mail.
Competition is good! PXG also has some good options - Thomas
No hot metal???
I would like to see Thomas hit the PXG 0211...
Seemed to try to Put down the PXGs quickly
They were longer and more Accurate. I know mine are
were these 0211 dc?
0211 DC is the way to go, half the cost
Did she use a regular or stiff flex graphite shaft? I think I have a similar swing speed but I never know to go with a stiff or graphite shaft since it is so much lighter than a steel shaft.
Jackie uses a regular flex graphite shaft. At a rough estimate with your 7 iron club speed I suggest the following ranges 70-80mph regular 80-90 stiff flex. There is going to be different situations based on transition speed but this is a good ballpark to start. Jackie's 7 iron club speed is around 75 mph - Thomas
The answer is in the video
I never understood why people want more distance out of an iron... golf is about being able to produce a consistent distance with minimal gaps. I want. 12 yard gap from my sw all the way to my 3 wood. A strong lofted iron ruins that whole plan
Yep. If my 7 iron goes 150 every time I’m happy. Don’t need it to go 200.
This is a great point Mike!!
Everyone chases distance, even pros. It's an ego thing. But the key to really enjoying golf and maximizing golf ability, like you said, is finding clubs and technique that get you the most consistent distance in every situation with every shot. I'm finally content with my driver distance after 15 years of golf. Now the real fun begins.
Sorry guys but tons of research and statistics have you wrong. Mick Ritchie you don’t need your 7i to go 200yds? So you’re saying you can hit your 4i as accurately as your 7i? Only in a rare find will someone be better off hitting their 4i rather than their 7i for their approach shot. Unless the there is a very penal rough most golfers will do better hitting a wedge from the rough over a 7i from the fairway. I guess you guys haven’t read Mark Broadie huh? This isn’t opinion, it’s fact.
@@thevinsk what are you even arguing lol? There is not argument that says a person would be better with non consistent distances because of poor gapping
Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro
What shaft was in the G425 and Apex DCB?
Callaway sounds the best, Ping have the numbers!
Callaway epic forged beats them all! Pxg great value and 425 for premium on accuracy
Thank you for watching - Thomas
Guess it comes down to price. I have a set of apex forged and mizuno 919 hotmeatal pro and just got the 0211 dc. At the current price I couldn't afford not to buy it.$630 4-gap mitsubishi mmt 70g shafts. What a great deal!!!
Awesome swing
Pxg jacked their prices up when they came out .. and everyone followed. Then they slashed their prices and are now more affordable for the same thing.
Thanks for watching. Competition is a good thing - Thomas
Good
There’s no way only 5 shots with each club says anything meaningful trend wise. It’s laughable. She’s not Iron Byron. Need a larger sample size to get any good information.
5 swings is not a realistic sample size !
0211 on center shots occasionally just "bombs" away and goes over greens. Frustrating
How about a Callaway 2020 Mavrik vs 2021 DCB?
This is a good idea!!
If one takes the jumper off the sim2 it would have won.
Played with a guy who had sim 2 max, and they were beyond ugly. I am surprised most reviewers don't mention how cheap and gimmicky they look. I'll take my Wilson blades anyday of the week.
We're the mizunos
?
Who's the mizunos?? You??
Pxg are $77 per club. No brainer.
As long as they perform the cost is pretty good! - Thomas
