    Heading down from Scafell Pike a few years back I came across a young couple walking an elderly spaniel that had decided it could walk no further. They were clueless. I asked them if they would expect their grandmother to do the walk. Anyway, I got them to move all their equipment from his backpack into hers and then get the poor old dog into his backpack for a lift back down. People need to assess their dog's ability just as they would if they were taking their children walking.

    For those who understand the name and the breed Saint Bernard, this video is quite special.
    The Saint Bernard is named after the pass of the same name. They have rescued many lost travelers.
    It's quite touching to see the rescuers return the favor.
    I don't know all the details, but I'll venture a guess. This Saint was taken for a long hike and suffered from hip dysplasia.
    I have a very sweet Saint, he is three and already has passed 160 pounds. I walk him several times a day, and feed him with the goal of keeping his bones healthy.
    He eats more than I do. I cook for two.

      @@PoeLemic problem will be solved for that leg, because it won't be there anymore. But now the remaining leg will have more weight to carry, running risk of injuries to that leg as well.
      I try to treat people and my animals the way I would want to be treated... two legs are easier than one for a human, and four legs are easier than three or two for an animal.
      It's your pet, but I would get a second opinion from another doctor. Amputation, if it can be repaired, isn't the best route.

      @@BlueSkies3 You are right, BlueSkies. After you texted me, I called my Vet and told them what you said to me. So, I'm sorry. I should have thought about it more clearly. I was worried about money, but I had called my Vet. They finally had time to talk with me. So, they said they'd set up a Payment Plan. Thus, I will go in a different direction now. So, thanks for writing me back and helping give me a reminder to do the "Right Thing". It just costs money, but the Vet said they'd work with me. Thus, thanks for your caring and concern. I'm gonna do what both you & my Vet think now. Because I love my Pupper, and I want the best for my LIttle Friend.

    • @BlueSkies3
      @BlueSkies3 4 года назад

      @@PoeLemic @Poe Lemic Things are so very expensive, especially any medical.. both for humans and animals, so I understand and wasn't judging.. was just knowing that surgery can usually repair those kind of injuries.
      Hopefully your veterinarian will be able to guide you on the right therapy to help the leg heal better after surgery.
      I know some veterinarians do laser therapy, which they say helps wounds/injuries to heal faster and I think helps ease the pain too. So you might want to ask if your veterinarian does that too, if not, maybe they can reccomend someone.
      Glad you were able to consider a different route.. and it's a good thing when a veterinarian will work with a client, so that client can afford to make payments to help give their friends a better quality of life.
      Hope the surgery goes well and your sweet friend heals up without any complications and has full use of the leg once its completely healed. Hope you and your friend have many healthy and happy years together.
