    Absolutely phenomenal content, watched every second start to finish which is rare for me. Was extremely happy to stumble across such an in-depth video on this bike. I just traded a hard tail chain drive ‘05 Sportster 883 for 2/3 asking price in cash and an ‘00 ZX6R with 30k miles that needs a bit of love visually but runs great. Never had a 600 class bike before, went straight from an ‘08 Rebel 250 to an ‘88 K100RS + ‘03 K1200GT and while I could handle them fine they were just too fast to be fun while commuting which is why I ended up building the Harley. Finally got frustrated with being slower than I’d like (and my back was frustrated with the hard tail, hitting a pothole on that thing made the bike behave like a bucking horse) and decided to try and trade it for a 600. Super happy I ended up with the ‘00 ZX6R, even more so after discovering this video, and look forward to keeping up with the channel as I work to restore the bike to its former glory and then some.

      Hi.
      Thanks so much for the indepth comment. I'm please you enjoyed the video.
      I've just sold (Feb 23) the J2 but have my A1P which is identical apart from the 636cc. Was really down to money as just not worth me keeping both for the mileage I do.
      I done a load of filming at the end of Feb for a ULEZ video but my Go Pro corrupted the footage.
      I'm not doing filming in March to take a rest.
      Any questions you have fire them over. Honestly these bikes are brilliant.
      I'm on Facebook, think the links are in the video.
      Thanks again for the comments. Tim.

      Also which colour did you get bud.

    • @specialydobon
      @specialydobon Год назад +1

      I got a green with black sunburst and white accents one but the only surviving fairings are the front and subframe ones. I was going to buy the same color/design it originally had but the tank has a few dents and some worn paint so I’m thinking of just going unpainted and repainting the tank to match whatever color I go with. There is a good condition rust free tank with the same OEM paint work style but between the price of that and the painted fairings it’d be over double. I’m actually rewatching this whole video right now as it’s I’m about to order all the parts I need to restore the bike and wanted to know which parts were quality as it can be hard to find parts for these bikes these days and a lot of it is chinesium junk.

    Used to have a red and black 2000 model. Bloody awesome machine. Was faster A to B than a Fireblade on the road. Had Bridgestone BT56 tyres and with the legendary Kawasaki front end feel you could push these things so hard and you just knew exactly how much you had left even in the rain. That’s why in group rides with mates on Blades, R1s etc you could always run rings around good riders on faster bikes.

    Thank you for this video. I picked up a silver 98 G series yesteray with 20k, for £1700 and she seems in good shape for the age and price. Looking forward to making her even better and owning snd riding what feels like to me, a piece of motorcycle history. I love the noise and she drips old school vibes. I'm in love

    I've enjoyed your vid and info
    My A1P clocks have melted at the same place around six thou when I've noticed it.....I thought it was the strong sunlight in Manchester😄
    I don't think I would attempt to put led , me and electrics don't mix it's like oil and water.
    I do understand and sympathize with you about illness, I've been through heart attack, five bypasses, kidney dialysis and transplant the last four years, eight months ago I couldn't put my leg over, and everyone was saying to get rid but my love for the ninja and the support of my wife kept me sane, and I am improving slowly, and adding some miles on the clock.
    Seriously I thought I was the only one who felt like that for this model.
    Thanks for sharing 👍

      @kawasakizx6r813  Год назад +4

      Thanks for the comments. Yeah I put the fascia down to the sunlight due to not having the standard screen until i spoke to this bloke.
      Really sorry to hear about the health issues. I think the health issues are one thing and the mental side is probably harder.
      Personally had my own pity party for a couple of years plus the medication I'm on and stuff I tried gave me nightmares about my childhood and stuff I thought I'd dealt with. Depression is a killer and to be honest it's something you never get rid of, you just end up learning to live with it. My wife is an Angel. Without her and my inlaws I'm not sure I would of made it.
      The bike gives me direction and peace. Sometimes I sit in the garage on a garden chair, just breathe the air, and fall asleep lol.
      I'm lucky to have what I have. My back going again was probably the best thing that ever happened to me. It put me in check of what's really important and who are my superficial friends. Yes it's taken so much but it's also given me the opportunities and it's the positives I now focus on.
      I'm on Facebook page:
      98-02 Kawasaki zx6r only.
      Feel free to PM me anytime.
      I have three loves in my life, my wife, my children and my bikes, in that order lol. Take care mate.

    I'm 55 and got my first sport bike in '90, an FZR400, and I think the bikes from the '90's-early 2000's are the best street bikes but still rip on track days. They used to design them for the street and track then around the time everything switched over to FI they turned into street legal track bikes. They make a little more power but the powerband is peakier, they spin higher but you lose some of that midrange. Riding positions got more aggressive, most have no underseat storage, ect. I've had newer bikes, newest was a '09 6R but my favorites are the last generation with carbs.
    I have an '03 Fazer with a Penske and revalved forks and it's as good as anything on the showroom today. Found this channel because I want another 600 supersport and I'm looking at getting a '07 ZZR600 for mostly track days. Great bikes.

    • @kawasakizx6r813
      @kawasakizx6r813  Год назад +1

      Hi mate. So in 92 I purchased the Fzr600, was gonna go for the little pocket rocket 400 but decided 600cc. I loved that bike and had many happy years on it, touring and street riding.
      The simplicity of these zx6r carbs are the reason I love them move. I think in the US they call my A1P a J3 which is the same as this with the 636cc engine. Still carbs.
      Your right, I've ridden most modern day bikes and I get back on mine and think wow, this is amazing for real world biking.
      Ride safe and thanks for the comment Tim.

      Anyone who has ridden my J2 or A1P have been absolutely flabbergasted. My mate who is a Honda nut said, well this pisses all over my CBR600F. For some reason he though it would rattle or be clunkie on gear change, not ride well and generally be awful. These bikes are looked over for some reason and I must admit, I would of done the same. I came across mine my pure luck after searching for a cheap bike to get back on and honestly feel they are the best bikes I've owned and for real world use and parallel to anything.

      Thanks so much for taking the time for watching a long video but also for taking the time out for such a wonderful comment.
      I hadn't done a video since feb 2023 and just started doing them again and it's comments like this that honestly keep me going.
      Really missed doing them.
      There isn't a great deal of info out there on these bikes and a small amount of effort/mods can transform these great bikes into brilliant bikes.
      I sold this yellow J2 as wasn't using the bikes and couldn't justify keeping both. Now just have the Grey A1P and plan to do a 4 year review June/July on that as get asked so much, "what is better"? "Is there much performance difference"? "Is it worth changing".
      I do absolutely love these bikes and just think they are so underrated.

    Nice life story, great to hear how your bike has helped you along the way. I recently bought a mint J2 with 8000 mile on the clock, great bike except for bad vibes through the bars sending my right hand numb. Don't remember this problem on my 2001 Zx9r.

      Hi. Thanks for the comment, it's really appreciated. I think I say I do these videos as much for myself and hopefully help someone on the way.
      No I've not had vibration through the bars on J2 or A1P and both my throttle side weighted bar ends have been removed for brake lever protection. Those bar ends are plastic and I've left the weighted standard ones on the clutch side, still no vibrations.
      Trying to think outside the box, maybe head bearing bolt a little loose. Could that cause vibration through it? I'm not sure.
      It maybe worth joining the 98-02 Kawasaki zx6r only facebook forum and asking the question.

    Looking forward to doing the RCS19 and braided lines. I already have the EBC double HH sintered pads and I am very impressed with them over the original toyo manufacturer pads that we're still on the bike.
    I pulled the front and the rear calipers and thoroughly cleaned them reinstalled the pads.
    My front right hand side brake caliper has one seal that has just the slightest leak, but I have other bigger problems so I'm going to come back to it later. Likely rebuild both sides and have my local powder coat shop put some fresh gray color and slightly darker gray for 100 dollars

    • @kawasakizx6r813
      @kawasakizx6r813  Год назад +2

      Powder coat is defo a better option than the spray. It said on the paint not to put a gloss protection spray over as doesn't need it. I disagree and at some point I'll pull them off again and redo.
      I'll have to do a fitting of the Brembo as most people will buy the Brembo resevoir. Well I couldn't get it to fit so used standard one with a bit of brembo tube between cylinder and resevoir. They are different size nipples so you have to really force the hose onto the resevoir.

  • @specialydobon
    @specialydobon Год назад +1

    When I redo my fairings I’m going to explore running a bit of black silicone aquarium tubing from the Ram air inlets to the location on the cluster that commonly melts and maybe drill a hole on the back of the cluster to fit a 1 way valve so that cool air can flow through the cluster. I’ll be riding the bike 120-150 miles a day all summer on my commute to work so I’ll know by the end of that if it works to keep it from melting or not lol.

    On this off chance it's useful to anyone - Black Widow Exhausts still have systems in stock for the 6R - Js and A1P
    Bit of a silly name, but having had them in the past, I can say the quality is bob on, and prices reasonable.

    c. 14:00 comparisons with Yamaha and Suzuki. I've worked on all of the Japanese brands at one point or
    another - Kawasaki engineering is on a different level altogether - I put this down to K approaching their
    manufacturing with a different mind set > being involved with heavy industries as they are.

      I've worked on a couple. My mates Honda cbr600f 2001 plate is a nightmare to work on. To put a speedo healer on you have to take the rear shock off as the connection is underneath, I kid you not. Just everything is so hard to fit on it. Everything is so simple with this year/model of zx6r. Love it. Tim.

    Very nice bikes you have there mate, I have the Y2k ZX9r, basically the same bike, both awesome and one of the best looking bikes around. If you still don't have a solid brake lever with those brakes you may need to purge the air out of the back half, that is where most people go wrong and get spongy levers. Just remove one at a time, put an allen key or something between the pads and while operating the lever while you turn the caliper upside down etc, instant solid lever once both are purged, even with the og master cylinder.

      I've ridden alot of bikes and this just works for me. Again adjusting the bike to suit which lots of people just leave. Much prefer 600cc to 1000cc, suit my riding style and don't scare me lol.
      If your not on Facebook page 98-02 Kawasaki zx6r only page there is a ton of help and also I've uploaded the 2003 performance bike magazine article there to read which again will give a ton of ideas.

    Well done on keeping this K in such great condition! How've you found the gearbox responding to the QS in terms of wear/any issues?
    The common consensus seems to be that some older bikes don't gel well with them, and they can cause a few niggles. Because of this,
    I'm a little bit weary of going down this path.

    • @kawasakizx6r813
      @kawasakizx6r813  Год назад +2

      Thanks so much for watching and the question on the QS. This is an interesting one. When I first fitted the QS it was on the A1P. Set up does take some patience as its a sensor which you have to get the pressure right from the bolt holding the QS and link arm on. This I found a pain to set. Once set and then all the settings in the app all done the QS was brilliant. Most people who tried it said its better than any manufactured QS. My mate has a new 2022 Ducati Multistrada and it's smoother than that. When I swapped it over to the J2, the whole lot had to be set up again. The pressure of the bolt in the instructions is 5nm torque and I find that to tight. Once I'd sorted that again I found all the settings in the app had to be redone as though this QS works different on every bike. So I would say I couldn't give my settings to anyone its trial and error for everyone which is a shame. Now it's set again its very good. You do have to have a positive shift through the gears. Personally I was saving for the Translogic QS for the A1P. This does look like fit and forget from all the reviews so want to try that however I've spent the money on a Go Pro lol, which I'm waiting to arrive. Hopefully then my videos will have clearer audio on the bike with smoother image.
      I'll be doing a review on the A1P soon, health and weather providing.
      As far as gearbox wear. Honestly I can't say, when it's not set properly you have false neutrals, massive jolts which obviously is no good for the box. I don't think I've had it long enough to say. If you listen to my gear changes up, you can hear how smooth the QS is in the video. It also makes riding round the track easier, imo, for me.
      I'll keep everyone updated.
      I'll also be doing some fitting videos, like the brembo master, rear shock, oil, filter, plugs, brakes, secondary air valve delete, advance timing. Basically all what's done to the bike and servicing.
      Thanks again for watching. Tim.

      Hi.
      So the exhaust is a full Arrow hi level titanium race system with a large carbon oval end can.
      I purchased from ebay from a guy who gets new old stock Arrow exhausts. Cost £725 including import duty.
      It's an absolute brilliant system and honestly with I'd removed it when I sold the bike as they are extremely hard to get hold of.
      The brilliant thing about them is they are quite upto about 7000rpm so crusing on the motorway and stuff isn't deafening. Also for track at 7000rpm it's 98db stationary so clears all the trackdays.
      Also being a full system it has no baffle and able to produce as much power as possible with no restrictions.
      I believe the guy does currently have a 3 bolt slip on. If your interested I can try send a link. I've had two full systems off him, totally genuine guy.
      Thanks for watching Tim.

The bike is so much more fun to ride now (added a HealthTech SpeedoHealer , but First gear is very short now; How do you manage with a 14 Front Sprocket !? Cheers from South of South America.

    • @kawasakizx6r813
      @kawasakizx6r813  11 месяцев назад

      Hi Bud. Thanks for watching and the question.
      To be honest I have no issue at all. On this J2 I ended up on 14t front 43t rear, so thats even shorter. This was because I started doing some track days and that suited, however I still rode it on the road and never felt that first gear was an issue at all. I suppose it does depend on style of riding as I can imagine if your trying to do a fast run 1/8th mile then yes it's gonna run out of legs quick.
      On my A1P or J3 in us i think, I run 15t front 43 rear. Again never had issue but I'm normally out of 1st gear by 8krpm even if I went for it as I'd red line in second and above.
      On this video the track evening, your see I'm normally 2nd to 5th around the track so 1st is literally just pulling away.
      Hope that helps.
      Thanks again for watching. Tim.

      Hi Steve. Not really sure. I'd have to have a G and J fairings next to each other. The support fairing would need to be changed as the clocks are different and I don't know where the G model fairings all bolt up as to if they would match. The ram air top covers are different, so again is the width of the nose cone wider or thinner. Also having different headlights I'm unsure there is enough space.
      Its defo not a quick take one off and put the other on. Don't think it would be cost effective. You would probably be better selling yours and getting a J model .
