Im Ghanaian and in my experience most men in the diaspora are putting women through hell. You may be able to get a few more traditional values like marriage from Caribbean or African men but they still cheat, start multiple families ,and will likely expect you to carry most household labor. My experience is that black men from black-majority countries are smoother in their approach than black men raised in white-majority countries. They have a confidence that comes from not being broken down by racism daily. Then of course there are all the horror stories that you are witness to from your female friends and family members who dated black men from various places. I'm from the Caribbean and 9 out of the 10 black men I knew well growing up there were not the type men I would want to be in any kind of committed relationship with. Misogyny, domestic violence, alcoholism, untreated mental illness, cheating, absentee fathers, multiple baby momas, authoritarian, spendthrifts, drug abusers, often not in education, employment or training. the thing is I never saw the same level of dysfunction in the women.

I'm a blk American woman and I've dated blk American men only 5 times in my life and I'm 40. She is 100% correct in her assessment of blk American men. That's why I've only dated men of other races and men from other countries. I'll even go as far to say that blk African men are the same way, especially if they have been in the States long enough. I've always dated outside of my race and it made me have few blk American female friends because of it, but I never cared because I didn't have to deal with half the stuff they did and I made it out of high school and my 20s without becoming a baby mama.

Apart from the “coffee date”thing, she’s right. Black American woman here (of Jamaican maroon descent, so unambiguously DSBW). I have dated Black American men, and unfortunately, a lot of them are like that. It’s like they’re highly offended if a black woman, *especially* DSBW has standards or desires. There’s a sudden shock and vitriol that comes with it- almost as if it’s a “how dare you ask for anything when you should be lucky *anyone* is even given you the time of day?”
Or it’s the rundown of how they only date lighter/brighter/exotic/ white women, as if you’re made to feel that you should be grateful they made a “special” exception just to date/talk to you… which will persist throughout the entire relationship in different ways (ie, an active campaign to “humble” you by bringing you down and destroying your confidence and self esteem until you tolerate them / leave.)
It’s sad because it feels like there’s this belief in America that DSBW are supposed to “stay in our place” at the bottom of the barrel, and be available to black men whenever they’ve been rejected or used up and broken by other races, or just “there” for them and accept them as they are, with no expectations and no questions asked.
But to be fair, it’s not limited to Black American men. Quite a few Jamaican men can be that way, too, with colorism & colonialism too- can’t tell you how many times I’ve met Jamaican men that are proud of having a nonblack or white wife (and not the top of the line ones, just barely made it out the woods with a GED and all their teeth, y’all), or Jamaican parents that are “proud” of their child marrying a white person, and share that as a fact just as much as saying “doctor” or “lawyer”.
The diaspora has issues, but it’s not everyone. And for the record, a coffee date is fine- sometimes, people are busy, we may not like the same things, and it’s okay to take it slow and simple.
It’s not just a dsbw issue. I’m a lsbw and most black men try to humble me into settling for less. You have to be at least ambiguous before they believe you deserve to have standards and that’s because they know they’re competing with other races of men. Partly why they do this is because they expect all black men to behave the same way and black women are always screaming that they only date black men

I haven't dated any American guy of any race since highschool...I've dated mostly European men...French, Italian, British...I've noticed a lot of this Red Pill BS u see tending is really only an American thing..The whole body count..what do u bring to the table..Submit but still go 50/50..I've Never had to deal with any of that...and Have had pretty good dating experiences.

I feel coffee dates are great first dates. Especially if you are meeting up with a stranger. It is a good way to get to know someone and see if you want to go on another date. Great way to screen.

Every black man I have ever had a conversation with would protest about how much they disliked black women. And then on top of that, they would ask me my own race. I just refuse to even talk to anybody about race because it quickly turns into a conversation of, which race which color is better and it’s stupid. It’s so stupid.

Some of us don't need to agree to coffee dates simply to check someone out first because we are not meeting men online. When we meet them out in the wild, we already know that the vibe is right. The 1st date is when they get the chance to impress the woman they have approached and persued.

I feel like The Americans are really taking this to heart. She didn't say she doesn't date black men , just American black men. Yes African men are trash sometimes but i get what she means. The way most African women are raised American men usually cant keep up to those Standards our parents instilled in us. Im not saying we were raised perfectly but we still have our culture that is really important to us and dating anyone in the West really makes us revaluate what we know and want to keep to those standards especially if you come from a home where the men treated the women really well. As an African I have my own cultural practices some I will practice some are too misogynistic for me to follow but with Americans a lot of them don't have that and will make you feel bad for practices you choose to continue. So many people think coffee dates mean drinking coffee. 😂 It can be a meaning for a short meetup to get to know one another. When I use to date, I met up for a glass of wine, coffee, ect. Heck one bad date I had the guy didn't have his wallet and wanted me to buy him a meal. I walked him to a nearby busy park instead , we walked and bid goodbye. Keep it short or don't but a long dinner date for someone you dont know at all can be miserable.

Dates: at this stage of life I typically have an understanding of a person's employment status prior to a date, and no I'm not dating a cashier although it's no shame in it we just in different places economically. I will 100% do a coffee date and have actually suggested it because initially meeting someone can be awkward and something more casual is better just to see if you vibe.

I have dated a black guy he was sweet and sadly due to us moving across the globe we ended it. I understand though that isn’t the norm. My dad is black though and has been married to my mom who is also black for over 20yrs and I learned from him what I should want in a man. My first boyfriend who was white took me on a coffee date and it was so much fun and so laid back I really enjoyed it. My black boyfriend picked me up in some fancy car and took me to some very fancy restaurant it was nice but I hated it 😂 it was too boujee and sterile/srs for me 🤣. But it was fun. Once he learned what I like he took me rock climbing and hiking and stuff and we really clicked. I think the date doesn’t matter so much it’s if you click. And I completely love coffee dates they are fast and quick easy to vet them. More women should preach coffee dates for this reason. I know women are pushing against that but I love coffee dates 😂. I am so tired of these kind of topics. I am a Caribbean girl. I am living in Europe. I want to touch about coffee dates.
I am happily married but always tell women and men to do coffee dates. In Europe coffee dates are normal. Coffee date is a way to test the water by putting your toes first. And if you like that person, you invite that person to have dinners. I am a lawyer, it takes me 20 minutes to see if I really like the person. Can you imagine you do not like the person and have to endure two hours having dinner with that person? That is why coffee or ice cream dates are ideal here in Europe.
Americans look down on coffee because the country is based on capitalism. The bigger, the better. Your culture is based on flexing. Meanwhile in Europe there are gorgeous coffee shops where you can have coffee, hot chocolate, fresh bread, etc.

No some people don’t like coffee. Some people are lactose intolerant so they can’t have dairy products so these dates aren’t for everyone.

Although, if I was still on the dating scene, my idea of a nice (simple) date would be taking a walk somewhere scenic, stopping for a takeaway from Starbucks to get a strawberry frappe (or ice cream from a vendor) and continuing the scenic walk to the destination where we part ways. This would only work on a nice summer's day. Winter would call for indoor activities, such as a jazz cafe, or even a large mall (the type of mall that has everything you can think of e.g. restaurants, cinemas, casino etc)

I think if your an older women, than ofc you should get more. Especially, if you’re well off into your career and you’re financially stable. However, tbh if you’re in the younger side (early 20s) coffee dates are fine. I also think even if you’re in a specific tax bracket, coffee dates are great. 30mins long, it’s short and sweet and it’s less intimate and personal. Also less pressure. Tbh you only need 30mins to determine if you want to see a person more. If it doesn’t go well you won’t have to split the bill because all you got and paid for was a coffee. Regardless of the race coffee dates are great. I think dinner dates are more for someone you have been dating and you seem them a couple of times. Plus spending over 30mins with a man for a first date is way too long in my opinion.
