I'm a long time late to this. But I'm sorry to tell you that I'm pretty sure you won't find a studio version of this as it's a cover of a David Bowie original. I know I'm prob not the first to let you know this either but still. Great reaction man, love your reaction to the rock scene in the 90s
Great reaction, please also try 'Where did you sleep last night?' from the same MTV unplugged concert. It's an old song made popular by Leadbelly's 1944 recording. A true classic and Kurt does it full justice with all the pain and sorrow a man can put in his voice. PS The late, great David Bowie wrote 'The man who sold the world' and released it in 1970.
Polo, for the studio version, you'll have to hear David Bowie's version as Nirvana is covering that song. It's great, it's Bowie. The vibe of the song is there, but Nirvana gives it something extra special and poignant. This is Nirvana's prime version of the song. As someone once mused, "David Bowie was so ahead of his time he covered Nirvana's song 23 years before it happened." Great reactions, dude. Peace.
In my humble opinion, the best song from this Mtv Unplugged session of Nirvana is "My Girl". The song is their take of an old blues song by Huddie "Leadbelly" Ledbetter called "Where did you sleep last night". Kurt straight up murders the vocals on it. So much pain in his voice.
This is a great cover of David Bowie’s original. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden are the epitome of my high school years. I was and still am a car carrying member of the Grunge Era.
@margaretmcglynn5077 Bowie live , is a double live album , it's excellent, but two tracks, inparticularly Panic in Detroit , and Moonage daydream , have Demon guitar solos , Earl Slick , I think it is , so long ago , but awesome listening
This is hands-down the best unplugged there ever was and I feel like Kurt knew what he was going to do and he put everything he had into this unlike any other show he's ever done😊
I know about 125 000 people will have told you by now. But this is a cover of an old ass David Bowie song. Bowie himself wasn't fond of the song but he though that the Nirvana cover breathed new life into it. One of my favorites personally. The groove and the mood. Love your channel. Keep on keeping on.
As a general introduction to Nirvana, you pretty much have to listen to Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, In Bloom, Lithium, Stay Away, Something In The Way, All Apologies, Rape Me, and Heart-Shaped Box. As someone that grew up with rock, these are definitely some of the songs that built the foundation of my love for rock/metal as a young man. I’m sure many other people are in the same boat. I still love them just as much as I did in the 90s. There’s other great Nirvana songs of course, but all of these songs are absolute gold. Sorry, my list started off with just like 3 songs but there’s too many good ones to limit it to just three haha. Love your channel man!
The drummer for Nirvana is front the front man for the band Foo Fighters (hugely successful) and did a colab with Jon Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin in the band Them Crooked Vultures.
This was a very unique choice for your first look at Nirvana. Their usual sound was a lot louder than this, though they did have some slower tracks. David Bowie wrote and sang the song first. The unplugged show used to be on mtv in the 90’s and 2000’s before MTV got taken over by reality tv. Many groups and artists would do versions of their hits or some deep cuts or covers, which Nirvana did on their performance. When you check out Nirvana next, check out a studio track like Lithium, Come As You are or In Bloom. That will give you a real taste of their true sound of grunge in the 90’s.
Unplugged is an MTV series from the 90's. They had artists that were known for being on the louder side with electric instruments and "Unplugged" them. Other acts include;Stone Tempel Pilots, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Korn, Aerosmith, and Kiss. All are amazing.
This was far and away my favorite Unplugged show. It is just Important. This is a show that should be preserved. This is art. This is Humanity. In the very best and saddest ways.
Nirvana is another band to me you can't be afraid of venturing waaay outside their normal radio hits as it is most of the juiciest tracks. They can be be amazingly somber sometimes and other time make the hardest thrash.
Was on a camping trip with 3 friends when we heard on the radio he had died. Shock, anger and gut wrenching sadness was felt by all of us. It didn't feel real that he was gone. Kurt was a legend and so damn talented. RIP from someone who still loses herself in your music daily💜
This unplugged concert is amazing definitely laid back from his screaming in other songs. Check out Where did you sleep last night last song he sang at this show.
This was a cover of David Bowie's song. David loved Nirvanas version. ❤ A moving song from two amazing artists. Both versions are great. David made the song in the 70s I think .
Great Reaction!! I love Nirvana’s version of this song. The song was written and performed by David Bowie, who is a legend!! Check out another song from the same show- Where did you Sleep Last Night - awesome performance!!
Watch the rest of this unplugged performance. In my opinion the best unplugged ever done by any single band. This whole performance is legendary. Watch Watch Watch the whole thing.
A whole bunch of flavors of rock, but things always get real when the acoustic guitars show up. Edit: and never deep dove into Nirvana outside of the radio tunes, but "Come as You Are" and "Heart-Shaped Box" have earned their places in history, for sure
This song is actually a cover of a David Bowie song. For this Unplugged performance, they chose to do mostly covers, which they didn't have to. Most Nirvana doesn't sound this mellow, but does have that sad or something vibe. The entire performance is worth watching, but I recommend next at least to react to Where Did You Sleep Last Night.
This was a brilliant Unplugged gig. Sheer brilliance. “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” is another banger from this concert. R.E.M.’s 1991 “Unplugged” is also brilliant. “Perfect Circle” is my favourite. Thanks 🙏🏻
I can't imagine this being my introduction to Nirvana. Best thing to do is listen to the Nevermind album. Start at Lithium (track 2), and play it through 😎👍 Good song though. The entire concert was a cultural even, especially after he died.
Interesting on your first Nirvana taste is going to be an Unplugged cover track. You picked a pretty good one 🔥. But going forward I wouldn’t expect this vibe.
I love that you caught the folk vibe. Nirvana did sing folk songs in this performance (though this in particular is a Bowie cover), but grunge grew out of punk and punk has a lot in common with folk. Both punk and folk have a DIY ethos and a communal, anyone-can-do-it, inclusionary sound.
Great reaction,🎉 This is a cover of a david Bowie song…. Not sure if they did a studio version. You asked for something harder? They can accommodate: Lithium, In Bloom, Breed, Heart-shaped box, ….. lighter: About A Girl (unplugged or Bleach studio version) Drain You
I am a Gen X kid who graduated high school in 1991, and I feel that I was engineered to have the poignant and bittersweet speak to me. Nirvana and Pearl Jam certainly did then.
So thrilled that you are doing Nirvana. Absolutely love this song and so many others. Plateau is also awesome. But his cover of Where Did You Sleep Last Night is a must listen.
My favorite song of theirs in this special! Nirvana is dear to me and I feel so much of their music. Check out their drummer ... it's Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters, just in case you didn't catch that lol
You will love the David Bowie original. Kurt is brilliant too, but Bowies voice is sublime. Plus he wrote it so he is more connected to it if that makes sense.
Watch this whole concert! MTV Unplugged! This is just 1 song! It’s funny to me that this is your first impression! Love it! You are in for a wonderful surprise!
Such a beautiful song. This is a cover of David Bowie's song, if you get the time you should check it out even if it doesn't make it into one of your vids. Both are amazing
I know this is an older video, but I gotta say this is probably my favorite song. Definitely my most listened to song. It was great when Bowie originally did it, but the Nirvana cover just turned it into something so different and beautiful.
You cannot go wrong with any song by Nirvana from this MTV Unplugged Session. If you need to start somewhere then go for "Where did you sleep last night".
This set was awesome. Nirvana was basically perfect throughout and everything was very well done. Some of the best covers ever (Man Who Sold The World, Where Did You Sleep Last Night) in lieu of their own hits. 🤘✌️♥️
Curt had his soul flowing to his music when I was 23 years old I first heard Nirvana back in 1992 and it was all over from there. I would have loved to meet Kurt cobain.
Nirvana was one of my saviour bands. I grew up in washington state in the 80 and 90s so nirvana was gospel. I favorite song depends on my mood. Today its Breed. Dumb makes it on my playlist a lot though.
I love that Kurt played a right-handed acoustic guitar, flipped upside down and strung backwards to function as a left-handed guitar. And, of course, the fact that they decided to cover obscure songs/artists rather than attempting to simply meet expectations by exclusively performing their own hits.
Great song - one of their best, in my opinion. As others have pointed out, this is a cover of a Bowie song, but it fits their style perfectly. That whole unplugged album is fire, BTW (which should surprise nobody because virtually everything MTV Unplugged touched turned to gold, like some sort of musical Midas). Check out “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” from that same performance... just be prepared to be blown away. If you want a track that really typifies Nirvana, then my money is on "Come as You Are." P.S. Nirvana is a grunge band, since you asked; Grunge is a type of alt rock that blew up in the early 90s, largely thanks to Nirvana, which is considered one of the big 4 Grunge bands coming out of the Seattle rock scene. The others are Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Sound Garden. These bands are pretty diverse sonically, seeing as Grunge was more of an aesthetic than a particular sound, but they all have something in common: each one was lead by a phenomenally talented lead singer. Four "once in a generation" type voices, all contemporaries - the early 90s was an incredible time for music.
That was an awesome review and comparison to the "country/western" vibe. You have that ability to interpret things precisely as they are. Definitely one of the best channels about reviews I've ever watched.
Saw this when it first aired and was blown away having long been familiar with the song as a huge Bowie fan (got to see him once in concert and he was incredible). I can't wait to see you react to Pretender by Foo Fighters!
Great video, love it and the song. Not sure if you’ve done this one but ‘Come As You Are’ is a must! It’s a great Nirvana track, one of their greatest hits. I think you’ll love it too!
This is a great song. I agree with the sound of his voice being kind of subdued and, perhaps, lamenting. If you want to go the opposite direction of this song with Nirvana... and find that crazy you're looking for... see if you can find a good video of their performance of Territorial Pissings on Saturday Night Live in 1992.
I love Nirvana. Their cover of In the Pines on unplugged is my personal favorite but they had so many good songs, Pennyroyal Tea, Lake of Fire, Smells like Teen Spirit... The list is long. Also I find it funny that you picked a rare song that doesn't include the very unique screaming that only Kurt could do. It's hard to describe the emotion that his voice carried when he would do that but it was powerful and it touched something deep inside your soul. Beautiful and tragic. Edit: I think the title for In the Pines may actually be Where did you Sleep Last Night. Also since you love story telling in songs may I recommend Carolina Drama by the Raconteurs? Good luck figuring out what happened

Where do bad folks go when they die, they don't go to heaven where the angels fly
@@dannysowder2303😂😂😂 my mum used to love that song whilst she was cleaning., dunno why but she always asked for me to put it on.

This is a David Bowie song. Kurt Cobain did it more than justice here on MTV unplugged. Classic.
For the most part I agree, I think it’s pretty funny that Kurt messes up the lyrics and starts mumbling at a part though 😂
The whole unplugged series from mtv was fire. Nirvana Pearl Jam Stone temple pilots Alice in chains and others was peak music
Ya, some bands were great, but the series as a whole was awful lol.
Alice In Chains Unplugged is their best. "Brother", "Got Me Wrong", "Down In A Hole" are A+
Even the Jay Z unplugged with the roots was fire af
+1 on that. Neil Young too. 🙂
Nirvana and AIC were gold!

"aneurysm" live at the paramount by Nirvana.

Yes
YESSS!! Amazing song 😍❤️
Yes please
Thanks to David. R.I.P. Sir
This is a great cover of David Bowie’s original. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden are the epitome of my high school years. I was and still am a car carrying member of the Grunge Era.
Me too lol
Yeah. Song is Bowie. RIP Kurt. Yeah, the pain in the voice, dead on. Do some Bowie if you don't know his stuff. Try "Changes"
@margaretmcglynn5077 Bowie live , is a double live album , it's excellent, but two tracks, inparticularly Panic in Detroit , and Moonage daydream , have Demon guitar solos , Earl Slick , I think it is , so long ago , but awesome listening

This performance makes me cry every time.

Bowie himself wasn't fond of the song but he though that the Nirvana cover breathed new life into it. One of my favorites personally. The groove and the mood. Love your channel. Keep on keeping on.
There's no Nirvana studio version because this is a David Bowie cover. You could check that one and many others from Bowie, a true musical genius.
This is a Nirvana cover of David Bowie's song, " The Man Who Sold The World" they did a fantastic job!
I absolutely loathe anyone who says Nirvana is overrated. This is music.
Amen
Hey Polo this is a year later and I have watched you do this reaction maybe 10 times and it does not get old.
“Where did you sleep last night”. It was such a great song to go out on.
As a general introduction to Nirvana, you pretty much have to listen to Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, In Bloom, Lithium, Stay Away, Something In The Way, All Apologies, Rape Me, and Heart-Shaped Box. Have fun going down the rabbit hole of Nirvana.
grandmas house lol nirvana has so many great songs! rip Kurt
The whole band is amazing. Kurt, Dave, Christ, and Pat joining in.
The drummer for Nirvana is front the front man for the band Foo Fighters (hugely successful) and did a colab with Jon Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin in the band Them Crooked Vultures.
Along with Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age, which is another great band he should check out.
This was a very unique choice for your first look at Nirvana. Their usual sound was a lot louder than this, though they did have some slower tracks. David Bowie wrote and sang the song first. Why did I have to scroll this far down to see someone mention that Bowie wrote this song?
Kurt's voice and tone is pure gold in this song cover.
More Nirvana and grunge and 90s rock, please! So glad I got to be around when Nirvana first came out and then exploded 💜

Lulus Duet with David Bowie is to die for doing this number
“Where Did You Sleep Last Night” from the same live performance. If you enjoyed this you’ll most likely enjoyed that.
The best! I remember watching it when it aired the first time.
This unplugged in New York does not have a bad song on it. ‘Where did you sleep last night’ is the best though. Love Curt’s voice and emotion.
Unplugged album every song is beautiful
Where did you sleep last night? is an amazing song to review from this same unplugged set. You wont be disappointed.
This was a cover of David Bowie's song. David loved Nirvanas version. ❤ A moving song from two amazing artists. Both versions are great. David made the song in the 70s I think .

You need to watch "Where Did You Sleep Last Night?" from this same performance now.
Love you brother! Spiral out into Nirvana. Ha
That entire unplugged album is a masterpiece. This isn't how they usually sound though. I would listen to the whole performance straight through.
Their live from the reading festival 1992 is so amazing and immense energy!! Lithium is a good one 😊
I think “Come as you are” is a song very in tune to what you embody on this channel … and a sentimental favorite for me as an OG Nirvana listener
You really should do some Pearl Jam; Jeremy, Even Flow, and/or Black.. to name a few.
"Where did you sleep last night" would probably show the most emotion, both vocally and physically, I think.
Watch the rest of this unplugged performance. In my opinion the best unplugged ever done by any single band. This whole performance is legendary. Watch Watch Watch the whole thing.
Best cover ever IMO
Notice that the drummer is Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters. This is a David Bowie song, not your typical Nirvana style song.
Nirvana changed my Life path!✌🏻❤️
Nirvana MTV unplugged is all great
if you like this vibe, listen to Where Did You Sleep Last Night from the same show. They are both covers btw.
A whole bunch of flavors of rock, but things always get real when the acoustic guitars show up.

The MTV Unplugged album is great!! "Something in the Way" and "Where did you Sleep Last Night?" are really good from the live show.
A great cover of a great song. This song ties together 2 great musicians we have lost, Bowie and Cobain.
If you didn't know, the drummer here (Dave Grohl) is also the drummer for Queens of the Stone Age and singer/guitar for Foo Fighters.
This was a brilliant Unplugged gig. Sheer brilliance. “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” is another banger from this concert.

Love “where did you sleep last night”. Possibly my favourite by Nirvana ❤
Listen to literally any song, Live, studio, it's all good. Enjoy the ride, it's a painful one, but amazing.
You will love the David Bowie original. Kurt is brilliant too, but Bowies voice is sublime. Plus he wrote it so he is more connected to it if that makes sense.
