- A court order to integrate schools in Cleveland, Mississippi, was announced Monday, a day before the anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education. While Cleveland School District officials contend they have made big strides since they were first ordered to desegregate back in 1969, the federal judge ruled that wasn't enough. Michelle Miller reports on the divided town.

Ok. Let me get this straight. I live in Cleveland, and I am completing my final year at Margaret Green. Next year, I will be attending Cleveland High School. In no way are we segregated. We are given the choice of which school we would like to attend for a reason. The fact of the matter is that there are more black public school attending teenagers in Cleveland than there are white. That is why East Side is 100% black. Cleveland high is about 50%/50%. It's sad that they are forcing us to come together as one high school and won't let us work it out on our own. At this new school, there will be many more fights because of rivalrys between East Side and Cleveland high. There will be many teachers that are out of jobs. It is not a good Idea and it think they should just let it be.

I am curious on an update. Most of the rest of the US do not get to decide what schools they go to. They are zoned off by the town. That alone seems odd. We have 2 middle schools in our town and depending on where you live determines what school a student would go to. You pay your taxes based on what should the students in your area attend. You may have free choice but it might not be the best for all involved. I guess it’s just different where you live

Why would the schools be desegrated because of the poverty line?
A month or so before school started this year, the teachers and faculty were given a lecture in the gym about how they should accept people coming from different backgrounds and of different ethnicities and to not follow implicit biases. It's not as if most of the faculty worked at East Side and moved over to CCHS, noooo. Everybody that went to CHS has to be a horrible racist that would never want to go to school with a black person. This is what these diversity police believe.
At least the staff seem somewhat competent at running a school now that they have combined.

They need to stop trying to desegregate everything. You do not have to work in a diverse society. If I didn’t want to work around white People I would easily move to Deserto TX, or Start my own black owned business. The same can be said about white people. I don’t want to diversify everything, sometimes it is good to just be around people of your community, you complexion and you culture. Stop trying to diversify everything that is ridiculous. If white people want to live around other white People there is nothing wrong with that. If Asians want to live around other Asians there is nothing wrong with that. If black People want to live around other black people there is nothing wrong with that. This agenda is ridiculous, not everybody wants people of other races inside their households or speaking languages they don’t understand. Some people just want to be around their own kind and that is okay.

The main objected of the schools should be to provide a good education to every student and not to try to advance aristocrats with private schools.

It all depends on the quality of education that is received and whether the schools are forcefully separated by race. If East High is equal with Cleveland High academically, then I see no need to integrate the schools, unless they are forcefully being integrated, which would be a violation of the Brown vs. Board of Education Supreme Court ruling in 1954. Therefore there is no need to integrate.

This is all BS...My HS is the same HS since before I went there. With a 94% minority rate. I had books that my uncles, and aunts had. The divide has been here way longer than the story of Cleveland HS. I honestly believe they should do MORE majority black schools, as there has been decades of neglect, and rules designed to keep those schools in the same shape they've been in. No funding, no care, no attention etc.

Colored people have been oppressed by a few elite evil white city planners from like 1920, and now every single citizen of this country has to deal with their bullsh*t. We're all victims of their segregation. Almost every city in this country has a side with mostly wealthy white people and a side with mixed race segregated people. Head on over to Toronto and you'll see what a country is like where there's less racism, yeah you have like enclaves of different races but you don't have anywhere near the oppressed ghettos that we have in our country. We're a sick country and we've been sick for a very long time.

Maybe you need to check out Atlanta which has schools like Morris Brown and Morehouse and Clark Atlanta ANNNNND then they have Georgia State and Georgia Tech. Are they segregated or do they just decided to go to whichever college they want to?
