“Doctor Sleep” continues the story of Danny Torrance, 40 years after his terrifying stay at the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson and newcomer Kyliegh Curran star in the supernatural thriller, directed by Mike Flanagan, from his own screenplay based upon the novel by Stephen King.
Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine.” Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.
Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before-at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.
“Doctor Sleep” stars Ewan McGregor (“Star Wars: Episodes I, II & III,” “T2 Trainspotting”) as Dan Torrance, Rebecca Ferguson (the “Mission: Impossible” films, “The Greatest Showman”) as Rose the Hat, and Kyliegh Curran, in her major feature film debut, as Abra. The main ensemble cast also includes Carl Lumbly, Zahn McClarnon, Emily Alyn Lind, Bruce Greenwood, Jocelin Donahue, Alex Essoe and Cliff Curtis.
Trevor Macy and Jon Berg produced the film, with Roy Lee, Scott Lumpkin, Akiva Goldsman and Kevin McCormick serving as executive producers.
Flanagan’s behind-the-scene creative team was led by director of photography Michael Fimognari (“The Haunting of Hill House”), production designers Maher Ahmad (“Get Hard”) and Elizabeth Boller (“Hush”), and costume designer Terry Anderson (“Den of Thieves”). The music score is composed by The Newton Brothers (“The Haunting of Hill House”).
Warner Bros. Pictures presents, An Intrepid Pictures/Vertigo Entertainment Production, A Mike Flanagan Film, “Doctor Sleep.” Slated for release in North America on November 8, 2019, and globally beginning on October 30, 2019, “Doctor Sleep” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
'Based on Stephen King's best selling novel'
All his damn novels are best sellers he's a freaking genius
Wiame Hekmi not really. Stephen King had no say or part in the original Shining. He didn't even like it. The remake of the Shining with Steven Weber. Now that movie was based on the book.
Also, it wasn't film at the Stanley Hotel. There wasn't ghost two ghost in hallway?
R1truth She’s not talking about the movie she’s talking about his books
Lil_ Scooby oh okay. Also, just giving alittle heads up.
R1truth dude everyone knows that
R1truth King is a genius whether or not you prefer the book or movie version of the Shining. There’s no doubt he’s a best selling author and there’s a reason why his books go to the big screen.

The fact that the director brought a bond between both Stephen King and Stanly Kubricks vision makes me appreciate this all the more. That long standing disappointment of Kings opinion on Kubricks work has always made me sad. I've read the books and seen the movies. They both were masters at their craft. And this brings it all together in a weirdly heartwarming way.
The Shining wouldn't make two nickels in today's market.

@@an-animal-lover 43 years went by. The Shining will always be regarded as a classic, but releasing it in today's market would have been like releasing a 1937-style horror movie in 1980. I'm not joking, this sequel was actually ON PAR with The Shining itself. It surprised the hell out of me given the stupid title. But it was super creepy and scary, the acting, scenes, and storyline were very good, and therefore I would highly recommend it. I still can't believe they actually managed to make not only a decent but an awesome sequel to the Masterpiece called The Shining. I might just watch it again soon.
I wish I could share your entusiasm to this movie. I really wanted to like this one but although it had some cool lore, I was constantly wishing Id watch the shining instead in the end. And this movie was WAY TOO LONG. I still had a bit of fun, but ultimately I was disappointed

Totally agree. Spot. On!
A horror cinematic universe from Stephen King's novels? Take my money please.
They already tried and failed miserably with dark tower. It could be so cool instead..
Haohmaru HL good point but some of the universe shouldnt be done. However a lot of it should be. And the gaps between them filled to show connections would be nice even if it’s not 100% as the words go on book. Dark tower wasn’t good.
The comic book movies are killers too and aren’t going 100% on the book either.
A KCU would be nice. Having penny wise as his human form when he was “ as the old lady’s daddy who came to America” we saw in part 2 show up on doctor sleep post credit scene would be devastating. Idk Danny shines and sees the clown makeup slip through the seemingly normal man. Maybe gets Danny to go to derry because third times the charm to lock him up and would be a total flip on book game changer.

The Shining novel is so different than the movie, both were good but they were very very different. Doctor Sleep is also a great book. Can't wait to see this film!
Well, yes, that's because Stephen King is such a dreadful, schlocky writer. Kubrick had to do something completely different in order to make a great film. If you actually follow the ridiculous plots in King's books it's almost impossible to make a good film. Apart from Shawshank.

The shining was subtle. It made you question what was real in the movie and what was in Jack's head. This made the movie incredibly disturbing. I really hope this movie lives up to that masterpiece.
Well going by the book which was very good and like all of his classics , he takes his time with the build up and back stories, once I Started reading it, I Couldn't put it down(like all the good ones!) and from what I've also read from early reviews, its good and lives up to the Shinning, is it as good as Kubricks? No! no one can make a film like him ,just ask Steven Spielberg! But it is a worthy followup!
Oof lol probably not
Mike Flanagan did the haunting of hill house. He knocked that one or of the park.

I read both The Shining and Doctor Sleep books. I was hoping for a Doctor Sleep movie where they make it seem like we got a true movie adaption of The Shining and this Doctor Sleep movie is a sequel to that since I prefer the actual novel along with the made-for-TV miniseries more than the Jack Nicholson movie. But from the two trailers, I"m liking what I'm seeing with the changes they made to the book to make it a sequel to the Jack Nicholson Shining. And hearing the theme to The Shining made me smile and it does work/is fitting, plus gets me even more excited for the Doctor Sleep movie. I still like the Jack Nicholson movie though. I just prefer the book and miniseries more. The book is pretty much some extended cut of the miniseries, although the miniseries has some changes too from the book. Especially the ending where we see Danny graduate from high school and Jack shows up in ghost form to congratulate him and let him know he's proud of Danny. That ending is not in the book. Plus Doctor Sleep (the book) picks up when Danny is still a kid. So the miniseries ending definitely is just miniseries exclusive.

But the movie is one of the most beloved horror movies ever, so they couldn't just forget all that. Loved the way they adapted the Dr Sleep story so it was a sequel to both the Shining book and the movie!
The fact that the overlook is still standing in this is really interesting. Might make for a cool final act.

This film was very good! It connected with the original so well and you can tell the director had a lot of respect and care in crafting this movie
The book, Doctor Sleep is soooo underrated. I Liked it almost much as The Shining. Guys, just so you know, this is a sequel to Stephen Kings “The Shining” Book, not to Kubrick's “The Shining” movie. I don’t think that’s bad though, even though Kubrick's version was insane and one of my favorite movies, Kings book version was just as good. Warner bros decision shows that they’re not trying to much to play off the hype for a sequel to Kubrick’s Shining and are actually going with what The King wants.
Well, that’s the thing... this movie is gonna be a sequel to both Kubrick's and King's The Shining. I mean, they show scenes from the Kubrick's movie and they even used the same soundtrack in the trailer.
It’s clearly a sequel to Kubrick’s film. It literally has scenes pulled directly from the movie not to mention the score and recreated shots as well as set pieces. I know it’s also a sequel to the book.. but dude, the film makers are clearly sending the message “Hey this is a direct sequel to The Shining”. That’s how the money will be made regardless of if it’s good or bad.
agree Dr. Sleep is one of my fave King books in the last 10 years. One of his most thrilling for sure.
The Overlook Hotel was burnt down in the book. This looks like a Doctor Sleep for Kubrick's The Shining.

Franklin NJ please specify which period of the walking dead, cause that show has a lot of up and downs in terms of quality
@@Sandban1 Zombie like villains who have been around for hundreds of years feeding off
by killing and taking the energy of "special people with a shining" like Danny and the girl Abra.
This movie is good, the original The Shining was and still is a masterpiece.
They are vampires not zombies😂😂
That makes the movie more of an action than a horror, right? It doesn't seem to have many jump scares...?
@@tomroose7733 Its pointless. What matters is that they are "undead", they didn't have fangs nor did they suck blood as "normal vampires'.
I hope this movie doesn't disappoint me
Ikr, the first one little bit disappoint me, cuz there are so many weird scenes that i can't explain
Be prepared.... the trailer looks dumb as hell.
Plain They made Abra black ugh
Stanley Kubrick made the Shining special. This trailer looks pretty average.
@@MiriahV23 Do you have some examples? I can't really think of any. I can tell you this much, I don't like when they change the race of any characters. If the character is white in the book I want that character to be white in the movie, if a character is black in the book I want the character to be black in the movie. It's a nerd thing, not a race thing. I want everything to be as close to the source material as it can be. That's what most people want when they complain about things like that. Just because you see racists everywhere, doesn't mean they are everywhere.
I was wondering why this movie was so hidden even tho it’s a Stephen King’s movie, it’s because it exposes a lot. Stay woke shit is crazy.
Exposes what?
Brian adrenochrome child sacrifice
Brian How the rich elites stay alive and immortal by scaring children until their blood produces adrenaline or adrenochrome and from that they drink that adrenaline from little children and it cures them and keeps them young. This was a conspiracy theory now this movie comes out basically doing the same thing. Really creepy for those who knew about it before hand.
"woke". I don't know how real it is, but imma have to @ Jared leto and Beyonce nonethless 🤧
@@SonOfGod3000 lol, you need to get out more.
Just watch this today it was phenomenal! Don’t care what people think they made this sequel perfectly from my perspective.
Well done!
CHOI MIN GI did they Reference IT at all throughout the movie?
So did I.
This movie is so underrated. Unexpected and intense.
Agreed, big time.
“What are you running away from?”
“Those horrifying movies about space”
You mean the star wars prequels that are the best? ;)
@@studiotefaen5655 oh not those, even though thats hot garbage but definetly not those
@@cribbycrabby7321 prequels >>> OT and ST combined :)
I just watched this today... I'm so glad I didn't see a single trailer before I saw the film.
Stephen King killing it this year.
He killed it Many years ago...
All these were ready books he published
Bruh
he is killing IT
They should have had Jack Nicholson come back and use CGI to make him look young and just say to Danny. "Welcome back son, we've been waiting for you."
Are you sure they didn't? Just wait.
If you know how the book ends ....
I love how they used the original theme
The visual and musical references from the Kubrick version of 'The Shinning' are the only interesting things in this trailer.
Anyone who likes the original Shining will probably be pleasantly surprised with this movie. Honestly it exceeded my expectations.
This movie was the best horror film I haven’t seen for so long. Jupm scare, negativitiy, creepiness, supernatural, monsters whatever you call it, it was all there. the nuance was just perfect
Warped Sounds I don’t know why but I can hear this comment as a teenage bully! Dude he likes the movie, so why are you upset? This movie is actually really great and it got 77% on rotten tomatoes!
Rahaf it’s okay. Dude’s got a lil penis. That’s why he easily gets upset at everything. Don’t mind them 😛
@Warped Sounds This movie doesn't rely on too much or too big jumpscares,it scares the audience by showing suffering and building tension which is why this is one of the best horror films I've watched. There's one scene where a boy gets ripped open by the True Knot which still gives me the creeps.
@Warped Sounds another bot🤷
@Warped Sounds Not trying to argue but to me the little to lack of gore is why this scene is so intense, you can only visualise the image by using the boy's pained scream as reference which itself already disturbs me.Moreover by factoring that such things already happened to many children irl, this scene takes a whole new fear than the whole movie.
The Cinematography is awesome!
Shikk hhi Lol half of it is Kubrick shots. They just re-did them.
But the acting is dreadful
Guy : “ What makes you come so far north , you running away from something “ Obi wan: North is where I have the higher ground
I honestly think this was one of the best King stories put to film. I really enjoyed this film.
"Hello there!"
I have done my duty, and can now rest.
Istg if this movie dissapoints me... It better not ruin the shining for me, that's my favorite movie of all time.
Meerianne but like... I read the book and the movie was already a disappointment to me lol
Meerianne same though, the shining is my absolute favorite movie and I am scared of seeing this movie in fear it will ruin Kubrick’s film for me ;-;
@@excusemewhattheheck_7570 I can see how the difference from book to movie disappointed you but also to to the viewer of the movie first we see the Kubrick adaptation as a masterpiece of its self.
@@excusemewhattheheck_7570 It's different to the book I know, but to me that movie is a masterpiece.
You said it dude. I'll go and watch it, but if my Shining juices are not satiated i will be a dull boy.
I was pleasantly surprised how great this movie is , highly recommended
I had no idea this movie even existed. I came across it about 2 yrs ago just channel surfing. Luckily I caught it from the very beginning, & I was glued to it! I'm a huge fan of Stephen King's "The Shining".... I thought Dr. Sleep was all around great! The production, direction, the cast, & they show us what "Shining" is all about.
Danny: wow I thought you were dead.
OVERLOOK HOTEL: my death was greatly exaggerating.
When someone asks you why your watching this trailer
Me: jedi business.
I wish Rose's hat was cocked at that gravity defying angle like in the books, it sounded so cool
Same.
Yeah. She looks kinda lame in this, not gonna lie.
@@lies1 Also, her hat should've had a velvety brim and been slightly taller also.
I was not prepared for a 3 hour of an intense and very interesting movie. This needs to be tv show because there can be more to this story.... much more.
Bruh. The Outsider. So good. Kings works do translate excellently over to season-long television format
Damn I’m sad we’re not gonna see jack nicholson in this :(
Skadzer, that's because this is the sequel which follows young Daniel Torrence into adulthood. He finds Abra who also has the "shining". And he must save her from being murdered by the True Knot, a group of subhuman beings that basically kill children and live off of their "shining" by torturing them. You must read the original book the Shining, then read Dr. Sleep. It's a really great book.
Aya's Reviews and toy colections was the book written by Stephen king. His movies and books have a very unique vibe.
Hopefully he'll at least get a cameo though
Because he died in the first movie
jrmetmoi no fucking shit

I was surprised how much I actually liked this movie

This movie is NOT what I expected. This was an absolutely amazing movie.
Rose the hat stole the show. She was outstanding
I love Rebecca Ferguson! Her character was AWESOME!
her big tits should get a supporting nod
@@energeez Aye, haha
The little girl did. Rose was just a villain.
Tearee Utley all the child actors were great tbh
What i like this movie is that they didnt make a remake of The Shining, but instead, they make a sequel of it despite the fact that it has been around almost 40 years!
syafiq swiftie no they just took the book Doctor Sleep and turned it into a movie
ya know...stephen king made a sequel himself. they were making a movie of the novel, doctor sleep. obviously, it does have elements of the movie too, though.
Doctor Sleep IS the second book after The Shining. He published Shining in the 80s and Doctor Sleep several years ago. Before Danny was about six and now he’s an adult. Nobody makes movies based on King novels unless King writes the book haha!
is this fucking sarcasm?
"Doctor Sleep, Sleep,
Calling Doctor Sleep,
Doctor Sleep, Doctor Sleep,
Wake up now!"
Glen Wang That was Aqua song, right?
ayipee yahiyoo ayipee yayeah
It seems this movie didn't get thorough marketing. It looks great
They should necromance Jack Nicholson back to life in this movie, so he can save the day and chop up all those vampires with an axe
Why ? is he dead ?
Art Arthur Oooh it was sooooo good!
I think that's what actually happens in the book
He's in the book for a second at the end. Like a sentence or two IIRC. Read it like 5 years ago.
yeah, he waves goodbye to dan and dan waves back crying
it's too bad Shelley Duvall is retired, she could still play Danny's mother
His mom is dead through almost the whole book. It's not necessary.
They couldn't find anyone ugly enough to take her place
@@fearnobeer9077 DON'T CALL SHELLEY DUVALL UGLY
Nah, Rebecca De Mornay played a better Danny’s mom.
@@mike197714 that's your opinion
Did anyone watching this movie notice that Abra's house number is 1980 (the year The Shining was released)? I thought it was a nice touch.
I just finished watching the movie....
Omg..... the 3hrs is sooo worth it
