Thanks for the overview. I have had the Silverlights for a year or so and they are going strong, both myself and my partner use them and no issues, no holes, they are so worth the price. I do wish they came in lighter colours but we wear them year round for day walks/ hikes and travelling.
I'm wearing a pair of Time May Tell Merino wool socks at this moment. I've hiked in them and haven't noticed any issues. I have a couple Darn Tough socks, but not the Merino wool ones. I'll get a Merino wool socks from Darn Tough to see how good they actually are. Good info!
Very good quality content, keep up the good work, i think you will get more subscribers and even if you didn't it is such great quality for people to learn from. Well done!!
Hi! Nice to see such a detailed overview. Pls make one for underwear or pants, if you can. Sadly I'm jusf z beginner into hiking, but socks issue so far was easy to solve - I just kept rotating my socks on each smallest stop - one pair outside backpack to dry, dry ones on my feet. But the thighs were itching and then aching on 3rd day of my hike - my underwear was rubbing on my legs as I'm not as skinny.
Great video! I use injini toe sock liners under my darn toughs. My issue is my pinky toe is smashed against the other causing friction. So I pre tape that problem spot and it seems to help a lot.
hi Oscar ! Yes i have the danish , some models are great and some are really cheap ! The best are for me the darn tough Midweight Hiking Sock . Thanks for this video , very interresting ( and sorry for my bad english )🙂
I wasn’t sure exactly what you meant around 4:20 saying only Omniwool and Kirkland follow the “same” composition… same as who? Each other? The expensive Silverlight?
I've bought the Kirkland wool socks for $2-$3 a pair at the end of winter. They make good gifts and I think they would make a good option for handing out to homeless people.
I learned lots i didn’t know about merino sock types and brands. it’s kinda like cashmere for feet, heh. Nice seeing each sock on foot (foot lovers rejoice 😅). Very informative great vid.
I don't know if Wiggle post to mainland Europe, but here in the UK they have a lot of darn tough socks at a very reduced price. I paid about £13.50 ($17) each for two pairs with free delivery back in their November sales.
I binned the contents of my sock drawer about 3 years ago and bought 6 pairs of Darn Tough socks for daily use, 3 for 2 deal total spend £104. In 3 years the socks have increased to £32 each. Super comfy, almost no wear. I don't expect to buy any more socks for at least 10 years. A little disappointed that the Warranty is pretty much worthless outside of USA is the only downside.
Which are best minimal mosquito/bug bite (prevention) ones.. as well as the regular clothing to prevent / minimal bites (sleeping/walking) and all around etc
I use Danish Endurance hiking socks for autumn-spring Mountain biking. I believe they function much better wicking function than anything on the mountain bike sock market have to offer. They’ve lasted 3 seasons too. That’s putting a lot more rough Kilometers than I do hiking. They should really sell them as mountain biking socks. Their cycling socks are not that good unfortunately 🤷🏻
You missed out on evaluating Smartwool merino wools. THats the competition to Darn tough and is slightly cheaper so would have loved to see how it performs against DT
I got a $30 pair of smart socks and a $9 pair (Mark's) on the same day same place. I wore one of each for a couple days switching feet etc... I honestly couldn't tell the difference. I went back to the store & bought the last 4 pair of the $9.... it has been about a month that i have been wearing them.... they are all holding up great. Also the cheap ones have 4% more wool - 66 vs 70.... less expensive isn't necessarily a bad thing. Ballston is another less expensive great product....
I need these not for running but for my condition chilbains. I need them for thermal regulation, do not want too much compression. Otherwise in the cold weather and me being underweight my toes get purple and swell from not circulating properly. Hoping to get some good ones. If anyone has tips let me know. Doctor said I need some merino wool socks. I only have cotton and polyester or spandex socks.
Good review, but 4 of the models you reviewed have 0% wool (Merino, or otherwise): Dickies - Dri-Tech Columbia - Crew Fox River - Alturas Liner Socks Fox River - Military Socks
All you need to do is make sure your boots and/or shoes are big enough and buy any socks you want. I wore them in construction for years and never had the first blister.
I want to order one pair of Darn Tough, though I'm not sure you'd still benefit since your link refers to a particular seller (Dearborn) for Large size. Changing to Medium will switch to another seller.
Great video I watched your video and went and bought socks that at 82% merino wool and it's like I have new feet no more sweaty smelly feet and no more itchy feet and now my feet look normal
Personally, I wash them every 2-4 days when thru-hiking. The longer you hike with them, the stiffer they get and I could feel my feet getting a bit more sore from that.
That shit is meant for people who have too much money to know what to do with. At least with merino wool, I'm not gonna cry when they lose my luggage from the airport.
I agree that they are getting pretty darn expensive... I paid 102.26 EUR in total with express shipping for 2x crew and 2x ankle pairs 2 years ago. Now the same order would cost 155.80 EUR. But then again, everything costs more nowadays. As someone who also does Ecommerce (trailgoals.com) it's sad to see the prices of our costs go up and up every few months, which also requires us to raise the costs to stay profitable... :( But at least I can vouch for them lasting a long time - me and my GF are still mostly hiking with our Silverlight's even after 2 years. Still no holes and no blisters.
Actually I've found some brands that were cheaper that out did the expensive brands by far...Danish endurance ..wouldn't buy them again don't fit very well too tight...other brands etc.. too tight ..not shaped well
Darn Tough socks are also made in the USA. If you live in the US, buy made in USA as often as you can. It really matters. The more we buy here, the more jobs we have here. Always try to buy local if you can. Imagine if 10% of what you buy is from your country. A 10% increase in GDP would pay off a national debt
Wait until you learn to knit your own socks like haveing one strand mohair and one strand merino or alpacka. You have no idea how it is to have socks exactly as you want from animals you know have a good life. Also if wool is itchy or not is alot more complicated than that. Silver is not envirmentaly friendly in socks and if you air out socks when you sleep its not needed. Have other socks for sleeping.
I just purchased two pair of the "GoWith" alpaca socks: "GoWith Alpaca Wool Low-Cut Hiking Socks" They claim these come with a "Lifetime guarantee." Hmm...? I searched & searched trying to find some decent socks, it isn't easy these days!
Wow, what a great channel. I appreciate the way you address topics simply and efficiently. Will definitely be following along! Cheers from USA!

great, thanks for the recommendation. I've never had hiking socks before. Been using regular only, but it's time get them finally
Good info!
100% gold, thank you very much for this, I was looking for a review in skiing socks but this was already very usefull.
It's so nice to see you back again!!! yeahhhh
Kirlland woolblend socks are amazing never had a problem have wanted some darn tough socks for a while though

You need wider shoes then don't you.

Thank you for this video, Oscar. This is a very informative video with solid information.
I wasn’t sure exactly what you meant around 4:20 saying only Omniwool and Kirkland follow the “same” composition… same as who? Each other? The expensive Silverlight?
double layer always, a very thin tight sock inside and then wool socks. no blisters
*A wool sock over a tight silk sock eliminates friction on your feet entirely by making the silk sock essentially a second skin layer.
I was about to comment the same thing. I've never had issues with blisters when doubling up on socks. It is also a bit warmer in the winter.
Where do you find silk sock liners?
Excellent video! Ordering the dainish socks now
Bro - no smartwools???
I've bought the Kirkland wool socks for $2-$3 a pair at the end of winter. They make good gifts and I think they would make a good option for handing out to homeless people.
People without a house deserve shittier socks than people with homes? The Fuck

very informative videe my guy! appreciate the time you took to make this bad boy video

Aww thats a very good deal, sadly wiggle does not sell nor posto to mainland europe anymore. I really loved their DHB cycling shorts 😢
definitely a great video. very insightful to learn.
Also worth mentioning Darn Tough’s lifetime guarantee. If you wear a hole in them, for example, they will replace your pair free of charge.
Doesn't apply in the UK
I just purchased my first pair of Darn Tough socks the other day. So far, so good. They are really nice, as they should be.
tod oims socks ia the best socks for me
How you wash them is a good topic...

A little disappointed that the Warranty is pretty much worthless outside of USA is the only downside.
Their UK website suggests the warranty is unaffected here
Merci pour vos bons conseils.

Hello Oscar
What is your experience with Icebreaker marino wool socks?
Any special advice for washing them to make them more durable?
Thanks Óscar 👍

God bless!

Should you add a link to the Silverlight listing in your affiliate links? Great video - thank you.
3:15 you just described goruck socks
Well done. Big help, thx.
Glad it helped!
i own the danish endurance merino socks and they have worn out really quickly despite the careful maintance from me. I wouldn't recommend these socks
I bought some redwing merino wool socks my question is, do you have to wash them after every use or can you use like 2 or 3 times be for wash???
Personally, I wash them every 2-4 days when thru-hiking. The longer you hike with them, the stiffer they get and I could feel my feet getting a bit more sore from that.
Another point to add is don’t put them in a dryer. But I agree 3-4 days allowing them to dry overnight.
Wait until you find alpaca wool 💸
Hard to find manufacturers that actually use it 😂
Yea alpaca wool is better then Marino wool but there's no company that has a better warranty than darn tough

"GoWith" alpaca socks claims a "Lifetime" guarantee...(?)

Silverlight is 35€ after your discount coupon, that's really too much for a pair of socks indeed

@@OscarHikes How thin are they? Can we wear them with smart-casual shoes (dr martens) Cheers
P.S.
I've never been able to wear the Darn Tough socks as I have wide feet.
Almost impossible for me to wrestle the damn things on...
