  • macmost.com/e-2840 If you want to share a photo from your Photos Library or a file on your iPhone or iPad, you can use this Shortcut to resize it and convert it first. A very simple Shortcut can be used to do it for one photo, and a slightly more complex one can do it for multiple photos.
    See the post at macmost.com/e-2840 for images of each Shortcut and a download link.

    If you are doing large amounts of photos you have to go to the settings and scroll down to the shortcuts setting and change it to allow you to share large files or you will get a message not allowing it.

    Any way to resize for a desired print size? For example, I want to print a CD cover but it prints bigger than an entire Letter-sized page. A standard CD cover is 120x120mm but the pixels to achieve this size would obviously depend on the DPI of the image and printer. If I could specify the print size as 120mm regardless then I’d be all set.

    Great learning lesson on creating short cuts! I did have to sloooow down your rate of speech and that worked out great. It felt kinda like programming in old BASIC. Assembly is what I love most, but after a couple days I got it.

    That was epic thank you! Any ideas on the best way for me to share the resized pics to my iPad. So I don’t sync apples photo album across my devices at all because I don’t want my personal photos on my work stuff (laptop; iPad). But it would be epic if, when I go to a building site and take like 300 photos (always on phone), if a resized version of only those photos could make it onto my iPad where I’m making notes scribbling on the building plan. The iPad has a sim but sometimes signal is dodgy so I dunno if I could make a temporary Wi-Fi type network between just the two devices. Like I don’t need a backup on iCloud till after I get home or to the hotel. But like sending 300 photos over airdrop in one go is also going to end in tears (though I haven’t tried with resized). Like it would be nice if I had a way to say ok from now till when I hit stop save all folders to a specific folder or album, resize them and immediately sync them to the iPad. I’m asking too much I know but a girl can dream haha

    Thanks for providing an updated version for iOS 16 of one of my most used shortcut.
    However, 2 bigs caveats that I tried to fix myself, but was not proficient enough with Shortcut to properly do it:
    #1 Resize will occur as well if image is smaller that the requested size. Therefore the image will be upscaled and I don’t want that, if smaller I just want to go to the JPG compression and Metadata removal.
    #2 I would prefer to use “longest measurement” (height or width) rather than width so output is consistent in maximum size (portrait / landscape).

    If you are on an ipad, the instructions to change the icon for your new shortcut, are a little different. (At 2:58 in this video)
    After creating the shortcut and going back into edit the short cut, you wont find a drop down arrow beside the shortcut name. But instead you can click on the default icon for the shortcut you just made and that will open up the options you need and you can then follow the rest of the instructions

    Can I ask a question because I am going stir crazy searching the internet: in iPadOS, does double tapping the image zoom in to 100% (1:1) so that the image is shown pixel per pixel at the screen resolution? And If I want to view the image at the resolution I might be printing at (eg 200ppi), how can I adjust the zoom to show this? I am not sure what the iPad does when zooming in at greater than 1:1, does it interpolate the image? Also, zoom pinching maxes out, (cannot zoom infinitely), at what zoom level is this? Thanks

    • @macmost

      You would just have to manually delete it. But reducing the size of individual photos is a bad way to save space. You'll regret the loss in quality of your photos of friends, family, events and such at some point in the future.

    Great video! The issue I'm having is that ordinary/everyday photos are about 3MB per photo - its all chewing into cloud storage on Google Photos. I have the appropriate settings on my iPhone as well as Google Photos to keep file sizes to as optimum as possible however its still a lot. E.g. a photo of an item on my desk should easily be under 1MB. Any work arounds for this?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  11 месяцев назад

      I wouldn't use this to reduce the quality of your actual photos. I would store them in their current state. 3MB per photo is fine. Those are your originals, after all. I'd only use this if you need to reduce the size to make a copy to upload to a service or use in a document.

      This converts to JPEG in the Shortcut. So it should work for RAW, converting it to a JPEG for you as well as resizing.

      Yes for some reason after setting up multiple times following your instruction and downloading the file it does complete the shortcut on raw images. But it does on non raw.

    Great video. I wanbt a photo that ends up 667 kb or less. What parameters do I put in the resize?

      You’ll have to try different sizes to see. Compression is different depending on the content of the photo.

    On iPad so looks a little diff. This is so fast I cannot even keep up on slower play speeds 😭
    Taking a half breath between steps would be tremendous helpful.

    Hello, Is it possible to make this shortcut a liitle more complex so that it will ask for each time the type of converted file like jpeg/png/pdf but if multiple photos are selected then it will only ask for the file type once, not for each photos individually? Your help will be much appreciated Sir.

      @macmost  Год назад

      Yes, but I think you'll need to ask manually with a question and choice, then use an IF action in the loop to choose from different export actions depending on which one was selected.

    I just want to take and save all pictures in a lower res in the first place but my SE doesn't seem to be able to do that which is really dumb!
