We're happy to hear that this project has reached many students! We wish you all the best of luck in your journey. Remember, getting in is NOT the end all be all, even if it may feel that way sometimes. You'll do amazing things no matter where you go. Something that may help students that are nearing the test date is that doing exceptionally well on one section gets a better scaled score than doing pretty good on both sections, even if the raw score is equivalent. As always, feel free to drop any questions. Also, any suggestions for future videos. Again, good luck!
6:07 Tips for the SHSAT: 1- Start preparing over a year ahead of time 2- Get private tutoring 3- Use prep books 4- have a family in the tutoring business is a bonus 😂 In short, it is important to plan, prepare, and invest in your child's education early on.
Y'all thank you so much for the confidence. I've been spending the past week stressing about the SHSAT and even had a nightmare at one point. I have the exam on the 17th of November, Thursday 2022.
same! I keep coming back to this video to help me lol. I'm sure you'll do amazing so try not to worry as much, and besides, the score of one test won't determine your entire future :) like the top comment from StuyInterviews says, "You'll do amazing things no matter where you go." So try to make sure you know all the material, and take some time to relax as well. You deserve it. Good luck!
Genuinely, you are so capable; good luck :D PLEASE don't stress too much even though it's easier said than done (been there, done that!) but remember stressing doesn't improve your score, even more so, it's detrimental. As KFC said below, you have amazing things coming your way, no matter where you end up!
I have a few questions for the SHSAT since Im taking it in a few months: 1. What scores should I be getting before I take the test? What SHSAT score calculator should I use since I feel like some are different than others. 2. What are some tips to get better at the reading section? 3. What is your overall opinion on Stuyvesant? 4. How much should I be studying ever day?
Study is a great school I have a sis that goes there, the work is difficult and I’ll admit she has stayed up past 12 many times for projects or studying so don’t go unless you are prepared for a heavy workload. I’m taking the test myself this year and I’m aiming for stuy as well, my score for Ela ranges from 50 to 30 but my main advice is to jot down as you read, for example main ideas, theme, important facts, and morals
currently a 7th grader and im studying because my top pick for highschool is stuy and i reallyyy wanna get in. my average score is around 610 (on practice tests) but im nervous, because when it comes down to it, my score depends on the scores everyone else gets, and how high or low they score. if anyone who got into stuy this year could share some tips i'd appreciate that sm!!
As someone who took the test last year and got into Stuy, consistently having mock scores of above the cutoff is a good sign! but it all comes down to stress in the end. Make sure your mind is clear and you'll be fine. I'm sure you'll do amazing :))
I’m ur 80th sub. I’m from the center school which is a middle school and I really want to go to Stuyvesant. It’s a 36 minute train ride if I take the 1 or 2 would be 26. But I’m in 7th grade rn.
hi, does a 50ish (ela) in your strong point and a 40 in your weak (math) sound stuyvesant worthy? i've been studying hard but i just cant seem to get better at math and my parents might kill me if i fail miserably lol and the practice test scores i take put me in 590-600 ish but a lot of people said it depends on where you take the test on so my score may not be accurate so im lowkey kind of worried haha.
depends on how strong your ela section is on test day, if you get in the ranges of 53-57, i think a mid 40s in math would be fine for stuy, but if your averaging a 50-53 in ela, i would go for a 44-47 in the math section. hope this helps
If your scaled score is typically in the 590-600 range, you're safe! The Stuyvesant cutoff is around 565 so you're solid for every school as Stuyvesant has the highest cutoff.
my name is emmi and this vid inspired me to actually take the shsat test im in 8th and i really want to get into bronx science and stuyvesent is my second choice!
Hi! I have a few questions! I am a student who will enter 11th grade next school year. Is it ok for me to take the SHSAT, or is it too late? Also, must you take the test in fall, or can you take it in summer? Thank you in advance!
my top score was 51 math 52 ela (i got this today) and idk if this is enough im scared because even tho the website says this is 595 idk if i can do as good on the real exam gl everyone
you want to try to get as near to perfect as possible, obviously. but it's better to do really well in one section than to do pretty okay in both because of the scale. if you're near the test date, hone in on your better section and perfect the score from here on out. you need roughly an 85% accuracy rate on the overall test, from what I remember, to secure your spot.
Do NOT go to Stuyvesant! It’s insanely stressful and not worth it. You’ll get into a better college by NOT going there. The exact same classes you take at any other school a way harder at Stuy. You studying for a test for hours and hours and you will be greeted by a test with stuff not taught or designed in other ways to squeeze out as many Bs as possible. You like being with friends? Well you can but that time has to be scheduled into their clubs. Designing you test studying precariously around those. You think your smart right? You are but from one day the test you and put all the highest IQers and I mean super high, on a different track at the school immediately. Your smart but struggle to be in this type of environment? Then you have to do twice as much work to get into colleges would easily get into if you went elsewhere because you need to add internships and things to make up for not being in the science and math Olympiad class during the school day. You are your own there. You get some help from one guy there for 800. Many here suffer from anxiety and have mental health problems un addressed. There is a bizarre culture of silence on all of this. People will say their kid is doing great! But go ahead and find out but the worst part is your trapped there. To move to another school is nearly impossible!
Exactly the score for it is too High all for it to be mediocre Bronx Science is way better because they have many awards and they send kids to ivy leagues the most plus there are better opportunities
