Basically she will continue to pass this apartment down in her family unless the building is sold and turned into coops. Nice video but this is not what 1300 gets you in nYc unless your grandparents and parents have lived in the same building since before the 70s.
No, she can't pass it down to her children. It is a rent stabilized apartment not controlled. She would have paid "key money" to the management to take over the lease.

They actually mention it on the show. I can't remember which episode or who said but it was something like "and thanks to rent control, [this place] is a steal". Someone who knows the show better could probably find the exact quote.

You can't believe gorgeous prewar apartments exist in nyc? They're literally in every boro lol. Before gentrification they weren't consider a big deal. I live in one which was turned into a coop but got it right before housing boom in '08. *As a 4th generation NYer I love it!*

This is what I think of when I think of New York City apartments. It has history and soul. I like the gratitude that she has about her home and feeling fortunate that she is able to live in the beautiful space that was her parents history as well as her own. The desk that she inherited is so sweet. She has put a lot of work into her space with the interiors (bringing the pocket doors back to life) and refurbishing treasured finds (the entry mirror, back of the front door and her dresser). I think sticky tiles are fine for the fireplaces until she decides what to do with the original tiles.
nothing i love more than a beautiful old apartment with intact original character from the hard wood floors to the mouldings. And also her decorating style does the place justice, incredible. (plus how lucky with the rent price of that place!)

After my grandparents died me, my daughter and mother moved in the 3 bedroom 3 full bathroom living room dining room and foyer a lot of closets pantry etc etc etc and we’re only paying $1,2500. We had to go through succession rights as natural children and grandchildren paperwork. But it’s a big apartment and we was not letting it go Lol my birth certificate has this address on it. My grandparent had this apartment for about 50 yrs before they died. But yup so glad it was passed down to us! Ok so we don’t have a butlers pantry or fireplaces which is awesome we just have a pantry closet! But yes very blessed ours is also rent stabilized.

This is a huge Upper West Side Apt! I don’t know when this video was filmed. But as of 2022, it is not even possible to get a 250 sq foot studio apt with a kitchen and bathroom for less than $2,000! She is extremely lucky to have the family connection to this large rent-stabilized apt in such an upscale neighborhood in NYC. She has done a beautiful job decorating it!
Love the story about your desk. I lost my brother n law to suicide in June 2020, then my dad to Dementia 23 days later. I wholeheartedly believe our loved ones are all around us. That desk is a magical reminder of your family friend, May she Rest In Peace.
I moved to the UWS in 1990, and even back then you could barely find a studio for $1K, much less a 1 or 2 bedroom, so she's incredibly fortunate her parents kept the apartment for her. The cement grey walls in the entry are the only "miss" for me in this lovely, old school NYC apartment. It's wonderful how she opened the unit back up by getting rid of the faux walls hiding the pocket door.

I love it 💖 That perfect combination of tradition and freshness makes this an inviting and liveable home. For me personally, the entrance is too dark and flat. I love the framed art work in that area but feel if it had been hung closer together, each piece would have worked better, collectively. But oh! Everything is such a delight and it is obvious that a lot of love, thought and creativity went into creating this haven 😍

Hattie, I love your UWS NY Apt. Your eye for respect + love for the vintage leads to impeccable interior design. wOw! I want to sit in and soak up every room. You are motivated and you were brave to start out testing the waters on public platforms. I have a 1670sqft home I bought in 2010, when realestate prices were relatively low, in a CT historical seafaring town; I got lucky. It's nothing I would be able to afford now. Embarrassingly then and now, I am forever perplexed on how to put rooms together like what you have done. My parents have passed and I saved/am saving items from their home in NJ. I have not a clue on how to get them to fit into my home, although I can't see myself getting rid of a 200 year old china cabinet that was my Mother's mothers and 60 or so oil paintings from my father who was a known historical painter in the town in which I grew up. I also schlepped a bed and desk he had crafted when I was a teen. He was oil painter + master carpenter. I think one either has design sense or not at all. I'm afraid I've fallen into the latter. I loved seeing your before pictures. It reveals motivation and your keen eye on design. I'm sure you poured many, many hours and tears into restoring some of the pieces you have acquired. I believe, also, that your success as an infulencer has much to do not only with your design sense, but your humble nature which comes out clearly in your You Tube vid. Amazing Apt. Love it!

Really gorgeous apartment and I love the history. The only drawback for me is the tiny bath and kitchen but that's what they built in 1890. I had a 1920 house that I loved but don't think I could go back to lack of closets and my one tiny bathroom.

Hattie, I love your UWS NY Apt. Your eye for respect + love for the vintage leads to impeccable interior design. wOw! I want to sit in and soak up every room. You are motivated and you were brave to start out testing the waters on public platforms. I have a 1670sqft home I bought in 2010, when realestate prices were relatively low, in a CT historical seafaring town; I got lucky. It's nothing I would be able to afford now. Embarrassingly then and now, I am forever perplexed on how to put rooms together like what you have done. My parents have passed and I saved/am saving items from their home in NJ. I have not a clue on how to get them to fit into my home, although I can't see myself getting rid of a 200 year old china cabinet that was my Mother's mothers and 60 or so oil paintings from my father who was a known historical painter in the town in which I grew up. I also schlepped a bed and desk he had crafted when I was a teen. He was oil painter + master carpenter. I think one either has design sense or not at all. I'm afraid I've fallen into the latter. I loved seeing your before pictures. It reveals motivation and your keen eye on design. I'm sure you poured many, many hours and tears into restoring some of the pieces you have acquired. I believe, also, that your success as an infulencer has much to do not only with your design sense, but your humble nature which comes out clearly in your You Tube vid. Amazing Apt. Love it!

Really gorgeous apartment and I love the history. The only drawback for me is the tiny bath and kitchen but that's what they built in 1890. I had a 1920 house that I loved but don't think I could go back to lack of closets and my one tiny bathroom.
I do love your apt.... everything! In particular; I love the dark blues, greens, and grey juxtaposed against the white colors....the painitings, etc
