    I loved The Late Late Show so much. Kilborn was great. I enjoyed his enthusiasm, playfulness and the vain character.

    I thought Craig was great. I must be in the minority. I hear some of the hosts kind of bashing him and frankly I think Craig has some class that these hosts can’t even fake.

    His Late Late Show was the stuff man! He had so many cool bits. But his interviews with Dana Delaney. Wow she liked him. But his role in Old School is perfect. Hey it’s guy code….

    I don't know if the reason he gives is the real one. I always thought he left the Late Late Show because of a contract dispute or because the success of Old School went to his head and he thought he could do films.
    But if he is in fact telling the truth, he's not wrong about the political/social commentary direction late night was going in. The Daily Show had already transformed into that once Stewart replaced him. And when Kilborn left CBS, it was during the Bush Presidency and a year and a half into the Iraq War and Letterman started to get a lot more political and it got even worse in the Obama and Trump eras with Colbert, Kimmel, and Meyers. So I can understand if he wanted nothing to do with that kind of talk show.

    if you want to see Craig Kilborn host a talk show for a couple of episodes from 2014ish...he stepped in for Artie Lange when Artie had his show on the audience Network with John Ritchie. he did an awesome job and it was his first talk show type thing he's done since he left his show...so it's a great watch!!! peace and happy holidays all!!!

    Despite his enormous talent, I don't think Kilborn ever cared enough for fame or what other people were doing (movies, TV, modelling, news, etc.). That caught up with him. I think he just got tired of living someone else's life and was never really cut out for being a center-of-attention promoter in the first place. Such a cool career, albeit short.

      It takes more than talent to do something for a long haul. I think he saw through the bullshit of fame and drudgery so once he earned enough he quit. I would have done the same, I think it’s very rare to see people not addicted to fame and fortune in showbiz.

      Absolutely. The weirdly hyper political liberal culture in the entertainment scene was emerging even then, although at that time, it was more behind the scenes. I think Craig def saw what abomination was in the oven.

      Some people want to quit a job, but would consider doing it longer if paid more... So maybe they do get that raise.
      Eventually the desire to leave outweighs the paycheck, at any number.

      Nah, he's been retired for 15 years and still living like a King. Money was never his object. I remember Letterman was pissed that he had no way to entice him. But the guy just didn't want to do it anymore.

    I LOVED his show...I loved NBC Letterman growing up and Johnny was around then too but this guy's show... I can see how the routine could get boring but he was so effortless at it. It's like wrestling right - I didn't know too many people who's fav wrestler WAS Hulk Hogan. He was the man and on his own level so the rest of the roster was where YOUR guy was. So I loved NBC Dave but Kilborn and Kinnear were like my Roddy Piper and Brutus 'the Barber' lol ;) I was so bummed when his show left.

    What I heard was they offered him the same salary as before. He was willing to stay, but wanted more money. They didn't budge. He said, if you're not paying me more, I'm not going to renew. And that was it, he left..

    just decided to google Kilby tonight to see what he was up to. Huge respect for him. Letterman was funny during the nbc years, but transitioned into a bitter old political crank during the cbs years. I totally believe Kilby that he was just tired of it, the political stuff didn't interest him. Kilby didn't sell out and become annoying. His IG is hilarious.

      More political, yeah - definitely. Can't agree with the bitter crank part. Absolutely he was funniest in the NBC years, and he was actually MORE sardonic then; and when he moved to the CBS set the show lost some of its intimacy. Personality-wise he eventually leveled and mellowed and became not quite as interesting, but still good.

      @Bruce S There is a reason why has had next to no work in the last 15 years. I remember on his last episode, he said he wanted to be a producer yet you wont find ONE credit in his name since The Kilborn File in 2010. That show, by the way, failed immensely.

      @@big_dro1713 His “wanting to be a producer” was something of an inside joke; He’d referenced it multiple times throughout the show’s run, tracing back to an earlier episode where he interviewed one o’ the great Hollywood film producers of all time Robert Evans. You’re right about The Kilborn File, though-wasn’t a great concept.

    Killborn was by far my favorite talkshow hosts. I mean he was really in my cords of what I like as far as being charming, classy, deadpan humour. Had chemistry with his female guests without being creepy. No political crap. He was perfect. I would have made him the natural successor to Johnny. I was shocked when he left. And the reason for it is even more frustrating, he was bored. lol I guess all the good ones were too good, the networks had no choices but to replace them with the crumbs, a pletora of abomination like Kimmel, Colbert, Fallon, Meyers and that British guy.

    Funny he says he preferred the Late Late Show to the Daily Show because I thought he was way funnier doing the half-hour show. He is good at smartass comments, but he is not a great interviewer and his guests on the Late Late Show did not have a lot of intereresting things to say.

    I found it interesting that both Craig’s left the show for pretty much same reason 🤨
    And he’s got a point… the shows now try too hard to be news shows… and sometimes propaganda shows quite honestly cause I now have a totally different view of Donald now that I’ve seen him not in way the media wants him portrayed 🤓

    I have respect for him that he left on his own terms instead of doing a job and mailing it in... Ironically, what he will be known for is that both times he got replaced by better hosts (Stewart and Ferguson)

    His issue was his expectations and direction, did okay shows but never managed to keep up with the times.
    Comparing himself to Carson who worked late night for 30 years, this dude hasn't done late night in 15. If he went out tomorrow his ratings would tank,

      He's not "comparing himself to Carson"- that was his inspiration. I think that was the problem, though. Kilborn realized after-the-fact that he only idolized Carson, not that he actually wanted to *be him. Going out there night-in night-out promoting other people's projects takes a toll. It's not for everyone.

      Cole Steele the first host of The Late Late Show was Tom Snyder, but Craig Killborn was the first to bring comedy to the show. Snyder wasn’t funny and his version of the show was forgettable and boring most nights.

    Craig had a very peculiar, ironic sense of humor. You really had to "get" it, and if you didn't you weren't part of the club. Everything he did in which he acted like a narcissistic jerk was just an act. He was playing a character.
    I can understand why that might not have gotten him great ratings because a lot of people didn't get it.

      I'm sure the "sexist' comments didn't help him much, as far as The Daily Show or elsewhere. I put that in quotations because I don't even really remember what the comments were exactly to be able to brand them as such. I just know they caused mild controversy.

      I'm a diehard Kilby fan from the ESPN days and especially TDS which I think was his best, even better than Stewart's, but Craig Ferguson took the Late Late Show to a whole other level. Ferguson is easily the greatest late night talk show host ever and his show was amazing.

    When he did The Daily Show dude had no soul. Like it was so dry and boring. Not great for a comedy news show. Only saving grace of the first 3 years of the show was the celeb interviews.

      His sarcastic, mocking style somehow worked well when he delivered SportsCenter highlights, but not at all when he was a talk show host. Hosts have to be relatable and find a way show off their human side every once in a while, but he always came across as mocking and superior when interviewing guests.

But in the social media everything is about me society in which we live. He left the spotlight being completely ok by it. In today's society, people are so caught up with their own ego they have to post on social media their whereabouts ten times an hour to look important. LOL

    God, he’s boring. I feel like I just took a fast-acting Ambien. Producer Peter Lassally said he wanted a raise, they refused because he wasn’t worth it, he quit and no has heard from him since, except for this riveting interview.
