I haven’t tried Mary’s mini but I’m doing the 50/50 plate. I stalled out on losing weight so I cut back on fruit to one serving per day which got me back to shedding around two pounds per week (which I’m happy with). I love fruit but it has a lot of calories compared to vegetables and starches.
@@joanavicente5493ok great!! I figured out I need atleast one pound of broccoli with potatoes to have satiety so I will try another mini practice with that amount.

Funny thing with the Mary’s mini. I feel like I’m over potatoes for a week after then I crave them again. I do need to eat fruit though. I don’t have sweet tooth but salt. I love salt.
Thanks for putting up this video. I listened to the McDougall book on extreme weight loss and jumped into veganism months ago but have made up my own menu, healthier for the effort but not lighter. I needed to see and hear what someone like you are eating and this is good. Of course, I need to spend the time and read into the "manual" that came with the audio book and get serious about dropping the weight.
Interested to give this a try after a lavish Christmas and overseas travel eating out a lot. Very helpful video :) in terms of not overeating but making sure you're full and satisfied, how many potatoes do you eat per meal?
I ran into you accidentally and found you to be very refreshing and the video on Mary’s Mini I think that’s exactly what I need to do. I have struggled after I’ve gained weight to get the weight off now so thank you so much.
I eat a plant based diet and I eat a lot! Probably too much but thankfully I don’t gain weight easily. I’m not sure I could do this challenge😂 Good for you and thanks for the tips!
I must confess, I have never made it past day two on Mary's mini. You have inspired me to try again. At 63, it is nearly impossible to shed a single pound plus, I have a nasty habit of trying every single new vegan fake food product on the market to prove to my meat eating friends how easy it is to go plant-based. Pffffffffffffft duh. Love your channel. Thank you!
I am going on 67 and I know what you are saying. It has been 2 months since this video. Were you able to stick it out for more than 2 days? I am going to try the challenge.
@@dianepropson2508 lol.......no. In fact, I didn't make it through the day...twice. I am going to try rice instead of potatoes next time. I lost my willpower somewhere along the way. Good luck to you! Please, let me know how you do!
@@vegantattoo7292 Thanks for responding. I thought I would give it a whirl yesterday and I didn't make it through the day either. I think it is all in my head that I will feel deprived or hungry. I know it is only 10 days but heck, I can't make it through it one. I think I must get a better head-space to set myself up for it.
I watched your video on the word of wisdom and enjoyed it, and just stumbled across your second channel. I don’t plan on being vegan ever but to eat vegan a few days of the week with eggs and fish most other days and meat sparingly. A question, how does the Mcdougal diet compare to the daily dozen from Dr Greger? Greger says to eat legumes 3 times a day (protein), mcdougal doesn’t seem to be big on legumes, he says no more than a cup. Would the Mcdougal diet be too low on protein? Especially when restricting calories? People say as long as you eat enough calories, you’ll get enough protein from plants, but what if you’re lowering your calories? Legumes become very important in a diet extremely low in animal foods.
Me too!! The goal is to stick with the same starch so it becomes monotonous, from having the same things over and over again. The reason the McDougalls say that is because we tend to over eat when there is a variety. Having said all that though! I do know people who will eat different kinds of potatoes to keep things interesting and have some variety! So really, it's up to you!
I think it's easier in the microwave. I slice them paper thin, put them in a single layer, and watch closely as they cook. When I tried ithem in the air-fryer, they flew around, got stuck in the fan, and burned quickly.
I don’t know about vegetables in morning. How many meals are recommended? I could eat vegetables if it’s later say 11 like intermittent fasting with 2 meals.
Just the one kind of starch. Part of why it works is that it is nutritious but BORING, so you eat less. More likely you will stop eating when you are full and not keep going.
I’m confused. I just watched a video of Mary talking about her mini. It is much stricter than this and she mentioned that the “updated versions” are not the same, not hers. So who updated the original version? Thanks.
It’s not the original Mary’s minis diet and yes the original was much stricter with no fruit. But people started complaining about no fruit allowed so they relented and said that fruit could be added to the diet. The carnivore is the best one to do to get rid of so many health conditions.
Mary’s mini allows only fat free sauces on her plan, which means no tofu or beans or any other protein, but people do it all sorts of ways. I think the premise of just one starch and only non starchy veggies is to simplify and clean the palate
The McDougalls say You cannot use beans as your starch because there is too much protein in beans. You can add a small amount of beans to your main starch such as having rice with beans and veggies. You want to keep beans to less than 1 cup per day.
@@karenbailyWhy beans less than one cup? Dr Greger recommends 3 servings a day (1.5 cups). Beans become very important when decreasing the consumption of animal foods.

Why do you have to stick to one starch and not mix it up with other starches?
It’s part of the protocol for a Mary’s mini.
Boredom with one starch helps you eat less. You can eat until you are full, but are less likely to overeat.
@plantwhys do we have to only eat one type of starch the whole challenge for it to work? Like could we do rice one meal instead of potatoes?
