This talk is titled "Caregiver-implemented Shared Book Reading for Preschoolers with Autism in Brazil" and took place on April 21, 2023.
Abstract: There is evidence about the effectiveness of using caregiver-implemented, shared book reading programs for mitigating language and literacy deficits of children with autism spectrum disorders. In Brazil, studies of this nature are scarce, but essential for identifying successful early intervention practices for a population that has significantly grown in the last three decades. This presentation aims to discuss the results of two studies that evaluated the effects of parent-implemented shared reading protocols on language/literacy of preschoolers with autism in the home environment. Adaptations of the programs for Brazilian dyads and the studies´ limitations are discussed.
