My class sang this song in 5th grade my teacher recorded us and had turned it into a halloween cd. K-12th grade each had a song. Im sad cause i lost the cd but i still have the case
Terrific version-thanks a megaton! This novelty tune has always been sung before in an adult-being-childlike fashion as a kindergarteners' folk song, but wow: this is the most rockin, the only rockin version I've ever heard. In the early 60's I went to a folk music summer camp called Killooleet in Vermont. It was run by the Seegers, folksingers all, and this is one of the songs I learned there. But there was a last verse we sang that I've never heard anywhere else (maybe because the camp was run by the Seegers?). It went like this: "The A-bomb fell just the other day/The H-bomb fell in the very same way/First Russia went, then England went, and then the U.S.A./The human race was wiped out without a chance to pray/But the cat came back" &c. Anybody else ever heard that verse? But this version is def. the bomb. Well done, Scott!
I remember this being the song sung at my grandparents' old cabin. Fond memories, but I always remembered the one lyric we wrote in most: Then the H-bombs fell and blew everyone away “Boom”, went Russia, Europe, and then the USA With all 7 continents all in ruin and rubble, That cat can’t possibly cause him any trouble. (Cue refrain)
I remember that verse, too. When I was putting the piece together I was surprised to see just how many additional and variant verses had been created/added over the years; made choosing which ones to use extra tough. I thought about doing a super-mega long version with all of them but down that pathway lies madness... :)
I heard my brother listening to this. Not the kiddie one this one. I liked it and tried to look at what song was on but he switched it to “the friendship song” before I could read
This song had been haunting me! I am happy i found this version! I was looking for the version of the cat on the river in a boat. That part definitely stuck because of cartoons referencing drowning cats. No one else seemed to recall the song and i know my memory ain't gonna make a fun silly sounding song about trying to kill or get rid of a cat.
I know right? I find my self mesmerized by the cat's blinking. Its always in time, and shifts to different beats during the song, but almost always on the down beat. My favorite blink sequence is when it matches the drumming for a moment on the verse about the train wreck.
A nice cover, updates the beat for newer audiences... But don't look at the cup as half empty & say "lame video"; look at it as half full & say "still image with a surprise"! Remember, if it's music you're making, then it's the music that matters, & what lasts ultimately, & video is only secondary, as is the soundtrack when one's main purpose is to make a movie. Especially for a cover tune, no musician should have to feel inadequate for lack of a video... Music rules!
God I wish I could get them to play this on the radio.
This is truly the best version of an already good song.
Aww! Thank you so much!! :)

That seems a little extreme, don't you think? Yes, it's a good song, but is it really worth getting someone killed over?

Now the cat was a possessor of a family of her own with seven little kittens till there came a cyclone
