I ordered an E2D a week ago, wow what an amazing instrument! I really love the open pore finish too. Gives a very loud and in your face sound. This guitar has such a sweet/crisp tone, and it's the most responsive guitar I've ever owned. Sounds fantastic in DADGAD too. It's an amazing fingerstyle guitar, and equally takes a flatpick. I can't believe this guitar can be had for less than $600. It easily compares to guitars in the $2K - $3K range IMO. It's my 4th Eastman, and probably my favorite.
Hey man, i like your vids, great content! What would you choose between this and eastman ac122-1ce? They are similar price. I know that i can't get same sound as martin's d-18 for this price, but tonally which one would be closer? Or maybe you know some other alternatives at this price level? I heard that mahogany body makes it warmer sounding and these eastman's may sound brighter? Thanks!
Thanks Django! Personally, I haven't played the 122 CE yet, only the 222 and the 422. But I honestly loved the E2D-CD a lot amongst the bunch. It was warm and full whilst still having a nice bright top end. For a guitar in this price range you can't go wrong with it in my opinion!
Every guitar is different of course! The AC222 that I tested had considerable more low end than the E2D, that's why I recommended it ;) But nothing beats users experience of course.
Hi Samuel! The E2D-CD used to have a maple neck thats where the confusion comes from. But it has recently indeed changed to mahogany. I contacted Eastman and they told me this: ‘The E2D originally had a maple neck in it's early days, however when this model was updated the neck was changed to mahogany’.

I think this guitar sounds better than a lot of other expensive ones.
Bought a nearly new one on ebay for £300. was stunned by the clarity and balanced sound, plenty bass but not overwhelming. Definitely a keeper!
Thanks for this brilliant review. A fingerstyle-leaning dread. Perfect!
Well thank you for the kind words richard!
Just bought one...cannot wait to play it...
thank you - you always do the best most critical and guideful review
thanks michael!
That's all you need! No need to spend thousands

Why would you recommend looking at the AC222 models?
I have an AC222 and I am looking for a E1D or E2D for more lower end ^^
Is your ac222 the new solid one with ovankol or the older laminate b&s ac222?

What's up with the super shiny fretboard?
proparbly the lighting on our part.. And maico has insanely sweaty fingers!
Eastman always polish their ebony fretboards
The problem with the cedar top, the cracks
Not a problem with appropriate care of the instrument.
Why do I feel this sounds better than a ed3
The Cedar top mellows the sound....probably more pleasing to the ear vs the Spruce.
mapple on neck,
noooo, it s mahogany wood
