I just noticed this, but in the English version, the lips are synced to English, but in this version, the mouth movements are Japanese. That's dedication to detail!
yeah this was Square's first title where they did that for the singing parts. they more recently did that for Kingdom hearts 3 during the Frozen let it go part. There might be problems with this method though because u can probably tell the English ver of the song had double vocals or whatever you call them, and so they re-animated the ending part to have a duet
@@recklart8592 It's the kind of thing you don't pay attention to unless they don't do it. Like when playing Lighting Returns after XIII/XIII-2, it's really jarring because all of a sudden they didn't bother doing English lip animation. Then you realise how much extra work they put into the first two parts!
They reanimate all lipsyncing in the english versions of the later Final Fantasy games(and most of their games really). That's why file sizes are big because they have two version of HD CGI cutscenes. The first time, they never reanimated the lipsyncing for an FF game is with FF16, with the lipsyncing only matched to the English dialogue.
Yuna you deserve a world full of light together with Tidus !! Your heart has never given up in the midst of so many sacrifices and the true power of the heart !!!!
I always loved this song due to the story portrayed and the emotion you can feel in the song as yuna sings, also she stopped what amounted to the beginnings of a war with this song that brought sunlight to a perpetually dark and storming area.
every time it's raining hard, l would always remember this song. it would make me calm and nostalgic at the same time. for every hardship there will come time it will all go away. you just have to endure it and wait.the sun would always shine again.
They entirely redid the cutscene between English and Japanese because in English it's a duet at the end, so the cutscene is entirely different between each version. When they went back to redo they modified a few other parts :D
I'm super surprised they changed the song so much from Japanese and English. The visuals of Yuna's duet with Lenne were much more powerful. Still a wonderful song in both languages: the translation is very good. But still, I wonder why it was changed so?
Yeah, that duet is where the emotional punch of the song really hits in the English version. While this version is great, when I expected the duet here, it's like waiting for the bass to drop and it never does. Still great in both versions, though!
I also love the english version of it but since the japanese version doesn't have duet in it, the cutscene isn't impactful... But at least they did separate cut scene on it and it really did give huge different. They really thought that laying the cutscenes of japanese to the english song doesn't fit right.
Ooh this is the first time I'm watching the jp version and didn't realise they didn't use the double with yuna and lenne together. Pretty cool what they did in the English one tbh.
When I first search FOR japanese version on youtube, i was looking forward for the duet in japanese version and realise english version did some change XD
Imo it feels like what they did for the internation version was sort of a gimmick to make the cutscene more "Music Video"-like. This version here is more in line with the story and fits much better as a video game cutscene (we get the full sequence of Lenne's memories with no jumpcuts to the concert and Lenne is clearly shown as a spirit inside the dresssphere, with no physical form or lingering pyreflies, only able to convey her emotions through Yuna). Remember that Maechen said he felt Lenne's presence in Yuna while she was singing, not beside her singing a duet ;) I love both versions. They both work so well, but in different ways.
This is my first time ever watching the Japanese version, and it's crazy how different these versions make you feel. The whole ending sequence duet just doesn't exist in this version. It makes me feel Yuna's emotions more intensely, but musically, it doesn't hit as hard.

Yeah, it feels like whitewashing made so that the characters would appear more "western". Same goes for the eyes, which are slightly and unnaturally more opened. Unnecessary retouch, imo.
Story wise, sure, but some of the gameplay decisions they went with made it quite a jarring contrast to the original. Plus, people saw Yuna as an idol in the opening cutscene and were immediately turned off.

I can tell they definitely reanimated the lips for the english version, or at least had a very good editor. The ending scene felt more impactful in the english version personally with both Lenne and Yuna standing together rather than the Japanese version which cuts back and forth from Lenne to Yuna. Also the ending lyrics in the english version was a nice touch instead of the silence in the japanese version as it keeps focus on Yuna even if it pans over to her castmates.
Nah, considering it's Square we're talking about, they animated a whole different set of lip movements to match the English and Japanese versions. I noticed it when I was watching Shirrako's upload of the English version. I then flipped over here, and watched their mouths, and saw that they were different.
I’ll never forget hearing this while playing the game. I made sure to listen to the Japanese versions so I could learn the truth of what they were representing. Sometimes translations lose too much. I couldn’t sing it well so I printed out the romanji so I could learn the words. I still remember so many.
I wonder why they didn’t do the split with adlibs in the Japanese version… would add more depth to it imo. Especially with how good Koda Kumi’s vocals are.
I think they redid that part to make it go along with Jade ft sweetbox version of the song. From what I recall, koda kumi was originally supposed to sing the English ver. but Square thought Koda sounded like she was reading when singing in English. So they scrap that idea and got a American singer to do it. And the Adlib parts were probably improvised by them. FFX-2 is the first game where square redid the FMV scenes for the singing parts to match the mouth movement. They would go do this for kingdom hearts iii also during the Frozen scenes
I think it's cultural reason. Possessed by spirit is very Asian thing. So, they prefer to show Yuna is possessed by Lenne in Japanese version rather than Yuna and Lenne duet.
Whether you like japanese or english version, there are several factors (other than the differences in each version): 1) nostalgia factor: people tend to like the first version they played more 2) understanding of the language: you tend to like the language that you can understand more Of course these are not always true. Some people might be the opposite of these, when they find the other version is much more impressive Differences: 1) singing voice 2) Lenne's despair is much more apparent in Japanese version 3) duet in english version because the english singer uses double voices or something Thank you for the upscaled video, amazing.
2) understanding of the language: you tend to like the language that you can understand more Sorry, but this one's pure bullshit. English is my main language, but Japanese is just hands down more beautiful. I loved it before I understood it, and learning the meaning of the words just made me adore it more. Now being able to write & speak Japanese, I still get astonished at it's the ability to express so much pure human emotions.
Yes, i played FFX-2 first because i was just a kid and i was too broke to get my hands on ffx, and it's better this way cuz now i prefer 10-2. Ffx is only a long linear game, ffx-2 is the opposite, it's a real ff game
Actually, most people these days tend to like the language they DON'T know because they think it's better sung or voiced because they don't know the language in question. This goes for VA in general as well. It's not the case of being familiar, but moreso the case that people just always assume it's good, even when it's quite possibly mediocre (not in this case, because the Japanese version is great.)
@@zakts911nah, ain't noway dude just said x-2 is the real ff game. It's one thing to said it's the best ff game because atleast it's subjective. But the real ff games? Sorry to tell you my guy, the real ff games is always the long and linear one.
I can't believe that people don't notice Yuna's transition to Lenne are different in Japanese version and English version. It wasn't just the lip sync...there's also a few parts that are different other than the transitions and i'm so proud that i've noticed that 😂
She was holding back her real personality because of being a summoner and being the daughter of a high summoner, she's actually a really curious teenager and love to have some fun, in x2 she try to be true to herself with rikku influence she trying to be more outgoing, this is a good character development, the only thing I didn't like was the outfit and the hairstyle
Amazing, it looks beautiful! Thank you for this. Is there any way you could do this with the english version too so we could compare? I've noticed that the characters faces amongst other things are actually slightly different in the versions and it would be cool to compare.
Thank you. And sure I’ve been wanting to do the English versions it’s just these upscales take very long like over 72 hours for each clip lol but the English version is something I plan on doing in the future. I believe ffx-2 is the first game by Square Enix where they tried to match the lip sync for the singing parts. They did this with kingdom hearts 3 recently with the frozen let it go singing parts where they re-animated the English and Japanese versions so it’ll look like it matches. With ffx-2, they did a little extra where they altered the color and made lennes eyes bigger for some reason which I didn’t really like. They also altered some scenes where they gave entirely new animation like the yuna and lenne duet part. I assume they did that cuz jade from sweetbox had a lot of double vocals in her version of the song so they re-did the cg so it’ll match that. Both are good in my opinion. I prefer the English ver of real emotion but I like how the Japanese Cgi look for 1000 words more. It feels more natural but that’s jus my opinion
@@DemiGodX Wow, that's a really long time. Thank you so much for sharing it with all of us even though it takes so much work! That's really awesome of you! Yeah, you're right about that. I've noticed too that both Lenne and Yuna's faces appear different with bigger eyes and smaller faces (?) maybe to make them look more caucasian? I think both cinematics look beautiful but the japanese one has more details and just looks cleaner somehow. Anyhoo! Thanks again!
@@DemiGodX Personally, I like the Japanese song versions of "A Thousand Words " (Sen No Kotoba), Koda Kumi sang it so beautifully. Interestingly, as you mentioned, Jade of sweetbox had double vocals in her version. And it was a great decision for the developers to redo the cutscene & feature Lenne as a duet with Yuna. The performance impact of the song is increased, no doubt.
@@DemiGodX I agree with you on real emotion but after I watched the japanese version of 1000 words I can say with no doubt that the japanese version flows alot more smoothly the the english version, it has a bigger emotionel impact in the japanese version.
Idk if they changed their (Yuna & Renne) facial expression or not... But Yuna in JP at first looks like she's telling a story begins with happiness, while EN Yuna seems to be hurtful at the beginning... And the looks on Renne's face last time when they're about to be execute looks more painful in JP than EN version... imo
I like the Japanese version way better. I'm unsure why exactly? Like they both sound good, but the japanese version touches my emotions way better than the english version. Almost like the japanese version was sung through emotion, and the english was sung out of just "make sure I sing it good!"
@@courtneyward7149 it’s a shame really, I usually prefer the originals and in video games the Japanese versions usually capture the moment later sadly this is one of the exceptions
I mean, this scene is moronic on every single level*, but gosh dang if it still isn't somehow effective in its total unembarrassed cheesiness. FFX-2 was a cynical cash grab through and through, but scenes like this nonetheless showed that the creative team still had some sort of spark and flair and wanted to do something at least a little special. *(Questions raised in no particular order: How did Lenne immediately get to Bevelle to talk Shuyin down and both manage to sneak past the assuredly high security and yet conveniently only do so right at the last minute so that they could have their dumb dramatic death scene? Why would the guards execute unarmed, clearly surrendering civilian teenagers on the spot rather than arrest them, other than to have a dumb dramatic death scene? Why did YRP choose to have a pop concert in the one area of Spira that constantly sends lightning down at passersbys? Is it a total coincidence that this is the only time ever in either game that the storm seems to pass, or was Yuna's singing just that damn good? Or do the clouds part and does the sun start to shine just to have a dumb dramatic finish to the song? Sure sounds like a reason to have set the concert on almost literally any other location in Spira. Also, It's established later that the Lenne/Shuyin reminiscence was a fluke and that Yuna was just planning on singing them some sappy love song, so why did they think this idea would work in the first place to stop a god damn civil war? Why not just tell Spira that a giant death machine is about to be reawakened and they need to band together to stop it? etc.)
I had the same question about the location, like really, thunder plains of all places?! It's constantly raining, how people are going to enjoy the song drenched while thunder is cracking in the background?Again, why the most dangerous place in Spira? You're doing concert with Machina involved, and pre this scene the game kept mentioning how the lightening towers were getting old, heck we even had to calibrate them ourselves; it's highly likely sparks may slip thru, right into people airship and everyone on/in it. It's not like Luca has a massive stadium that's used as a stage at the beginning of the game, or there is this huge piece of land that's literally 'calm land'. Every bit of logic to use the most convenient location is thrown out of the window; but yea, where else one could find rain to use for dramatic effect and sun shining after the dark cliché? Dancing was used to send unrested souls in Spira, in the sequel singing can manipulate weather
I just realized that, in the English version, Lenne has a duet with Yuna while the Japanese version doesn't. Maybe that's why, despite not knowing any Japanese, I prefer the cleaner and simpler JP version.
It's a crime this version of this song is not on Spotify.

[Bien qu'un millier de mots
N'aient jamais été dits
Ils voleront vers toi
A travers le temps
Et la distance qui te retient
Porté par des ailes d'argent
Et un millier de mots
Un millier de confessions
T'apaiseront
Really hope they can get this level of upscale for the Advent Children 4K release.
Thanks for uploading this!
man... the memories
Whether you like japanese or english version, there are several factors (other than the differences in each version):
1) nostalgia factor: people tend to like the first version they played more
2) understanding of the language: you tend to like the language that you can understand more
Of course these are not always true. Some people might be the opposite of these, when they find the other version is much more impressive
Differences:
1) singing voice
2) Lenne's despair is much more apparent in Japanese version
3) duet in english version because the english singer uses double voices or something
Thank you for the upscaled video, amazing.
2) understanding of the language: you tend to like the language that you can understand more
Sorry, but this one's pure bullshit.
Now I can cry again to this in hd 😂
Koda kumi's voice is gorgeous but I prefer the duet aspect of the English version.
Wowww is so beautifull this version
I can't believe that people don't notice Yuna's transition to Lenne are different in Japanese version and English version. It wasn't just the lip sync...there's also a few parts that are different other than the transitions and i'm so proud that i've noticed that 😂
I can't find this anywhere?! Even in streaming services with Koda Kumi's Discography. Thank you for uploading in 4K!
for some reason, be it licensing issues or something else, it was removed from streaming services 😢
I still cant accept Yuna's personality changed so much from X to X-2.
I actually enjoy both versions surprisingly
This game saved my life♡ I Love yunnie
thank you. i've been searching 1080P HD for years. arigato!
We can never appreciate enough the wonderful time we had in this era
I was so shocked back then when this Scene began.
Oh wow they wholesale animated different segments for the Japanese & English lipsync parts. They spent money on that in 2002/2003
OMG! It took me almost 20 years to know that the English version and Japanese version are different.. Just wow...
I watched the English version too much cause the end of the Japanese version sounds like ends so abruptly 😅
I do enjoy both, but for once I think I prefer the English! I think the singer had more power behind her voice. Both are still very beautiful
I like this version more than English
I wish I was know the meaning 😭 I can sing this song without any trying.. this is my whole childhood :))))
They have the English version
love 1000 words
This is amazing.
omg this is amazing thank you so much :)))
Esta cancion me hace erizar !!!! Me encantó este juego!!!! Hermosa rola!!!
I've never seen the Japanese version of Final Fantasy X-2 so I didn't know that there's no duet part with Yuna and Lenne in that version.
神画質 神曲
Idk if they changed their (Yuna & Renne) facial expression or not... But Yuna in JP at first looks like she's telling a story begins with happiness, while EN Yuna seems to be hurtful at the beginning...
And the looks on Renne's face last time when they're about to be execute looks more painful in JP than EN version... imo
They changed lip movement in English version to match English song, so probably it's also affected overall facial expression.
koda kumi DID THAT
I like the Japanese version way better. I'm unsure why exactly? Like they both sound good, but the japanese version touches my emotions way better than the english version. Almost like the japanese version was sung through emotion, and the english was sung out of just "make sure I sing it good!"
English version is a significant upgrade visually imho. I feel blessed for getting to experience that one playing this so long ago.
FF8 was my favorite game in the series, but this was my favorite song.
((Unless Noel's and Yeul's themes count, in which case..))
This moment
FFX/2 just hit different
My best song 🎧😍
X 2は当時はどこのショップ行ってもゲームの中身より歌やPVを推してたな〜w
まだ有名じゃなかった倖田來未を売り出すエイベックスとの戦略だったね
It’s great but the English version has more passion(I hate myself for this)
Hearing this version for the first time I have to say I agree with you sadly
@@courtneyward7149 it’s a shame really, I usually prefer the originals and in video games the Japanese versions usually capture the moment later sadly this is one of the exceptions
awesome. thank you
Now you've gone and made me cry. 😥
i like the english version better, both are good though
This is by far better than than the English version. It’s not even close lol.
this is much deeper than the english version
She has a strong sexy voice in the Japanese version, and much more so than the English version. 😊❤
Lenne Shuyn Tidus Yuna i dont like X2 but this scene and true ending is perfect i play only to see yuna and Tidus together again
Please do a remake of X / X-2 next! 😭
2000 till this day till this very day
fun fact: the english and ujapanese version has little diference in this cinematic (like in the dueto)
この曲だけはインターナショナル版の方が好き
ユウナとレンのデュエットは鳥肌
そうですね。。綺麗な曲でしょう
I just realized that, in the English version, Lenne has a duet with Yuna while the Japanese version doesn't. Maybe that's why, despite not knowing any Japanese, I prefer the cleaner and simpler JP version.
look at lennes eyes compared to the english ver, it looks so much more natural in the japanese ver
😭 😭 😭 don’t do this to me. Waaaaahh 😭
