  • A 2007 Range Rover Sport automatic with a fault that causes the transmission to shift into neutral when stopped. In this video we adjust the shifter cable under the car so that the problem is resolved.
Note that this probably is likely caused by the shifter linkage seizing up or becoming stiff from rust. Its a cheap part; Atlantic British does a kit for $40 (plus about $4 shipping if you live in the US) so I recommend changing the part. Your shifter will be a lot easier and smoother to move after the linkage is replaced. This video doesn't show the replacement but if you are under there trying to adjust the cable you've already got the hard work done. Adjusting the shifter cable will just buy you time.
Warning! Its not my fault if you some how screw this up. I'm just a guy that likes to fix things himself. Also, you may get a face full of black stuff and end looking like me in this video. No idea where that came from but its dirty under there!

Thanks for posting this. I diagnosed the problem this morning (after a few days of thinking the car was junk) and will hopefully have it fixed by lunchtime!
Other temporary 'fixes', until you can get underneath to do it properly are - a long elastic band, pulling the stick backwards or drive it in Sport Mode where it doesn't seem to jump.

Wow thank you as this video is very clear on what to do as my 2007 RRsport been sitting for about two years and wouldnt go into gear after started. Makes sense this rod could be stuck :) Will try this for sure and then have towed to mechanic for MVI

I bought a 2013 Range Rover sport, got half way home and it popped in neutral. Now I either have to drive in manual mode or hold the gear selector back into drive while driving.

@sagar basnet when I first tighten it when I put it in drive I would have to tap it backwards but it's been a week and it has been working perfectly but sometimes when it's in drive the gear sector says neutral but it's work perfectly
