  • As 2016 nears an end, CarGurus is happy to present our first Minivan Roundup. We had the pleasure of test-driving and reviewing the Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, Kia Sedona, and Chrysler Pacifica this year. Which one is best for you?
    Each minivan employs a V6 engine, but power ranges across the four, from 3.5-liter engines making 248 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque in the Odyssey and 266 horsepower and 245 lb-ft in the Sienna, to the Sedona’s smaller 3.3-liter V6 and its 276 horsepower and 248 lb-ft, to a beefy 287 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque from the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica’s 3.6-liter.
    Seating for up to 8 is available in all four models as well, and cargo space maxes out above 140 cubic feet for each minivan. But the way owners access all that space varies from vehicle to vehicle.
    All minivans have a third row that folds into the floor, but in the Honda and the Toyota, the second row has to be physically removed. The Sedona features a second row that folds up against the front row, and the Chrysler’s Stow-N-Go second row works in the same manner as each minivan’s third row - it folds easily into the floor.
    The specialties of each minivan help define their ideal customer. The Odyssey delivers a track record of reliability and some impressive features like its HondaVac and rear-seat entertainment system in a value-oriented SE trim. The Sienna’s optional all-wheel drive makes it the de facto choice for shoppers in wintry climes. Kia has long been thought of as a second-tier automaker, but the Sedona’s upscale interior and panoramic moonroof help to overturn this falsehood, while its low starting price establishes it as a genuinely good value. Finally, the Pacifica, as the newest vehicle of the four, takes many of the competitors’ best features, packages them into a shiny new package, and delivers class-leading power, towing, and fuel economy.

    Kia Sedona all day baby. My parents own a 2006 Kia Sedona it's just an excellent van really. It seems like it'll never ever die it just keeps running even with nearly 200,000 miles on it and that 10 Year/100,000 Miles Powertrain Warranty really gives you an extra peice of mind and comes in handy!👏💯

    +1 for Kia Sedona. I just purchased a brand new 2020 EX a few days ago and I'm LOVING IT! I test drove everything that's out there, I mean, EVERYTHING and for the money you can't beat the Sedona. I still have my 2007 Toyota Sienna which I do love very much, it has an old design and the paint is starting to fade for it has 170,000 miles on it but that thing still runs like new and it feels like Is going to last me for another ten years. The 266HP engine and that five speed transmission is STRONG! Having said that, I see no reason why the Sedona shouldn't last me as long, as long as I do the oil and transmission fluid changes with high quality synthetic oils (no they are not al the same and I use MAG1 motor oil) it should last just as long. Only time will tell but from all the SUVs and mini vans I test drove the Kia Sedona was the one.
    As for the MPG yes the Sedona is probably the least gas efficient but in reality since I mainly drive in the city it makes zero difference because all cars suck in the city, unless is a hybrid or electric, so just because the competition gives you "better" MPG in the highway that does not matter to me because I probably only travel far once a year, maybe twice. I wasn't going to pay what Chrysler, Honda and Toyota were asking for the INSANELY high monthly payments with cheap cloth seats. The Kia dealer I went to was the only one that game me the car I wanted at the price I could afford. I was in SHOCK when they told me those words "it's a deal!". When it comes to space, style, comfort, ride quality, engine power, car payments, nothing beats the Sedona right now. Everyone else is overpaying for "cool" looking SUVs, and that's totally fine because I've been there and I too like to be cool, but I'm done throwing my money away :-)

    I have a very well cared for 2005 KIA Sedona and I have no kids. I took out 3 of the bucket seats for cargo and my dogs. I don't understand what's not cool about a minivan. They are the most practical vehicles to own.

    In fact Mom and I sometimes would mistake the Dodge mini van for the Windstar as it looked almost alike except one tiny difference in the door handles and the rear window was a bit narrower like the trend of today's cars. For a brief time in 1998 we rented the Premium Windstar for two years which is how we feel in love with it and got a used version in 2001 that didn't have the fancy bells and whistles.. We would go up to the Dodge one and wonder why it wasn't opening and feel stupid. Now a days they all have this weird electronic thing.

    They need to revive our old windstar. It was more like a car then a truck yet had all the features of a mini van and more. We had it for 12 years and only just had trouble with the tranny giving out twice and the seats were old and hard.etc. We took good care of it and for 9 years we had a garage so that might have helped things. The Windstar got 24mpg while other cars except expensive ones were getting only like 18.

    If I'm spending 40K on a minivan, I want it to give me 10 years of trouble free service. I'll take the Toyota thank you. I'm speaking from experience of having owned the Honda, Toyota and Chrysler. Don't know much about the Kia.

    • @g5258
      @g5258 7 лет назад +3

      Why All The Fuss no argument there. I'm considering one of these vans, Chrysler is at the very bottom given their track record of unreliability. Two questions for you, is the Honda not as reliable as the Toyota? Are you aware of Kia's 10 year warranty, would that make a difference?

    • @whyallthefuss201
      @whyallthefuss201 7 лет назад +2

      The Kia's 10 year warranty certainly comes into equation. But my experience with Toyota products have been stellar and completely the opposite with my 2 Chrysler products in recent years. Your appreciation for the Toyota product really doesn't sink-in until around the 8th to 10 year mark. That's when you know you made the right choice. The only gripe I have with the Honda is the transmission problem they can't seem to figure out. As far as Kia, I'm on the fence: even with their 10 year warranty.

      Why All The Fuss you’ve owned the Honda, Toyota, and Chrysler even though the Chrysler Pacifica was just invented?

    • @anorveaa
      @anorveaa 4 года назад

      Yes for sure I too was not sure if I should get a Kia but one thing I have learned and what I have seen during the last couple of years is what Hyundai has done and what they have become and I also went to a few Kia dealerships to look at their cars and man oh man I had no idea how nice Kia cars are. Everything is high quality and all I know is that Kia is here to stay and Kia just set a new standard when it comes to high quality and the Telluride is proof of that. That's how I discovered and found the Kia Sedona and I didn't even know they made a mini van. After test driving it I was blown away as to how much more advanced and solid and nicer it is compared to my 2007 Toyota Sienna. I still love my Sienna because dependability is so important to me, but unless my Kia Sedona dies on me sooner then expected I have no reason not to continue doing business with Kia and I know I will expect much cooler cars from them in the near future.
      As for Chrysler, all I know is that American cars don't make reliable transmissions and a few people have told me to stay away from Chrysler if I want a vehicle that will last me a very long time. Personally I rather buy a Korean car from Hyundai or Kia than American. Sorry :-)

    The Windstar had GREAT rear view visibility. For some reason all the cars today have this awful narrow end where you can't see out of and we hate every moment of it. We wounded up getting a Dodge Journey the closest thing and it's not as good. When in the parking lot all the other cars now look alike. Our Windstar was easy to find because of how it stood out. Back in the Bush era that wasn't the case. Our van would be hid among other bigger vans that were gas guzzlers.

    If the odessey is so great in terms of reliability, why doesn't it have 100000 mile warranty like the Kia sodona ?

    I would go for the Honda, their track record is incredible, No offence but we can't make a decent car, things begin to break in about 150% of the timespan that would take for a Honda or a Toyota to start failing. For instance, I drive a 2005 FourRunner that has 272K miles, and without holding back "I will say, it Runs Strong with no funky noises". Besides, the Pacifica will cost you another 10K.
    Andrew.
    If you want our US Auto industry to be better, then strive for it, but don't give in to poor quality, instead, we should learn from what they are doing, so we can make BETTER vehicles rather than make Vroom Vroom sounds and spending 5K every two years.
    Why All the Fuss,
    I am with you, Like I said, I have a 4Runner with 270K, btw I am a Surveyor, we go places only hunters go on foot, I use a 4x4 4Runner instead.
    Kia is made in Korea, those guys are really smart, they have an education that would embarrass the US any day of the week since they have no resources at all, the only think they market is Professionals, good ones that is. Therefore, their 10K mile warranty I have to say may hold its own, they are BOASTING to the Japanese brands Honda and Toyota, it's an Honor thing, I bet those guys really hate each other. Japan has the track record, Korea has a chip on the shoulder... Hey here is an Idea remember during the Meiji era a bunch of Japanese were sent to Europe, I wonder if their knowledge of metals went with them, hint All of Europe make super cars except Rusia, it is too cold

    Personally, I love the styling of the new Pacifica. It just looks so flowing and has a very upscale an luxurious look to it. All this to the side, the Pacifica will most likely be the least reliable of the bunch.
    The Toyota and the Odyssey will most certainly have the best resale value and the least depreciation.
    The Sedona, like mentioned, will probably give you the most car for money.
    Overall, all of these minivans are highly competitive but, if I had to pick one. I would pick the Pacifica. This is because of its nicer styling, of the bunch, and the very useful and handy Stow n' Go mechanism. Also, the Pacifica probably has one of the most safisticated and updated interiors in the class (With the Sedona right behind it). Not to mention, the Pacifica has one of the best fuel economy figures in its class.
    All in all, the Pacifica will be my choice. Keep in mind though, that going with any of its other competitors will definitely not be a bad choice. To each his own.
