I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants to separate presets from instruments! Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for watching! And agree, I use the search bar a lot
i love bitwig for the fact they can go overboard and i love daws who cut no limits
i can finally modulate almost everything holy crap
Agree!
Bitwig is awesome. I'm so glad I chose it a couple years ago. Thanks for the good introduction to the new modulators. 👌 They sound design at 6:04 is excellent!
Is a great DAW! Thanks for watching and I'm glad you liked that sound
Very concise video. I honestly didn't think we'd get msegs in this update. It's a happy surprise! Now the community has to find something else to nag about.
Haha true, the good thing is that they didn't added just one MSEG, but also other options. I wish they start applying the big screen editor to other plugins, not every device but some
..😅🤣😂
...snapshots ..stretching features in other warpmodes and update for stretch markers handling.......Capture midi...midicomping...
...next year....maybe....
If they finally decide to add midi-comping at some point, then I won't nag about anything else... ever. It's the only major function that I really need for the DAW to be complete.
Great new features, especially being able to modulate everything in the mixer. I was really hoping for MIDI comping, though.
we still can get it, remember that many features are added in decimals too.
@@AlexReidStudios People complain that this update doesn't warrant a version jump to 5. But what they forget is that bitwig actually delivers with .x updates far more than most other daws do.
Very clear video, punctual and with an example for each thing you point out. Thanks 🐰
Thank you so much! That's my aim when planning videos :)
honestly these sorts of features are supremely useful. really great addition to bitwig.
I've mentioned it before, MSEG is nothing new, but inside Bitwig and it's modular workflow is amazing
@@AlexReidStudios yeah i really like their implementation of it. seems pretty streamlined
In my eyes that's a quite "big" update, because implementing the "free form curve" as source for literally everything is extremely powerful and versatile. I guess everybody will agree, that this curves concept is by far more versatile as the Spectral Suite (although it is made for a completely different part of Bitwig Studio...).
Moreover I have realized, that the implementation seems to be quite well coded, because observing the CPU load shows almost no influence when used in a limited manner, while the Transient Shaper in the Spectral Suite with only one single application adds considerably CPU load... a h u g e difference.
The only thing I'd wish is the possibility to edit such a curve in The Grid also, when the Patch window is no maximizes (like it is currently necessary).
Even before I made a kick patch inside The Grid, but... now the envelopes are by far more customizable, giving almost all freedom to create any shape desired - great in this special application (and great as modulator in general).
Then I guess, the new Clip Launcher functions will enhance it's capabilities considerably in several aspects as well. Although this all come with a "leaning curve", but... as long as there's something new, something to "grow into" it gives an artist additional freedom to realize his/her musical ideas...
Whether speaking of the modulators, of the changed/new Grid modules, the Clip Launcher, the possibility to modulate and assign remote controls on a project-global basis - altogether it is an update I'd judge to be a worthy accompaniment of the version jump from 4.x to 5.x
There's enough room for further "growth" though... simply look at the competitors. So even though this update really compensates in several aspects for the waiting time, it is everything but an endpoint. Other challenges are not far, other functions are desired as well.... so this could tell us, that Bitwig Studio's developers are active and are still willing to enhance it to a professional level.
And it brought back some trust, which partly became questionable while the Spectral-Suite-"desaster".
Agree, is an updatebin the right direction. MSEG was needed exactly because it adds a lot of more possibilities
Looking great! I'm going to hold until the final release, because I've still got a lot to experiment with and so little time.
Wise move, I still have some months before my plan ends
I'm waiting for bitwig to add a pin to toggle vsts to always stay on top. A simple feature that I really miss coming from studio one.
I'd love that too
Thanks. I love the updates they are really useful and I started to use them. So far with Beta 3 i did not have any crashes😂
Me neither! I'm looking forward to see the full release
Bitwig seems quite formidable right out of the box. What really attracts me to it is a reason to escape Windows for Linux.
Hi, thanks for the video, I'm trying the Beta and I find the MSEG very interesting. I still have to try the "transfer" module, I litterally missed it, but you presented it very well! I would like to see some more about the new clip functionalities, but I admit that from that point of view I still prefer the Ableton way, especially the clip launch options. Thank you!
Gonna explore them better, and I agree, the transfer looks small but I knew I had to stop a bit more on it. Thanks for watching!
I would really like midi comping, and midi capture. I use them a lot with Ableton (alongside groove pools) and it would be nice to have. They need to do a big QOL high requested feature update.
Excellent update. Would still like to see Quantize onsets and midi comping.
Let's see what they add on 5.1 5.2 and so on
I love this update! Having buit in Infiltrator/Shaperbox is super fun. One thing I would love to have added to the Curves is an audio level trigger mode option like in the Snapheap LFO. It would make side chain bass to drum loops that much easier. However I don't want to nitpick too much because this is an amazing update!
The ability to trigger modulators on Phase Plant is one of my favorite features!
you can generate midi with the replacer and then trigger segments with it. there is also the possibility to assign a midi input to the new global and group modulators in the Inspector panel!
@@ToneFelice Yes, I have tried this. It works ok but is it hard to know where to put the replacer. I have been putting it on the track that is ducking the kick but I may need to try putting it on the track with the drums and then tell the bass TRACK mod to listen to the Replacer.
@@ToneFelice Yes putting the replacer on the drum track and sidechaining the track or global track to the replacer is the key to making that work.
@@lawinter1949 I also like to send my kick to a trigger aux track. Then you can do anything to the signal on the aux.. but set the aux to no output ;) Often I also like to use a timeshift to realize a lookahead and make the attack a bit smoother. Especially to avoid clicks at low frequencies. You can also put a quantize behind the replacer, depending on your signal..
Thanks as always! It seems everyone is talking about the MSEGs. For me the price of admission here are the global modulators. Wowee!
Global modulators are sooo useful! Thanks for watching :)
I'm sold, thanks man and goodbye ableton :D
Haha no problem, I got other tutorials too :)
Bueno! Nice job.
Gracias!
Pretty nifty!
Thanks!
Hello, i would be interested in sidechaining/ducking. How would you do that in Bitwig with the most precision but also quick workflow applyable in the whole project? For example, just ducking the Kick in the lower frequencies, not at the higher frequencies. And ducking a Pad sound only slightly at the low end, but heavily at the mids, etc etc.
To duck specific frequencies you can modulate a low node on the EQ. For that you can use Curves or even the audio sidechain
im really eager to try this Msegs, but no money for update for now ahaha :p but they seem so fun to explore and customize :p And btw , really nice that you created a Discord channel Alex, i just wonder why i can join :( is there anny specific reason why i cant join the server trough the lik u set up here ? Keep the good work and have fun
Be patience and save money, Is worth it :). That's weird, gonna check the link and will let you know!

woaa
indeed
So is this sort of like having built in Shaperbox 3?
Yeah something like that. Shaperbox works on MSEGs, so if you modulate different parameters on Bitwig you can get similar results
Likje having a version of Shaperbox 3 that can control any parameter or effect in the DAW.
Sorta but integrated and better. Can't get per note/poly mod, wavetables/import, or global mod with SB3. Can SB3 run at "audio rate"? I don't remember. Also, wavetable LFO apparently can be used as an oscillator. 💡
@@billB101 I don’t think you replicate the time module in shaperbox yet. But we might be getting there
Biggest issue with shaperbox to me, is that you can't automate the parameters shaperbox controls internally like filter cutoff. It's just an awful design choice, good thing I don't have to worry about no more.
Edit: false information, as it turns out you can automate these parameters with a secondary control after all.
wavetable lfo? shit. There goes the next few months lol. Thats awesome.
It really is! Love that feature, like adding movement to the movement
@@AlexReidStudios So many possible applications are rolling 'round in my head already 🤣
@@DaDamuse Make sure you watch my 10 tips for the new devices :D
@@AlexReidStudios done
Bitwig and ableton Fl studio I’m sticking with Fl and not buying future ableton versions while I love live im not gonna blow money on it every time a new version comes out 😂😂😂
that's the best customer policy ever. I still have the signature edition and can use it inside bitwig, but had to switch because of workflow really
@@AlexReidStudios no kidding I have signature too I'm glad I bought it
do you really need the mask ?
yep
now no need for lfo tool ;)
Exactly
This is the time to bury most of the 3rd party plugins..
I believe that time started before, but agree, the DAWs are getting stronger
It's just another nail in the coffin for them and I'm seriously considering selling a few I'm not even using anymore.
I got down to only seeking out like 3 third party plugs on my tracks. And even then I try to use Bigwigs first
I still like shaperbox for some things, but you have a good point. Cableguys will need to innovate some more, I think.
@@leo.nordmann If I were you I’d want to keep the ability to access your older tracks
