@@WaterLoggedLife hi Hilary, I accidentally turned on my power head while my six line was sleeping. The next day he was swimming ok (lost color) but today he’s gone. Is he shrimp food now?
@@jimmypark6759 Hi Jimmy, it's hard to say, its possible that it may have passed away, sometimes when they get scared they can hide for several days, so it could be that. Consider adding something like DrTim's Aquatics First Defense. If it is still alive it will help to boost its immune system and reduce its stress.
Hands down the Mandarin is my favourite fish. Even better now that they are being tank bred. I started my first tank and let it sit for a year with 100 pounds of live rock just to own one. Amazing species. Love all of them but they are my favourite.
Six-line wrasse is my absolute favorite i grew up having a six-line wrasse and it was so tough and had so much personality. I’m an adult now and I have my own tank with another six-line it brings back such a great feeling
Some great info regarding these beauties, thank you.. I have lost 3 or 4 wrasses in the past l because of a lid that was off (my stupidity) or just a small crease where they can squeeze through. These fish are one of my favorites particularly the Labouti & Lineatus..
I am happy to hear that you enjoyed it and that you too are a fan of the Laboute. Sad to hear about your losses. It never ceases to amaze me the small holes they manage to get out of. Do you have any in your tanks now?
Having been in the hobby awhile now, I have had a few wrasses over the years. I really like them overall, but my favorites are the fairy wrasses. I currently have a pair of Flame Wrasses which I have in my 125 gallon reef tank. I have had them for about a year and a half. They are very beautiful and peaceful fish.
Really like the "display" of the Naokos Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus naokoae) and can spend ages watching it. Tends to spend a lot of it's time high up in the water column unlike most fish. Although stressed in the video, remember to do research.. The Dragon wrasse (Novaculichthys taeniourus) shown for example, is not reef safe and is likely to upset your rockwork (also known as the rockmover wrasse) although the juvenile looks really cool.
Ooh! Thats another one I didn't get to talk about, but is such a great looking wrasse! I haven't seen a Naokos wrasse in what seems like years. Yes! It is so important to do your research.
I love the melanurus wrasse. The ones I have had eat anything I throw in the tank. My daily food is pellets x 2-3 times per day, and brine shrimp twice a week. He also love peppermint shrimp.
I currently own 3 wrasses but I have owned 5 in total and still want more: In order I owned them: Naoko wrasse (lived about 2-3 months before it jumped into the netting too many times and died of a swim bladder issue) Silver belly wrasse ( lived 2-3 months before it did the same thing as the naoko) Now: Jade wrasse (Still alive and has been for about 1-2 months) Radiant wrasse (Introduced yesterday and has been in the store for about a week to 2 weeks) Lubbock’s fairywrasse (same as the radiant)
Marine Depot Aquarium Supplies yeah, the radiant and lubbocks are having the time of their life and the tang ignored them after 30 minutes-1 hour of chasing
I love the Sixline wrass but I have a 29 gallon aquarium ,so it is not possible to keep it. In the future I would like to upgrade to a 100 gallon which I think it will be a great home for this fish.
Thank you so much for the informative video! I love your videos, very helpful. What type of live copepods and brand did you show in the video can't quite read the label.
This is a little bit of an older video, so I'm not sure of the brand featured. BUT, we do have Algae Barn copepods available on the BRS website. The pods at the link below are the same type as the ones featured in this video 🙂 www.bulkreefsupply.com/tisbee-pods-algaebarn.html
I would love to add some fairy and flasher wrasses to my tank but my Super Male (appropriately names Sharkey) is not happy with other similar shaped species.
Hi thanks for the great vids. Tangs wrasse and how about clown fishes and gobies. And also please do clean up crews like/sand cleaning/invertes. ultarian fishes. Thanks
Glad you are enjoying them. Fear not, both of those groups are on the list of videos to make. I'm glad you mentioned the clean up crew, I've been debating if I should do one on them too. I am a big fan of having as much of a functioning ecosystem as possible. Id rather add a fish or clean up crew to take care of a pest if I can. Do you have a favorite fish?
my six Line is queen. She takes care of her colony...1 ocelaris 1 flame hawk, 1 yellow tang, red or scarlet shrimp, flame angel.... they all tell me don't put nothing in here, we good over in here... unless it's another ocelaris or some beneficial coral.
They are such cool looking wrasses! There are so many different and wonderful wrasses out there it was hard to pick such a small handful to talk about.
I recently got a melanurus wrasse and my tank is 3ft about 40G. Also I have half of the tank small fine sand and the other half small crushed coral type. Am I going to be in trouble? I'm a very experienced freshwater person but newish to marine. Also why does my wrasse destroy nori but not eat it? I love you my female Wrasse. She was super confident the minute I put her in the tank. She stole my puffers food within 5 minutes and followed me straight away. I also find it super cute the she has a strict bed time of 6pm lol
I have a Lunare wrasse. I am thinking of getting a 6 line wrasse. Will they get along? How are they with coral banded shrimp, turbo snails, and emerald crabs?
You picked up a product that you said would help with a wrasse newly added to a tank but never said what the product was. It was in a bottle when you were sitting a the table in the last section of video. Something to help with their immune system I believe. What was it?
Ooh I believe that is the DrTims Aquatics First Defense... great product. Helpful for new fish or established fish who have gotten stressed. It's one of the products I like to keep on hand just in case
Very timid but I like my yellow banded possum wrasse, he’s gotten more comfortable over the last 3 months I’ve owned him but he’s still a shy fish. He hangs around my yellow eyed kole tang a bit
Perhaps I've missed it, so I apologize if so; but, I wonder if you could do a similar video on dragonets, especially the Mandarin Goby. Love all your informational videos! Thank you.
Water Logged I have had the broomtail for just about 6 months- he is about 8”. Have had the red breasted for about a year and the pair of gold bars for 2 years. Also have a red coris, Aussie tusk, surge and dragon wrasse in the tank. It is a 650 and fortunately between size of tank and aqua scale layout haven’t had any major aggression issues. In my experience aquascaping is a powerful part of tank design to minimize aggression . Plenty of hide outs and line of sight breaks!
I’ve kept 2, a six line and a melanurus. Recently lost my melanurus to my emerald crab... and a starry blenny too. Said week LOL, finally got the crab though Edit: is a melanurus wrasse a Christmas wrasse?
If I wanted to get a bristle worm eater I would get a bicolor goatfish if you have the right tank size I wouldn’t get it for that reason I would get it for the beauty my opinion it is an added bonus
I had to look this one up, I've never heard them called that, but I like it better than a Red Solon wrasse, I think its a better, more descriptive name. How long have you had him?
Great info on wrasses! Def my fav fish family. I have a few specie of fairy, flasher and leopards. They are very active and interesting to watch. Would love to try tamarins like the red tail or my dream fish blue stripe.
There is a bunch of rock work, it was hidden behind where I sat. That tank is the home of my XXL Red Hairy hermit crab who likes to move the rock around and climb all over the ship...it looks pretty cool when he climbs up and sits on the top mast of the ship.
I appreciate that you're an actual marine biologist telling hobbyists how to take care of fish. LISTEN TO HILARY!!!

Could u share with us how to QT newly bought wrasses?
It’s the same as any other fish depending on how sensitive they are
Is 6 line the only that eat bristle worms/ vermatids? I am wanting to get a flasher wrasse so hoping they do the same@
Do all of the fairy and flasher wrasse work well in a shoal/harem?
Hillary is an excellent presenter.
