Wow, I heard that Lovitz was really talented, but I never knew why. Now I know! I mean, he did that bit on SNL several times, but seeing the original groundlings version is even better.
Carson had a burning desire to invite John Lovitz over to chat; yeah, that's what Carson wanted, but he didn't want to insult the other groundlings because one of them was the nephew of an important network executive; yeah, that's how it was, and Carson was afraid of losing his show......but he didn't have to be afraid, because Carson knew black magic, yeah, that's the ticket and could have transformed everybody into table lamps, which he did once at an improve club; yeah, that's the way it happened.......
I've yearned to be a groundling. I have acted in community theater though. My director/producer told me to quit my job and go to NYC for real work. I was like yeah, if my mom lets me.
Well, if more than one person tells you that then the director/producer isn't trying to get rid of you, they think that you have a chance to up your game.
Without the Groundlings, we wouldn't have Paul Reubens, Cassandra Peterson, Jon Lovitz, Will Ferrell, and the great Phil Hartman. Feel free to add any names I've forgotten.
I'm terrible with names but good with faces and the cowboy -> 6:28 made it onto television for a while. Oh and Phil Hartmann was underrated, he was amazing.

I didn't recognize Mindy Sterling, AKA Frau Farbissina from the Austin Powers films!
At first I thought she was Cheri Oteri but yes, that's Mindy Sterling.

Tim Stack & John Lovitz did the voices of the lamp & the radio in The Brave Little Toaster.
Anyone else remember Night Stand with Dick Dietrick? Tim Stack is underrated.
He makes up his stories like brandon does
He was the first person I recognized in that video apart from Jon Lovitz
And Son of the Beach.
This is so funny miss the old comedies
I’m pretty sure that this appearance is what got Lovitz the audition for Saturday Night Live. This aired March ‘85 and he started on SNL November’85.
E-ticket

The Groundling theater is here in Hollywood. Just go.
The Groundlings are welcoming to older people. You can still do it.

@@wolfmanradio That’s not Cheri Oteri. It’s Mindy Sterling
Jon Lovitz said "That's the ticket!" later on "SNL."
The whole character was copied and milked for numerous recurring sketches.
Is that Tim Stack? Edit yes.
TV's Tim Stack
I’ve never heard or seen these people before? Pretty good
Tommy is the President and Founder of the organisation.
The rap song sounds like the music from Rapper's Delight
Tommy Fla-NA-gan lol
it stinks thank you jay sherman
By all means, hang out on a different channel. There are thousands.
@@twistoffate4791 I think this was a joke of some kind. Bc I know lovitz did s thing where he said 'it stinks'
@@pika23 Ahhh. Thanks.
SNL needs to rewrite this for trumps 34 counts of white collar crime.

I liked how Johnny twice said they were "nice".
