I always thought it was odd to have his hair parted in the middle like a seventh grader, but now I'm not sure if it wasn't the right choice, after all. Love that guy!
He was nervous but fought through it. I wish I could have been to his show he did in my area earlier in the year. After watching this, I won't miss his next one.
I don't disagree, Kevin is super quick... but he's surely using some of his on-stage material even in the interview, e.g. "the next best thing to being there is being with someone who looks similar"
@@gradeahonky i was in the audience (a teenager), there was supposed to be someone playing the piano before nealon came on but he slammed his hand in the car door so he couldn't play. johnny asked if anyone in the audience could play and a guy wearing jeans, a t-shirt and thongs went up and played. he could play and he was a ham so things were pretty loose in the studio prior to nealon coming on.
The 'perfect' hand sign and verbal aknowledegement from Carson at the very end of the interview. That set him up for a great career, as we all know he had.
Wow ... Kevin moved from CT to LA in 1977 just after I moved from LA to SF to PA to Boston, MA to NYC to Chicago, back to NYC, up to Saratoga Springs, and to Rowayton, CT, then to Philly and back to LA in 1980. Crazy! Maybe if I'd have gotten on Johnny, I wouldn't have had to move so much!
Met him at a Sarah Silverman stand-up after-thing. Not the most exciting guy, but some good bits (radio host interviewing Joe Mantegna's NY PR rep in the face of a crime wave: "Where else are you going to get Chinese at 3 AM? Try that in Santa Fe!").
Mom can we get cracker Jack's? Mom: we've got cracker Jack's at home. Crackerjacks at home. . . Then would you rather jokes? This guy saw future 2020 jokes and memes
You could, but they don't for some reason. I honestly think it's a skill, and Jonny made it feel so loose and casual. I miss him so much, his charming style, never stalled out for very long at all...just Mr smooth
@@josephhertzberg2734 You couldn't because people have too many choices and would change the channel as soon as something hits a dead end. Remember, Johnny did this in an era with no internet, 12 TV channels, and for the first 20 or so years most viewers didn't even have a remote.
Would you rather... listen to him ask another "would you rather"... or... would you rather him have stopped after maybe 2 or 3 of them? I feel like that bit went on about 6 questions too long...
@@dimitreze How can a personal opinion about something like this be wrong? You may have thought it was still funny after number 7 but I am not wrong when I say it got old to me.
What's funny is, Kevin dated Rosalind Chao for a while. He's actually my cousin and I got to meet her in person. Very sweet lady! Got to take a picture with her and everything.
The joke about him playing with the little piece of pork was freakin hysterical but then the parts about making tough decisions were brutal. He just kept giving example after example that weren't the least bit funny. That was weird.
So it’s true: Kevin Nealon has always looked about 45 years old. 😂
He was 31 in this 1984 appearance. Today he looks slightly younger than his age. Must be all that hiking.
I was thinking the same thing!

Kevin is a genius because his humor has transcended generations: from Johnny to Letterman to Conan, always funny.
Have you listened to him and Conan on Conan's podcast? It is hilarious madness where Sona and Matt can't stop laughing.
I can’t get enough of his lightning fast wit and rhythm. I’ve Been on a Nealon bender for a few weeks now (no drugs involved)
Give props to Kevin because you know that the interview was all unscripted and unrehearsed and he still was funny and had great answers!
WATCH AGAIN .... he was DENIED at the end and stood there like a lost yet arrogant puppy expecting to be called over. LOL What a loser
No interview on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson was scripted and rehearsed.
I don't disagree, Kevin is super quick... but he's surely using some of his on-stage material even in the interview, e.g. "the next best thing to being there is being with someone who looks similar"
I remember this appearance when it first aired. I have watched this many times. It made me a Kevin Nealon fan for life!
His comedy style is so unique.
He has always been a very funny guy who never got enough credit, in my opinion. What a great set, and he handled Johnny excellently
From being a bit nervous on his first TV appearance on Carson to absolutely torturing Conan O'Brien today.
That's one of the best opening jokes I've ever heard
Johnny right before commercial break: "Perfect 👌🏼"
I bet that memory is burned into Kevin's mind. A great first appearance, impromptu interview, ending with Johnny saying "Perfect"

First Carson and it’s mostly crowd work? The Balls on this kid!
Would love to have seen Kevin Nealon hiking with Carson. BTW he's great on this clip
Me too but Carson is dead so maybe his nephew jeff sotzing will hike with kevin nealon.

The similarity joke right at the end was just gold
Still miss Johnny Carson. ❤
I miss Johnny the most. I also wish that both Conan and Letterman were still on.
Such a funny man, and so humble you’d never know he was on Carson way back then. One of the best, funniest guys of my generation!
I like Kev, he's a funny guy and also a great writer, that's difficult to do
Wasn't expecting that, he was hilarious..
Nealon has a little Garry Shandling in him here
I was thinking Steve Martin…
Fortunately the surgery went well and they were able to remove the little Gary Shandling before he suffocated.
The Scar Is practically invisible @@TubenIt83
I see Garry here
Gotta say, that's better than a lot of the stand-ups I've seen on Carson. Nice

That last line is killer. So funny!
I love Kevin Nealon. He has his own RUclips channel, by the way.

I think this man will make a great boss for a video game company.
Kevin. Still making us laugh! Best part? Kev-ON.
He’s just amazing. Always.
This ages beautifully
Great to hear Michael Landon’s laugh!
O lol I didn't even notice it was him.
oh wow, at the very very end, you hear Johnny say to him: "perfect." 😮❤

And a star was born.
If you haven’t heard it, look for Kevin telling the story about this very moment. It makes it that much better.

At the end of this clip it looks like Johnny Carson turning to Kevin and give his approval of his appearance !
ohhh, the last punch was the best
A true comedy treasure. Still funny and still going.
Kevin is so dressed like he's from Bridgeport Connecticut.
Pretty unique approach with stand up. Great stuff
Another SNL Legend!! 👍✊👌👊🍁♈
I'm currently making a documentary about Kevin's hair

Hard to be a good straight man to someone with such unique timing, but Carson nailed it.
It’s weird watching Carson interviewing because it feels like actual casual conversation.
You can’t do that today.

Did he invent the game Would You Rather? 😂
I think so
That last comment seemed to genuinely tickle Johnny
Way better than Billy Crystals first appearance.
I always thought he was good in his supporting roles in television and movies. Recently saw him in Roxanne. He was a supporting actor.

Dang, Michael Landon
Kevin looks younger now almost 40 years later than he did here.
Didn’t have Mr Subliminal yet?
Kevin lucked out there to be invited to sit his first time on the show. he was funnier sitting than standing.
