Hi Dave. Incredible cards. I'll have to watch this over, so that I can write down these 10 video's to watch. Thanks Stephen
I watched a few of those, but not most! Thanks, will check out their channels.👍
Fun video, Dave. There are definitely some great collections/cards on RUclips… thanks for including my Diaz WaJo!
👍
Awesome cards and recommendations. Thank you so much for making this video.
Yea sir!
This was great Dave. A Top 10 that really means something. Thanks.
Thank YOU Otto!!
What a great idea for a video - enjoyed your details about each card! Thanks Dave!! I never knew a '47 Berra even existed.
It’s a neat card Jeff! Thanks
This was a really great idea for a video. I really enjoyed. I believe I’ve seen a lot of these but it’s going to be fun to go back and watch again.
Thanks , those are great cards and RUclipsrs
Love your videos. Keep it up! 👍
Thank you!!
Nice want list! Collected the baker Cobb and wags in EX condition, the CJ Cobb and Jackson in VG/EX condition 52 Mantle in a 7 and tons of Cobbs and Ruth’s including pitching many wags too! and only a pin prick of what collected back in the day. sold them all about 20 years ago started all over again and have some nice stuff again!
Excellent. You’re not the first person who built up an amazing collection then started all over. It’s fun to collect!
Really great idea for a video! Silver Jackify's Cap Anson video is one of those videos I randomly will think about and go back and search for/watch from time to time. Thanks for bringing these to light!
It was fun Chris!
Haha was hoping I might have a card that would make it! Figured if any card had a chance it would be the Cap! Thank you for inspiring me on my next video!
It’s freaking amazing
That general baking cobb is nuts
Right?!
I think there’s one in REA that’s pretty beat up
Thank you, Dave. Again, another great learning experience. That Cap Anson card is insanely beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Gary!
I remember when Joe posted that Cap Anson card I was blown away. What a beautiful card! Love that card and on my list in any grade. I think he got it at the National 2018, wherever that was. Thanks for the video Dave!
Joe’s card is awesome!!!
Wowzers! Every one of them are beautiful and dream cards for me! My favorite is the Goodwin Champion Cap Anson! Love the King Kelly from that set too!
Awesome video Dave and you gave me a few new channels to follow!
Oh good- yes check them out Jim!
Dave, I can understand your special desire for the 1949 Leaf premium of Babe Ruth with a blue background. Especially so if most of the other Ruth premiums had a different color background. This kind of difference makes for a strong allure.
However, I do think you should be particularly pleased with your own Leaf premium of immortal Christy Mathewson. Most cards of Matty were small, though the T3 and Sporting Life premiums were giant by comparison, but in a very attractive way. My point is simply that your Leaf premium of Big 6 is extremely eye appealing as a gorgeous, well-designed card of him. THAT LOOKS SHARP, my man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dave, you alluded to a controversial topic among serious or advanced collectors. We have some younger, very affluent collectors paying enormous money for unproven athletes on manufactured scarcities. Beautiful cards--yes. Scarce cards---yes. Even super short prints--yes. Be that as it may, paying 5-6 figures of money for a rare card of the next Clint Hartung (I really show my age, or history knowledge with that name) or Brien Taylor is reckless, smacking of irrational exuberance. Any of you reading can rattle off 10 names of majorly-hyped 21st Century prospects put on a trading card of all 4 major sports. Then some collector pays more for it than I ever earned in a single year. What are they thinking?
Gambling, period.
Once in a blue moon, there finally comes along a vintage card such as that PLOW'S Candy Honus Wagner. Beautiful black n' white card of the immortal Honus Wagner. The horizontal format shows great action. This card IS rare as hen's teeth. Yet, it "only" went for mid-$300,000. What would our young entrepreneur collectors think of it? They wouldn't. The card would fly right over their heads. The auction page would be turned or flipped over to get to the modern cards. Too esoteric. Probably, IF you think esoteric means not worth learning about.
It's kinda the same mentality, to a point, regarding collecting Mickey Mantle. You have the basic 21-gum salute by Topps and Bowman. You have all the other gum cards of Mick issued with the basic cards. Then you have all the Topps test issues and the regional / food issues. Then you have the team issue photos, or photo pack photos. Collectors like doing sets or runs, so by the time most Mickey Mantle collectors complete that basic 21-gum salute, they've run out of hobby money!
When it comes to the Topps test issues and regional / food issues, most collectors stay away. Returning to my phrase, "to a point", there has risen up a few more hobbyists for which the other, tougher, Mickey Mantles have seemed to draw their utmost attention, AND RESPECT. It IS a cardboard conundrum. Collectors will always have different likes and dislikes, the same as they do for the respective sports themselves. Whether it's the sport, the teams, the players, eras, gum cards, regional / food issues. Of course, a little secret is the afiicionadoes of the Mickey Mantle regional / food issues and Topps test issues would rather all the other Mantle Maniacs strictly collect the simple easy-weezy gum cards. A la "it's what's good for you; besides, deep down, I don't want any more competition for those tougher Mantles!!!"
What's hot; what's not. It draws to mind that scene from the timeless film, "It's a Wonderful Life". Recall the neighbor we see watching George Bailey and Mary Hatch talking with each other at length; finally, tired of the situation not getting amorous, he blurts out, "Why doncha kiss her instead of talking her to death!!". My point is the neighbor's frustrated punch line----"Oh, youth is wasted on the wrong people." Thus, if you or I had the money of some of these deep-pocketed Millennials, we most assuredly wouldn't have paid the $470,711.50 that some schmuck did on March 4, 2022 for a 1 of 1 NFT 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle from Topps' new timeless NFT Collection. Incidentally, this is the SECOND highest anyone has ever paid for a sports NFT.
See what I mean?
Can you imagine? Paying such a princely price of $470,000 for a digital baseball card? Whether or not the buyer was a Millennial I cannot say. Whether the buyer was young, or not, what I can say, in the spirit of that guy from "It's a Wonderful Life", ----OH, WEALTH IS WASTED ON THE WRONG PEOPLE!
All the best to you, sir. Thanks for the video.
Brian I can’t tell you how much I enjoy hearing from you and your priceless insights and observations. Your wealth of knowledge is so impressive and appreciated. Keep in mind whenever I make a video I’m always wary not to over step my bounds for fear of getting “ called out” by the master.
Perhaps someday if a dare more complex videos, I could have you on for an interview.
Happy Easter my friend!
Dave
@@Bluejacket66 Thank you for the kind words, Dave. I am no master, but I know a few things. Honestly, I would be honored and delighted to be interviewed by you. Now that I'm retired, let's do that some day! Happy Easter to you as well, my friend. -- Brian Powell
That was awesome Dave! Such amazing cards and so much to learn. As always, thanks for sharing!
Fun making it Reese!
Thanks for putting this together Dave - some mind-blowing cards here.
👍👍👍
This was so awesome Dave. Thanks for all your hard work putting this together. Amazing!
Hope all is well on the west coast Tony
@@Bluejacket66 All is well here Dave, thanks. Hope with you also my friend.
Thanks for putting this one together Dave. Love all the details. Some of my favorite youtubers too!
Those guys are awesome!!
Awesome video Dave.. I appreciate all the informative prewar knowledge you share.. Congrats on your Frenchie pups and was hoping to get a peek at them..🤔😍😉 Take care..👍💕🔥👊
I have 3 of them Jackie 😳😩
Some INSANE stuff in there. Some great channels to be shouting at as well. If anyone hasn't checked them out, they should!
Thanks for putting this one together Dave!
They are gotta watch!
Now I know what advanced collector means. That was a most enjoyable visit to your RUclips top 10 wish list. Thanks for putting this together and sharing. I just went to my first show at Chantilly since 2019 National, after surviving sticker shock, picked up a 1922 American Caramel E121 G. C. Alexander but was just as happy to pick up some inexpensive star Post Cereal and Jello cards, your influence.
Thanks Larry- congrats on the Alexander!!! He should be collected with a lot more reverence than he is
Loved this video Dave. Some really great cards and youtubers featured. That Plows Candy Wagner is bananas 🍌
Hi Andy
Hope to see you soon!
Thanks for sharing this video. All great cards. I knew about some of the cards. No matter what cards you have, there is always cards to go after if you choose to do so
Yep chris!
This was a fun video with unbelievable dream cards! I’m with you on Herbert. Insane!
Thanks John!
Great video Dave! Those are all such epic cards! Thanks for putting these together into a single video. Also, thanks for another fantastic video.
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed
Dave, great episode!! Before I commented, i watched the Plows candy interview with Gary Simpson, what an educational episode. Thank you for sharing that, I always love learning more about the history of baseball and the cards that display it!!!! Dave
Thanks for watching that!! I need to watch it again. I was blow away
Dave, love your passion for these epic cards! What a great way to pay tribute to some awesome collectors as well! Really cool! I can safely say I know virtually nothing about prewar cards!
Haha it’s really hard!!!
Great video once again, always love the info you give, helps me to be a better collector!
I appreciate it!!!
Joe's Cap Anson is the Holy Grail for me and I've told him that. Incredible Card...
It’s crazy great
Great video and thank you Dave for the shoutout. You're the reason I started my RUclips channel, I've been a fan of your videos for a while now. Your extensive knowledge and outstanding collection is something I wanted to emulate.
Congrats on the great collection!!
Great video. Seeing cards I have never seen before has really amped up my excitement for vintage
👍
You’re videos never disappoint! Extremely entertaining to watch and learn about these cards. Can’t wait to see the card you bought recently in the new video hopefully!
Try to do it soon…
Great video Dave; you are so right concerning the inability to master and the constant learning of vintage cards; this is what collectors love; the ‘49 Leaf Premiums are really nice oversized cards but the most “gorgeous “ oversized cards in my opinion are the T3 Turkey Reds; these are some of the most aesthetically pleasing cards ever made; be well and stay safe!
Mark I agree on the T3.
I remember when my dad was doing that set sometime in the late 70s. I ordered him one out of a magazine for $20
Appreciate the shoutout Dave, and love those Plow's Candy cards ever since I learned about them from you. Thanks!
Hi Alex
Great video Dave! I’m sure that took a lot of time and research to put together. All of those cards are fantastic!
I didn’t need research at all John! I remembered the cards. It does take me awhile to edit the video with pics which I hate doing!!
Great video! Per usual, I always learn something. If I made a video like this, your Plow’s Ty Cobb would be my #1
Thanks Jeff. You and I are in the same page
Dave your videos are best vintage card videos I've ever seen, I thoroughly enjoy your cards, presentations, and info
Thanks Michael!!
Incredible list there Dave. Difficult to beat those card sets for pre-war and vintage issues.
Thank you!
Great video. Who is "The Collector" on RUclips that you referenced? Could you add a link to his/her channel?

@@Bluejacket66 Much thanks
Great video ese!!!
Hi Pepe. Bust time for you I know
I wish I knew more about the older cards like all the Ts out there. I don’t own any and have tried to learn but I get so confused. Great cards and awesome video brother
It’s very confusing Jimmy!
A great go to resource is the website “ oldcardboard”
Great way to pay tribute to fellow RUclipsrs collections a big time key card additions 👍🏽
👍
Thanks Dave, for the shoutout. When I sell the Blue Ruth, you get first chance at it. Would like you to have it!
Cheers Orlando!!
You know you’re talking about some cool vintage when ya show the Leaf Premium box bottom of Babe Ruth and even you weren’t aware of it! 👍👍👍
Yeah I’ve never seen that before.. it’s so cool
What a great idea for a video. I’m always trying to think of a idea for a video. The card that sticks out is the Diaz Johnson. I’d take any card from the set. The card I’ve never seen before is the Diaz Grover Alexander. I don’t even know what it looks like.
His story on getting that card is equally as thrilling
Dave, I know you don't like making videos, but you hit a homerun every time. This one may be out of the stadium. Really fun to watch!
Thanks Mike, appreciate the encouragement
Another great video. I appreciate the kind words my friend. Excited for you to share the new add.
Sorry about mixing your Croft’s with dockman ! Most wouldn’t know the difference I guess😂
@@Bluejacket66 exactly and not a problem at all my friend.
Lol. WTF. I love this holier than thou speech needed to be endured first.
Thanks for watching!
That Plow's Wagner is unbelievable. The Plow's Cobb would be nice to hold too.
I’ll say!!
Great video, and yes I was fascinated by video on Plows Candy but I looked and looked for the book and could not find it. Any idea on where I could find it?
I don’t. Good idea I’ll look for it. I have to watch that video again, maybe I missed something
I’m interested in that book as well! Keep us posted with any info
Great Video Dave! By the way, do you know anything about the 1937 Lindt Sprungli Cards?
Zero!! Never heard of it🤷♂️
Andrew also has the D304 Cobb...PSA 1 I think?
I would not doubt it Vince

And thanks for those links, I’m too lazy to have done that!!
Excellent video. I would be curious to see you do something you like doing if you don’t like making videos. ;)
I like playing pickleball😀
I had the Wagner in a PSA 2 and sold it in 2002, regret that and selling PSA 5 Walter Johnson portrait because I was more into 50s and 60s Hofers
Don’t sell prewar HOFS…. ever
@@Bluejacket66 1999-2002 on eBay I could buy McGraw, Chance, evers, ... All the Hofers In PSA 3 , 4,5 all day long for under 300. I sold everything to Mr. Mint at a Pittsburgh show in 2005 to pay off $15000 in school loans
In 2000 or 2001 I paid 500 for the Walter Johnson PSA 5, today smr is 5000
My new collecting goal…Buy a card that would make your part 2
I’ll give you some suggestions of course!!!
Mike, I was fully expecting your name to show up.
Frenchy pups ?
I have 3 French bulldogs🤷♂️
@@Bluejacket66 that’s awesome I just didn’t know what you meant when you said that, my aunt has one……..that poor baby has more allergies than any person I know but she gives the best cuddles in the world
Good selections...but you're still mispronouncing Honus. Think honest.
Nope!
Listen to the man himself!!!
