Freddy Fender was an American Tejano, country & rock & roll musician, known for his work as a solo artist and in the groups "Los Super Seven" & the "Texas Tornados". He was best known for his 1975 hits "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" & a remake of "Wasted Days & Wasted Nights". But he had some other great songs such as "Secret Love", "You'll Lose A Good Thing", "Since I Met You Baby", "Vaya Con Dios", "Livin' It Down" &"The Rains Came".
I Love My Rancho Grande was our family tune. Tejanos of course and Freddy was our king, lol. My grandfather had a band back in the 70s and most of the songs were Freddy's. My grandmother didn't know much English but could sing all the English parts of his songs.
Quite possibly one of the most underrated and underappreciated voices in any music genre. This guys emotion alone would pull you in. Love this song. Thank you for this reaction. Keep it up family
That's right! I think the younger generation is surprised that we grew up with MANY mainstream hits with Spanish words/verses . We knew all the words , as natural as breathing. Thank You Shawn and Mel, for reminding us of our rich and many faceted American culture. 🥰❤ 🇺🇸 🥰💃🎵
I'm from the Caribbean and Freddie Fender was no 1 listen to his music. We all song in Spanish and English it brings tears to my eyes my heart so full my mom and I dance it together
Oh I love Freddie Fender boy guys you going back old school Country with Freddie and Loretta love it love love it …. This is the country my daddy raised us on
I can see my dad uncle Jesse Bob Reyes and a few others whose name escape me sitting outside drinking a few and playing this. Memories of my childhood.
A native of San Benito, Texas. His real name is Balthemar Huerta! Amazing voice! I believe he was also part of the Texas Tornadoes. Check them out. Love from San Antonio, Texas. 💖💖💖
His songs were on the Top 40 stations plus the country stations and he was always a guest on the weekend Country music programs on TV. He crossed a lot of genre boundaries back then. My Dad (big country music fan) bought that album.
I inherited that album from my Mom. I've loved it since it first came out. When I first started buying my own records, I got this album on cassette. Later, I bought the cd. Today, the album is in my downloads on the RUclips app. Every once in awhile, though, I will dust off the ol' stereo, crank up the volume, and play this album...for the nostalgia from hearing the scratches and other imperfections. It's old, but has never skipped.
This song brings back so many memories of my childhood in The Rio Grande Valley (RGV) listening to Conjunto Music. Every time I go visit my parents it never gets old seeing Freddie’s face on the side of the water tower. East of San Benito, there’s a town called Los Fresnos. My dad was friends with Simon Vega, one of Elvis army buddies, who built Little Graceland. Mr. Vega used to talk about how Elvis would sometimes make his way down to South Texas just to get away from the spotlight. If you have a chance, check out “Serving with the King” by Simon Vega.
Even though I don't speak or understand a word of Spanish I used to sing the song word-for-word including the Spanish words when I heard this song on the radio when I was a teenager.
Lost my dad 3 years ago. We used to jam to Freddy. My grandparents were from Mexico and Freddy was the thing for us Tejanos. We listened to and sang I LOVE MY RANCHO GRANDE all the time... Up until my papi passed away.
Ohhh, now this is getting back there. One of my Grandmommas favorites. She was a Freddy Fender, Charlie Rich, Charlie Pride , and Conway fan. The radio was always on in the background at grammys house.
I met Freddy Fender when I was a little girl. He played a private party for my grandaddy. I love the songs Secret Love, Wasted Days & Wasted Nights, You'll Lose A Good Thing, and Since I Met You Baby
I grew up in the 79s, driving with my dad he had this and others on 8 Track tapes, from Michigan down to Kentucky we'd listen to these several times during the trips. thanx for reminding me and bringing back such sweet memories
I heard this on the radio earlier today driving down the highway and I thought, "Shawn and Mel need to hear this." And here you are listening to it!! 😊
As mentioned here Freddy would later join forces with Flaco Jiménez, Augie Meyers, and Doug Sahm to form The Texas Tornados. They recorded two versions of all their albums, one in English and one in Spanish. Their Tex-Mex style was well received, and they were one of the most popular bands in Latin America at one point.
Grew up in Texas. Grandparents were from Mexico. Freddy was my abuelo and abuelitas favorite. And they bought everything he did in English and Spanish. I think that's partly how I learned Spanish- thanks Freddy Fender!!! Who needs Rosetta Stone...lol And my dad and grandparents of course...
This song came out when I was in middle school. I was in the school choir and I loved to sing anything by Freddy Fender! Just imagine, Stone Middle School, Huntsville, Alabama, 1972 through 1974! I wanted to sing just like Freddy Fender, had no idea what he was singing about in Spanish. In 2006 at the age of 44, here in Santa Cruz, California, I enrolled in a local community college just to study Spanish and became fluent! Watching this video tonight, I started crying. Music is wonderful! Again, I love your channel so much. You guys are the best.
As a product of this time, Freddie Fender, Chico & the man, & Ponch from Chips were my childhood crushes. All fabrics of this great nation were fully represented in the 70’s post-civil rights and we embraced it all. Then the powers that be saw we got along too well and worked to decide us. I wish everyone could have experienced the 70’s & 80’s. It was a beautiful time in life. Before the internet and we all just made great music and did what we loved. Something anyone past Gen X will never understand.
This brings back memories. As a child, back in the 70s, Freddy Fender was one of the many cassettes my father played in the Dodge station wagon on long road trips. This was one of my mom's favourite songs.
I have always loved his music. This is what we call belly rubbing music down in Texas, referring to dancing (get your mind out of the gutter Shawn lol). It's about dancing! Haha A beautiful song to dance to. Lord, I miss dancing. My husband passed a couple of years ago so I have no one to dance with now ... except for when I can catch my son in the kitchen!
Oh wow. I have requested this from so many reactors but most do not check it out. So glad you guys did, you react to songs I have never seen other reactors listen to. Great job!!!
I love that y'all did at Freddy Fender reaction I never saw that one coming. I love this song it reminds me of my father it will always remind me of my father.
You two are just wonderful. You listen to all genres of music and are so open to anything. And you truly listen to what the words are expressing. Thank you and keep going.
My Uncle that raised me used to put me on his feet and dance with me to this song. It brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear this song. It will forever be written on my heart
Hey! While he had a solo career for years, Freddy also performed in "super groups". The Texas Tornadoes , in my opinion, was the best of these. The music was a regional blend known as Tex-Mex that the Tornadoes carried to all corners of the world. The Tornadoes consisted of Doug Sahm and Augie Meyers (The Sir Douglas Quintet), world renown accordionist, Leonardo "Flaco" Jimenez and my boy, Freddie (real name: Baldemar Huerta). U wanna experience culture thru music? Check out the "The Texas Tornadoes"
This reminds me of my childhood looking out of my bedroom window while my mom was playing his in the 70s on her 8 track player tape in Rumball Terrace while neighbors gathered to hear. Thank you 😊
I used to go to this tiny hole in the wall in SF to watch him sing with his good friend Flaco Jiminez whenever they came into town which was actually quite often. My boyfriend and I danced up a storm 😅
You guys gotta do Wasted Days And Wasted Nights next. It's the first song I ever heard from Freddy Fender and that was it, I was in love
Great song, huge hit.
If I remember correctly I read somewhere that wasted days and wasted nights is actually connected to before the next teardrop Falls
This was our theme song for Civics class in high school. Lol. 1977
Great suggestion!
Yes 👏

I do believe he spent time in Angola. After he got out he did alot of charity work for cons in county jails and parolees.
My baby always,. Love you Freddy. Saw him 3. Times at gilleys club. In Houston. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Thank you guys,. I love. You 2. 💞💞💞💞💞

We all learned Spanish that year!!! (nothing racist) we love Freddie, sometimes so underrated!!!

This song was huge when I lived in Arizona, where many people spoke Spanish. It really is a beautiful song.
I heard this on the radio earlier today driving down the highway and I thought, "Shawn and Mel need to hear this." And here you are listening to it!! 😊

Huge hit back in the day! My wife's Uncle sang this song at every dance we played. He did the Spanish lyrics also and people were shocked, lol.
He was a one of a kind. Glad you'll liked songs I listened to myself yrs ago
