    Good video. Mid 2023 I had what I thought was depression. Mentally couldn't stay focused at work, had zero motivation to do anything. Mowing the lawn required a full week to psych myself up, gained a ton of weight. Went to the Dr and had the full blood work done. I was well below the normal level. Been on trt for a year and mentally it's a game changer. When asked how I feel my response is "normal, I feel normal" You don't realize how good normal feels when you are down and out for a long time.

    I “don’t care” if anyone at a mass participation event I am it is using TRT. I “do care” that low testosterone is not well understood as a cause for poor mental health in men, nor as a potentially important part of HRT in women. So kudos for continuing to raise awareness of the “non-gym-bro” indications for TRT.

      It’s also important to have a good doctor who root causes. My T was sub 100, took over 6 months to root cause a pituitary tumor. Now I take a tiny pill (not TRT) that rebalanced my hormones and drastically changed my life.

    I’m an endocrinologist and I need to clarify a misconception online about TRT. The acronym is pretty clear, it is testosterone replacement. It is a form of hormone replacement for when you are deficient. This term should not be used when testosterone is being given supraphysiologically. Whilst the long term use of TRT and its complications are a little unclear, supraphysiological use is definitely associated with many complications. I am seeing an increasing number of younger men coming in with an inability to make their own testosterone due to exogenous use. This has implications for fertility.
    However, on a wider level its use in social media is giving an unrealistic expectation of what the body can achieve, especially when people claim to be natural. It is affecting a generation of young people and making them feel inadequate.

    • @user-sq6sw1pr9b
      @user-sq6sw1pr9b 26 дней назад

      Do tell me, what were the upper reference ranges for testosterone levels 50 years ago as opposed to now? Women's HRT is supported, mens HRT is demonised.
      You're an endocrinologist, well, that's about as much use as tits on a bull when it comes to male hormones. Sadly, it seems endocrinologists care, just not about male health.
      Ive experienced *healthcare* under endocrinologists: the lack of care when it comes to men with low testosterone was and is disgusting.

      @@angrydoc4769 those young people are beyond help anyway. Online porn has ruined a generation. Prescriptions for Viagra and similar in men under 40 has skyrocketed. This isn’t normal. That and the legions of mostly autistic teenage girls being gaslit into thinking they were “born In the wrong body” that last one and the USA’s “affirmative care” model is a bigger medical scandal than lobotomies.

      Spot on, I don't mind anyone doing TRT, meaning replacement therapy, I'm all for it.
      However, on social media, what most of those influencers are doing has nothing to do with therapy, they are blasting vastly higher amounts into their system, sometimes tenfold, often accompanied by other substances, but pretend it's just medical therapy, it's not.
      The industry is targeting young naive people that as a result, feel inadequate and potentially permanently harm their health both physically and mentally. This is terrible.

After watching an earlier video of yours about trt I started my own investigation, we're around the same age, I had some of the symptoms and had really just put it down to old age creeping in. GP told me not to worry so I went private. My test was low, very low and without any other underlying medial conditions. Once I started trt I found myself again, I feel normal again like I used to. 1) appreciate your openness and broadly agree on most of your points
    2) Testosterone levels decrease roughly by 1% per year after around 40 - medically setting it to a fixed level gives people on TRT a physical benefit vs placebo on average - fact
    3) I agree there is no perfect solution - personally I'd be in favor of an honor system where e.g. your Hyrox score were visible but there would be a leaderboard toggle eg natural/TUE/PED/used PED in the past/etc. Like with age groups - it's nice to see the total ranking and also to see one's age group ranking. Peer pressure would do a reasonable job in ensuring athletes pick the right category, and it would be a lot cheaper / feasible

    I’m in my late 40’s and like others who’ve commented here I spent nearly 2yrs suffering with depression and poor mental health. I did everything I could to address it; nutrition, sleep, exercise, meditation, counseling and numerous antidepressants (some of which made me feel worse). Finally took the plunge and had several blood tests done. Turns out I had very low levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) which resulted in Low Testosterone. After a week or so with hCG injections the results were remarkable. It’s fair to say that along with the support of my wife and friends it saved my life. Now I’m not quick enough to worry about getting on a podium, I may make it into the top 10 at my local parkrun but it depends on the day.
    My running performance in fact has gone down since I started therapy, as I’ve gained some muscle and am therefore heavier so a little slower but that’s ok. My mental, physical and sexual health are now much better (not perfect but on the right path). I am in the I care a lot camp. I used to be a competitive archer. I had to stop because I had to make a choice between having a treatment for cluster headache migraines or competting. The only treatment that does anything is a banned substance. With it I can function. Without it I could spend months in agonizing pain. Not easy to compete when your migraine is so bad that you loose your vision and collapse to the ground. But one of the side effects of my meds is that it reduces involontary tremor, and that is a huge advantage in my sport. So I stopped practicing. I teached for a while but competition at reasonably high level was what was driving me. Performance are definitivly enhanced to a very signifi ant level by drugs. And competing using those drugs is not only against the rules of the sports, it is very unfair to people who strugle without the substances. I don't want to win against a kid who trained hard taking advantage of my disability medication side effects. And participaying in lower level non testing competitions is just cheating as well.
    And same goes with TRT. There is no denying it helps a lot people who need it. But there is no denying it boosts performances.

    I watched your discussion with Sir Steve Redgrave, and after a conversation with my wife, decided to get my testosterone levels checked. This was not about appearance or performance, but about my mental health (lethargy and mood swings). I was impressed with the process, which was very thorough, with two blood tests and a 30 minute appointment with a doctor, before any medication was prescribed. My results were very low and I am now on TRT. If there are performance gains, I am yet to see them. Physically I still look like a 52 year old man who has only taken an interest in fitness over the past year. Mentally, I still have bad days, but I would say that these are nowhere near as bad as they have been and are now significantly outnumbered by the good ones.
    I had never considered that me taking a medication to move myself into the normal range would be considered cheating, but if it bothers someone that the old bloke jogging around a course and finishing in an average time is a cheat, then it probably says more about them than me, I think.

Turns out it is relatively high for my age, maybe I’m just a grumpy old prick.

    What bothers me is all the RUclipsrs who insist on getting their test levels checked when there's literally nothing wrong. It's like going to get an MRI for views. The latest one to piss me off is Goal Guys. "I want to lose 10lbs, maybe I better check my testosterone levels." And then the comments are full of idiot kids saying his numbers are low.
    Then there's the Huberman crowd that insists they need to follow an 80 step routine every morning or their testosterone will plummet. Annoys me to no end when I see a fit RUclipsr make a video of them waking up at dawn to go stare at the sun for 20 minutes so they get that .03 boost to their test levels.

    Care a lot. I use the same clinic as you Mark to get to a normal range. The 40 plus men that could benefit from this and improve their lives is significant. For amateur sport there are many ways people have advantages over others, more money, more time, better genetics. I would say Hyrox may be better expanding the policy. If you wish to appear in official leagues/results you need to submit a sample. For those on the podium it would be worth it, for everyone else they can just enjoy their own performance.

    Absolutely fine for someone with abnormally low levels to take TRT to bring it up to normal levels. That's just medical.
    I judge the hell out of guys who already have healthy levels but take it to get huge or to eek out a couple percentage points of performance.

I exercise a lot, and just want to be able to keep doing so for as long as possible (ideally until I hit 100 years, then I might take a break!) what are the long term effects of taking TRT? do the benefits outweigh the disadvantages for someone of a 'seasoned' age like me? Hey Mark, I always enjoy your content but this video triggered me a little bit. For a while, I have been thinking of doing TRT. I was tested last year and I am in the 400 range which I think is not a bad number. The only reason I thought of doing it it's because I want to look more muscular. I have been very consistent in gym life for more than 5 years, but I think I started my gym journey too late (29 years old). I had someone at my current gym that was the perfect muscular guy and he pushed me to do TRT. Fast forward to now, I didn't do it because I don't want to be dependent of something for the rest of my life. At the same time, I am with depression meds and I've tried stopping twice and it didn't go well.
    Anyway, just thought of sharing my story. I am a gay man and I am surrounded by social media that shows muscular guys and it seems that if I don't look like that I will never be able to find a partner and build a family.
    Thank you for your words!

    My story is very similar to yours--I used to be over 300 pounds and over 10 years, got down to 170 (I'm 5'8"). At the end of my weight loss, I felt worse mentally than I ever had (my wife was actually the one to make me recognize how "off" I was behaving--depressed, angry, unmotivated, etc). I got tested and was diagnosed as hypogonadal and was prescribed test. It has been absolutely life-changing for me. My concern is the normalization of anabolics across the whole population. We've all seen the number of Jack3d teens in the gym multiply every few months and I'd bet a LOT of them are on gear. I'm completely open when people ask me about my workout routine, etc... but I'm worried this open-ness across the fitness world has changed the expectations for what is achievable naturally and that TRT has opened the door much wider to what is seen as "normal" behavior. "Everyone is on TRT, so what's the problem with one "small" cycle?".

    • @awaken69
      @awaken69 Месяц назад

      Actually, there is NO problem with a properly designed and monitored “small cycle”. The problem is the lack of knowledge how to do a proper cycle, what exactly to use (and more importantly NOT to use) and how much, and how to get off the cycle. So the actual problem is stigmatisation, crappy underground ‘roids, and no coaching / heath monitoring by a professional specialized in steroid use. I’m strongly in favor of the right of people to do with their body what they wish to do. But there must be proper guidance and harm reduction. Its exacly the same with plastic surgery. You wouldnt go to a underground “surgeon” who has no clue what he is doing to fix your nose - would you? Same with steroid use. Properly done, with a specific goal in mind (say, gaining 8kg of muscle for example) the risk is almost nonexistent.

With my Maintanance cals being 2379, I have put this up to 2400-2500 as I train 6 days a week ( was on 4000 when training for the Triple!) . Along with lots of dog walking etc. I am 67kg 5'7 bloke. If you take drugs and compete, then your a cheat period. It annoys me I don't look a certain way, but I'm not going down to 2000cals for a six pack, performance over aesthetics. I took Testrx. Not currently taking it. I am currently taking ashwagandha. I take creatine and other supplements that I think are beneficial to my health. I'm working on losing weight now after eating as much as I wanted since May of 2020 when I started weight lifting. I did a short diet during that time when I worked with a trainer. It was at least three months. I don’t remember the exact time frame. I think my results are good. I am not very strong according to online strength standards which is why I was wondering if it was low. I am happy with the way I look. I just need to lose enough body fat. I want an athletic look and think I currently have enough muscle to get that look after losing enough body fat. I am age 43. I think age would be relevant. For some reason everyone on the internets forgot that TRT treats low testosterone for the purposes of restoring it to normal levels, not just taking non-needed medication to get jacked out of your mind (also a lot of people that are jacked out of their mind are not just on Testosterone, but other even more potent drugs). My personal belief is that a lot of people have no idea how powerful testosterone is and how many processes it regulates, given that you have a "healthy" and somewhat "normal" body you would not want to have to think about the downstream side effects of an injection you take twice a week, especially if it is just in the name of looking good.

Frankly, I put off starting TRT for at least 2 years because any time I did any research into it, all I saw was people who worship the J*rdan P*tersons and Andr*w T*tes of this world - people I have zero in common with or respect for - claiming it was a silver bullet that any man simply HAD to have.
    And it was only when I saw your videos - an ordinary bloke who was clearly not caught up in that bullshit version of modern masculinity pushed by shills like those mentioned above - that I felt ok about talking to my doctor and asking for help.

    I am wondering if it is like HRT, which I take because my hormones are low, but they dont give you massive amounts, just enough to get you to the low end of the scale. I had more hormones in my contraceptive pill 15 years ago. So my take on guys taking TRT because they test under the low range is that it probably only takes them to within the low range or mid range, whereas your guy bro's are putting TRT on top of probably mid to high range so getting the boost out of it. taking hormones to feel 'normal' is massively different IMO.
