Anime background artists are amazing! I can't even imagine how much practice they needed to get this good, that means I just have more people to look up to now and to try to reach their level!
Background painters are actually hella underrated! They have to match the perspective with characters, objects etc. Not to forget that they have to fill a whole page for every frame in for example Animes that have incredible animation with great art and many frames a second, so respect to background painters! ^^
Most of the time, backgrounds in animes aren't moving that's why they can be rendered beautifully it's not like backgrounds are drawn in each frames which will be extremely hard unless its CGI. If they are to put a moving thing example a rising sun, it will be in another layer separate from the background but blended to fit. But I agree that background artists deserves more cause they have a huge contribution to an animes overall look.
Yep, they are amazing. And it’s crazy that Oga Kazuo seems to be the only real famous one. Though, I think his Ghibli works made the style even more famous. So he deserves a lot of credit for it
Looks like Nicker poster paint… not cheap especially with import fees, but it’s pretty widely used in Japan by anime studios as it is made there. Also the brush ruler technique is called “Mizo biki” I have searched this over many years and it’s hard to find these tools and techniques outside of Japan
Yeah, the Nicker seems to be pretty expensive if you want them overseas. I assume they’re a lot cheaper in Japan. Some brands are pretty affordable over here, I’ve seen a set of Sakura poster paint, maybe I will test it on the channel 😁 also loved to read your comment, it’s crazy that you know how the technique is called 😮 awesome stuff
once i thought about doodling little stories, but just the backgrounds are so hard... often harder than a charackter u draw many times, becuase backgrounds are often complete new. xD nice video btw ^^
Haha yeah 😁 I feel you kinda have to decide if you are more of a background or figure kinda artist. But some are really good at both 😅 that’s crazy, I’m definitely more of a figure drawing guy
All this with just paint and no sketch. It takes me some days when I draw backgrounds and I usually just rip the page out because of how bad it turned out. This is some next level stuff.
It's really nice to see that professionals are using cheap paints. I hand painted a reproduction anime cel from Evangelion (my favorite anime) just last week and used what were quite literally the cheapest paints I could buy. ($0.50 US per bottle)
I own the nicker poster colour, I pay about 160.00 USD for 36 colours so I wouldn't say "super cheap" that's disingenuous. The painting technique to use these paints are exactly as showcased and how I learned how to paint. You paint from side to side and connect everything in an abstract way you can't really work on small parts we have to work before the paint dries. The wet paper is to give it a blurry look for background.

Yep, probably takes decades 😁 also the amount of backgrounds you have to paint for a single movie is insane to me

@@modauth yes! Ghibli has a lot of frames wich leads to a lot of backgrounds, not to forget Oga uses pretty cheap paint!

Why would anyone do that, what’s the point? You’re missing half the information.
Poster paint isn't what you think, it's Poster Colour more of a gouache like paint not the crappy tempura poster paint you think it is

@@DigitalViscosity how would you say Nicker paint is compared to Himi paint?
They do such an incredible work in so little time...+
It's been too long nice to see you again
Bro don't feel soo bad you don't usually draw background
Please, check the price of Nicker Poster Colours and say again this is cheap
Poster colours are cheap!!!? Come on!
They’re probably cheap in Japan bc they’re made there. Of course they’d be more expensive internationally bc of costs to import them
@@kyleh1494 buy local poster colors you don't need those exact paints from Japan.
What
