Synopsis:
Ernest Bliss is a rich young man with too little to do. Not realizing the depression he's in is due to boredom, Ernest consults a doctor. Sir James Aldroyd gives Ernest a prescription that he doesn't think Ernest can fill: Ernest must earn his own living for one year using none of his current wealth. Ernest bets him 50,000 English pounds that he can.

"This is a delightful little film. Something of a forgotten gem.
It lasts only just over an hour. But manages to pack a lot into that hour. It's all perfectly paced, though. It never seems hurried. Cary Grant is just wonderful as the rich but bored Ernest Bliss who goes slumming it on the streets of 1930's London and finds something very special out there. There isn't a dull scene in the film. Nothing is wasted in the effort to entertain. And it all works very well. This is a taster of what was to come from Cary Grant and he is just superb here. He and Mary Brian have excellent chemistry together. This is definitely a little movie worth seeing."

My how movie making has changed. It's so fascinating to see film from the 30's & a bonus to see a fresh faced Cary Grant before his fame. I really enjoyed this but I must confess to being a fan of the movies from yesteryear & sitting all those years ago with my sweet little Nanna watching them while she told me stories of her favorite actors. My young imagination & love of movies was never for want of nourishment thanks to her.

An object lesson on the dangers of affluence which can lead to indolence; and the gradual breakdown of society if it is widespread enough, like in the USA. Working and accomplishing something worthwhile produces an attitude in people that is much more valuable to a nation, self-respect.
