In response to people who say that "you make videos to make money" ... and why not! We all get a lot of value from watching your videos: I hope that you do get some return for all your hard work!
This is a brilliant job. I like the fact that the doomsters have been dealt a body blow . They have no idea how much work and expense goes into this major project . Hats off .
The awful mess made by “professionals” in 1980s is probably why the doomsayers were so negative. Almost anyone else doing this project would have failed long ago.
Absolutely...they are doing a fantastic job...I'm amazed at how they work together working out each problem as it arrises and just get on with it and have fun while they are doing it....👍👍👍
Negative people are so darn negative! You two are a breath of fresh air! As Simon once said, if someone built it, someone can fix it! Or words to that effect😊

@@ShipHappensUK That is totally terrible to read, I think he does a great job, I think the few idiots making bad comments don't add up to all the people making nice comments or giving their best suggestions and loads of people who watch but don't comment. Hi guys, First of all, ignore the negativity from trolls, some people are just born miserable. Secondly, I'm originally from Widnes, on the banks of the Mersey, where i grew up, on, in, and around boats, and as I'm sure you'll know, boating gets into your blood. I love your show, it is the week's highlight for me. I miss boating and your show takes me back to some happy memories. Anyhow, keep up the good work, keep the laughs coming, and let's watch your various boating projects bloom. Good luck guys, all my best wishes going forward .
Ignore the dissenters, they can never see just how much effort you put into this project for little, comparative financial reward. In any case, what does it matter? You are entertaining us every week and slowly but surely bringing Sarinda back to her former glory, if not better than original. Keep up the good work. ❤
I have learned a lot about scarf joints and lamination from English boat building. In the U.S., when I need a bigger piece of wood, I go out back and cut down a bigger tree.
Gday Crew... Great episode guys , cant wait to see it all fitted up...nice job. To the money complainer,,, Im guessing you pay the boss to let you work . Respect....!
You don't have to explain yourselves to anyone, especially those who are so obviously jealous of your lifestyle. I love your videos because you touch the realm of boating I used to be a part of.
How dare commentor(s) acuse you of trying to make money off videos? They have no concept of how much the equipment and time is takes to produce a video. I wish you make a small fortune of money from the videos, because the two of you are top entertainers. I enjoy your style and personality. The videos are both entertaining and educational. And your work is going to be historic restoration of a notable motor vessel. Thank you.

You two are certainly industrious.👍 Just one other comment, before laminating the beam, a stronger ‘join’ would be achieved if each strip was ‘primed’ with epoxy.😀👍
Fantastic first deck beam. Missing Gemma's hair but I understand the reason and it will be mostly grown out towards the end of the project. 100K subscribers is around the corner. Comment people...
You are doing the correct method which I did not use. I got two methods on is using African mahogany solid planks and cut the radius only on the top beam. But I have also used very long Balu 10x10 6 m planks that are straight and I found that I could brace it in the center sufficient to make the radius. Good luck with your method
A suggestion from the extreme most cautious person following your project. I would take that beam out to Sarinda and find a way to thread it through the hull at the widest beam and lift it up against the deck. We know there will be sag in the existing deck beam - so there won't be a perfect match. But just for peace of mind given the great cost of both materials and labor - I would want to make that field check to confirm that the new deck beams match up with what Sarinda's original builders had in mind. 👍
Big beams making your shop feel small. I know that feeling well! Now that’s a nice jig setup. Running it through the planer and watching it come out all beautifully laminated on the other side is one of the best feelings. Good job guys!
I just not try to imagine the smell of that fresh wood, my uncle had a workshop for his company with loads of woodworking machines, I always loved the smell there and made some small money cleaning out the machines of saw dust :-) brings back good memories from my youth
I have been watching you since the day you bought Sarinda, and I love it, what don’t like is that nearly every video you feel the need to have a dig at people, or feel the need to retaliate against people for their negative comments, that just feeds that type of behaviour, I would really suggest not raising to them, your above that and all the people that don’t participate in negativity and there are thousands of us that love this channel, just ignore those people and don’t give them a platform.. ❤
Wax paper. Where you used parcel tape. I used wax paper with forms and epoxy. But I must say if the parcel tape works, you converted me to it. I so enjoy your videos and the woodworking. CHEERS
The fact that you are restoring a great example of Britain's maritime history is amazing. Coupled with the great personal expense is even more amazing. It's a shame that you get negative comments from jealous and bitter people. Ignore the haters and be so proud of what you are achieving.
I wouldn't care if you were making millions out of these videos ,its just marvellously satisfying to see you two doing this work and saving Sarinda .And it is great entertainment

The deck beams were originally that small to get weight out of the boat as they were go fast boats trying to avoid the more heavily armed German E-boats.
Fantastic workmanship Simon & Gemma!! That deck beam would look amazing Laminated for sure Simon. You guys are doing such an awesome job with Sarinda. Wish I could afford to do more than just subscribe but the old age pension doesn't stretch too far these days.
People who make such rude comments are people who are usually lazy jealous folks. That haven't realized if they put their hands to work and made an effort themselves they too can follow a dream but instead they'd rather be a critic and not give encouragement to others who work hard to follow their passions in life. I love what " ship happens "does to share their vision with us, I enjoy your videos every week. So please, keep them coming!
Definitely keep the wood natural with just a couple coats of varnish. The grain is absolutely lovely. Besides, you can show others how much work the two of you have put into Saving Sarinda.
Wow! Stepping through the process of making all the right measurements just to make the proper form is mind-boggling. When Simon set the first laminated beam down on the ground, it 'rang' like a single piece of wood. Brilliant, guys!!
Fantastic explanation about the radius of the deck beam...didn't understand any of it 😂😂...and it went straight over my head ...maths and pattern development was always my weakest subject.. thankfully you both know what you are doing and making a fantastic job of your boat...thanks for the updates...👍👍

From our brief meeting at the boat show I realise just how this project has changed your lives. I watch many videos of sailing, be it restoration, cruising or boat building. I’d love to be a Patreon to all of them but that’s just not possible. Following our meeting I’m now paying a monthly due. It’s not much but lumped in with all the others I hope it helps. Simon added a new meaning to hair brush - so funny. You guys are great but Jemma definitely has the better hair between the two. I could care less if you both made a ton of money because y’all are restoring history and great effort and cost to you. In addition the entertainment value is priceless.
Awesome job guys, that laminated beam turned out brilliantly and will easily distribute any load on it without any problems. Money, I thought you did it because you love tramping in mud, working on wind swept decks in howling gales and driving rain frozen to your bones….. silly me. Keep the faith guys, you’re videos are just down to earth and great value

Definitely varnish those beams that one looks stunning. The variety and contrast in the wood will enhance the whole boat whilst showing the care and love you have put into every part.🤩❤
I'm well happy to see the progress and methods used to overcome the daunting tasks Sarinda's decay has set you with. It's become a "how to save yer boat" made for TV pg rated series with plenty of comedy. Keep up the good work, and the nay sayers can just bugger off elsewhere. 😊😊
The busiest talent you guys have is patience! Well maybe not. You have many other skills too. I just am amazed at how patient you both are in picking away at the renovation.
You wouldn't think that it would be possible to be impressed by a wooden beam but I gotta say that is a really nice beam and I'm very impressed with the way it looks. Excellent work.
Hi Guys, Great watching you do this work it brings back many memories of doing this type of form work in the past myself. Please please put the riving knife and overhead guard on to your panel saw. There is a lot of internal pressure in man-made boards and timber which can cause the material to pinch the blade and create kick back. I was a cabinet maker and it happened to me, even with the riving knife the kick back was enough to dislocate my left thumb so that it pointed back up my arm. As for the overhead guard well that speaks for itself. Be safe please! Your doing such a fantastic job on Serinda moving on so fast. Thank you for such interesting content.
Simon's lack of hair is down to him being a hair donor. Years ago he donated all his to Gemma, and now look at it.... Great work boys and girls, there's nothing like getting the bottom curve right.
I love watching DIY refit/restoration videos of many subjects, but the videos I most look forward to are Ship Happens! You find creative ways to solve problems and have the best “can-do” attitude of any RUclipsrs. But most of all, you’re so much fun to watch! Lovable, entertaining and funny and your husband/wife dynamic is just the most wholesome thing that I see on YT. Keep up the good work and we’ll keep watching out here in RUclipsland!
You could probably reduce the spring back when remove the lamination from the form is you left it a couple of days before removal. I used to laminate archery bow limbs and despite the epoxy being hard after overnight it definitely has not achieved its full cure which would be more like 48 hours at 20c. Most high strength lams are cured at 60degC for 8 to 12 hours and the cure times get exponentially longer as the temp reduces. You are doing a fantastic job and all the glue lam parts you are making are orders of magnitude stronger than the the originals.--- Graeme

Be certain to mark each beam as it comes off your form so all the beams are oriented the same and some aren't flipped end for end. Even though you were very careful making your form, each time you moved your template chances are you made miniscule mistakes that add up each time you moved it. Won't be much, but if you flip a beam end for end from the others it will be slightly off. So, mark one end of your form for port and each beam to match.
By the way, good on you for doing what you’re doing there’s lots of people sit on their backside doing nothing. It’s only people like you getting up and doing something that keeps things like this alive so don’t worry what they say. Just keep doing it Michael for Hampshire

Some people are just never happy 🤷🏻♂️, thanks for the support.
Any thinking person understands this is a labor of love of boats and each other. Keep up the great work
Look forward to every episode keep up the great entertainment ❤
The busiest talent you guys have is patience! Well maybe not. You have many other skills too. I just am amazed at how patient you both are in picking away at the renovation.
Doing a brilliant job. You guys ROCK😊
You wouldn't think that it would be possible to be impressed by a wooden beam but I gotta say that is a really nice beam and I'm very impressed with the way it looks. Excellent work.
Thank you, we think they do look pretty good!
If you would clean up the squeezed out epoxy when it is still uncured it would be less sanding. You guys are amazing!
Great job on the former and first deck beam! You guys are the best! 👏👏
Simon's lack of hair is down to him being a hair donor. Years ago he donated all his to Gemma, and now look at it....
Great work boys and girls, there's nothing like getting the bottom curve right.
Laminating your deck beams is a very sound plan far stronger system by far 👍
Bloody hell that template really gives one an idea of the beam of Sarinda.

Há anos não vejo a hora que chegue sexta feira, para que eu possa assistir o vídeo da semana.

Thank you so much, it makes us so happy and it all worth while when we read comments like this, 👍
Be certain to mark each beam as it comes off your form so all the beams are oriented the same and some aren't flipped end for end.
Very smart people! Nice work..
