100-Inch "TV" | BenQ V7050i UST Ultra Short Throw 4K Projector Review | vs. VAVA

  • In this video, I compare the BenQ V7050i UST 4K Projector vs. the VAVA 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector. I am using the Saker Tab-Tension Motorized Screen by Elite ProAV, (they're part of Elite Screens.) The BenQ can really act as a TV replacement in most situations and is good up to 100 inches. I was extremely impressed with the brightness, color volume, sharpness, and overall picture quality. The only thing that could be better are the black levels, but they are on par with other projectors in this price range. I would also recommend something like the Nvidia Shield for streaming instead of using their included Android TV dongle.

      I really loved the image out of that projector. I ended up returning it because I thought it was a little slow/clunky (which can partially be remedied with firmware) and there were a couple other bugs when making adjustments and I wanted something even brighter for more impactful HDR. The image though, really is nice. For the $3150 they were available for, it’s a stellar value for sure and a food first step into UST for BenQ.

You can tell from their videos that it has a lot of potential, but it seems like something serious and not trivial. • @joentell
      @joentell  2 года назад +1

      It looks like that, but it's tricky to do this perfectly in a normal room because the brighter projector also tends to light up the room more and my walls are light in color and so is the top of the entertainment console. It's possible that the Vava really does have better black levels, but I just want to be clear about the situation and possible factors that could affect it.
      Also, the Elite Screens Cinegrey screen helped with the lifted black levels on the HT3550. I still prefer the TK850 to the 3550 because of the higher lumen output.

    • @joentell

      In a dark room, you will get better screen uniformity with a long throw since the angle of light isn't as extreme. You'll probably get better overall sharpness corner to corner. Brightness and pop will go to the UST with CLR screen. Long throw looks more like a movie theater and UST + CLR looks more like a TV. There's a place for each.

    I don't know if you're allowed to discuss this as I know that manufacturers aren't always receptive to honest media coverage but my number 1 reason for hating these types of projectors is their rude persistence in displacing the center channel speaker location of your home cinema. It is especially annoying to me since this would be the perfect dedicated home theater projector if they designed it to be mounted upside down from the ceiling, because that would eliminate the issue of any dust settling on the lens if you use it for long periods as a tv (which is how I use my current projector). Also ceiling mounting it would allow you to have the coveted 100% stealth installation option with a cove ceiling home cinema room layout or even a retractable ceiling projector mount. Both previously mentioned options allow you to enclose all sides of the projector that are not downward facing with sonex acoustic paneling for true cinema quality sound without the noise floor pollution that even the quietest projector fans still produce. You would think they would understand that if a customer is willing to spend $3,500 on a projector that person is probably the uncompromising type.

    • @joentell
      @joentell  2 года назад +1

      We're allowed to say it all here! That's the point. I've seen some consoles from Salamander Designs which allow for mounting the UST inside. I'm guessing that will allow you to place a center channel above and slightly in front so it doesn't block the light.
      In my old Vava review, I recommended allowing the speakers to be used as a center channel since it was decent. Better than the speakers in this BenQ imo.
      I think hardcore folks might opt for a more traditional ceiling mounted projector.

    • @yamafanboy
      @yamafanboy 2 года назад

      @@joentell That's actually quite brilliant. Thanks! I didn't think of that as a stealth option. It actually will work if the projector fits inside of cabinetry with a cutout for the light source. It would have still been a problem with my SVS ported sub not being able to fit in the space underneath as I have my sub positioned directly under the center channel. However, I was planning to get the KEF KC62 eventually since the size of that sub is a dream come true for me in terms of size vs wow factor. I currently use PSB's imagine mini speakers as my main system speakers. Those speakers are tiny but pack a lot of "wow" for their size as well so the KC62 should be a perfect match visually as well as sound output.

      I bet you haven't tried one of these in a dark room. I have an OLED TV, so I know what this is not. But to say it's not comparable to some of those budget TV's most people get at Costco, I don't agree. What is the cost of a 100" TV of any kind?

    You know joe is excited when he starts to sound like an owl🤣
    They might as well drop the smart system and save $50 maybe even drop the speaker system for an additional $100-200

      Agree with your comments about dropping the smart features and the owl comments! 🦉 Ric Flair "Whooooo!!!!"
