The first and the only who said “sell you pile of shame”. Like for it! All that “good deals” are just waste of space and money, it will take 2 or 3 lives to paint them.
I'm watching this as I'm ordering 4 boxes of star wars legion with 4 unfinished ones on my desk. Trying to plan how to tackle it all as I'm building the pile 😭 I also have some scermish/board game minis to work on too. Great tips man, thanks.
Good points well raised. Selling backlog is a good one as it helps to relieve pressure of models to get through. These days you just have to be careful of the fomo mindset with GW limited runs, most of the contents will be getting split down & most likely you get lumbered another army to deal with you didn't want!
It's a setting that defaults back to on when I change mode on my camera - had to try really hard to remember to turn it off each time 😂 😂 Thanks for the support!
I usually wait a week and the need for whatever is out passes. I’ve been really good with resisting FOMO. I like the specialty models as I like to travel and photograph those as they’re unique. Otherwise I don’t buy much anymore. The shutdowns were great for selling stuff as not much was open except Ebay and the post offices.
That sounds like a good approach to the FOMO thing - I've bought hardly anything this year after trying to be more thoughtful with all purchases. Feel much better for it!
My current plan is to only buy one kit once I've painted two. I've spread myself thin between 3 factions this edition, but I paint each to different standards and it's refreshing to rotate between my battle ready, parade ready and my perfectus armies, it just makes filling out lists take longer.
i just sorted about 3 big boxes of random bits and junk into a load of partitioned trays so they are all organised by category, it took a long time, but now i know exactly where to find anything i need and they are all stored in a neat pile in the same boxes so it just looks nicer too
My pile of shame issue is just that there’s so many other things I want to do more. But I actually did a lot of good work a few years ago and cut it down by 2/3rds. Since then it’s only grown about 2-3 models. I want to make some time to chip at it again, but I think it’s going to need to wait a little longer.
I’ve got a huge Pile Of Potential. I’ve kept a load of it, and I am very very tempted to go back through it and get rid of pretty much anything 40k or AoS. I play and paint exclusively Speciality Games pretty much, so at that point keeping LoTR and Necromunda is a much better idea :) I painted around 900 models last year which was pretty good. But I’ve got 1500+ models in my PoP 🤷♂️😂 we’ll see what happens with my yearly review 😂 I have set myself the goal this year of not buying any models for things I don’t already collect, and so far, I’ve managed that perfectly! 😁
@@DenePaintsThings AHH the joy of selling. If you just want rid of them talk to your makes but if you want some money you got some organising to do to sell them
Shame. My biggest shame is the 50+ board games (mostly war) that are unplayed. And close to twenty on pre-order. Before this year my miniatures were almost exclusively GHQ micro armor though I did have 30 plus Ral Partha figures that I had bought last century for D&D. And some Triremes. All mostly not painted. (Shame#2 & #3 unpainted R. Partha, most of GHQ still in their blister packs & opened ones only kind of painted). Discovered Fist Full of Lead rules. Mind blown-happily blown. Some of January n most of February painting n playing with my Ral Partha figures. Bought paint. Bought washes (haven't tried them yet). Bought a bunch of Reaper figures, Orcs, Ogres, n such. Mostly painted. But I've gone deep. Napoleonics. Only 3 of my 260 games are Napoleonics. 3. I always said I would never go near the subject and I just bought around 100 Napoleonic figures that should be here no later end of next week and I can't wait to try and paint them and play with them. And I bought some 15 mm cowboys for an okay corral shootout Don't like 15 because they're too small and hard for this old man with bad hands to paint. Everything else 28mm. So. Possible shame #4 how long will it take me to get those painted cuz I'm not good at detailed painting.
This was a really good exercise to go through. Let me know what you think of these ideas and share any tips for managing your own pile of shame!
My thing is I only buy models for armies that I’m currently doing, atm it’s seraphon and orks.
That's the best way, if you have the willpower :)

Yep! If its been sat on my shelf for two years, then sell it - I will never paint it 😊

My “piles of shame” are mostly digital at this point 🤣 loads of stl files waiting to be printed from various patreons.
That's something I hadn't even considered! If I had a 3d printer, I know I'd hoard those STLs 😂
Good points well raised.

Yes, you're completely right! I have so many models I don't really want, just because they came in big box sets.
I'm glad you dropped the Instagram filter that smoothes skin. It was really distracting and uncanny.
Great video keep it up ! :D

The easiest way I've found d to control my model addiction is be poor, being disabled has helped me a lot with this 🤣
My deal for Christmas is that I can't even open my combat patrol (space marines) until my entire army is painted. Great vid!
That sounds like a good plan! It's easy to keep opening new stuff and then your backlog keeps increasing 😁

Clearing out the "never gonna get to" can be so hugely cathartic. Nice video, Dene
Yes that's exactly it! Removing all the "noise" from life is good 😊
Great information. Thank you for the content.
Glad you enjoyed it - thanks Robert!
I always find its the random boxes of bits that weigh me down.
Do you have any shameful boxes like that? Maybe I'm just unorganised!
We don't talk about those 😊

That's the problem with hobbies, prioritising them is tough! There's never enough time to do everything 😔

That's exactly my thought process now - only buy models for games you play, rather than ones you "might" play!
Some good points there I may well steal the sorting the pile of shame Idea out into different sections 😁
Thanks man! Only problem now is I have loads of stuff to organise getting rid of 😂

I've gotten control of my new game buying but I don't know where I'm headed with the models et al...
I pray for you! 🙏 Get working through that backlog 😊
My advice, shame on my friends

I love painting. Give me
4 dominion boxes? lol
Yeah, now there's a story...... 😂
