Good review, lads. One thing I’d add is that lot of the camerawork and editing choices are typical von Trier traits, such as handheld shots, jump cuts, and breaking the 180 degree rule. They just serve a very specific narrative purpose this time.
I just watched the movie, was really confused by it and then discovered your channel. Glad I'm not the only one who was irritated at first, I didn't know what I got myself into either. I really enjoyed the video and would love to see a review of Nymphomaniac too!
I read this and immediately wanted to make a nerdy chemical reaction joke but then realized that I don't know what chemistry between people necessarily means since explosive or highly reactive can be used positively or negatively, then I spiraled into pedantic descriptions and metaphor attempts in my own head... I think instead I will just appreciate the compliment ;)
This was one of the most horrible things I have ever witnessed. Not just 'horrible movie I witnessed', I mean horrible things period. I once stepped through a carcass of a rotten raccoon, and had to hose maggot guts off of my foot, and this film was worse than that for me. Well done, I guess...sheesh.
