  • Hey!
    Some time ago I found this concept storyline on the Internet. Some say it was concept for "original" Homeworld 2 and later it was changed. I do not judge this concept, just wanted to share it with you people :). Have fun.

    So uh, this is kinda awkward. I wrote this plot back in 2005 for a mod called Dustwars. For anyone confused, it was meant as a prequel to an unused script for HW2 called HW Empires. I'm glad people like it though. This was a draft, I think I posted it on relicnews? Crazy.

    I like this story version much better than the Vagyr invasion plot. They kinda rushed with the whole Vagyr thing. They are only known as nomadic civilization and will absorb others into their ranks. It's like the whole Vagyr idea was an after-thought. Anyway, I like the idea of exploring the unknown Eastern Spiral.

    • @CheffBryan
      @CheffBryan 9 лет назад +6

      The part that irritated me especially was how they are supposedly nomads, but have no Mothership, no interesting stations whose sole intent is to house the members of their species. Throw in a shipyard rivaling Tannis, and you have a much more interesting threat to deal with.

    This video based on Homeworld2: Dustwars Total Conversion Mod story (written in mid-2007), which precedes original HW: Empire storyline, that has been sadly canceled in 2001.
    dustwars-story.blogspot.com/
    And yes, it's many times more interesting than the prophecies and chosen one stuff from restarted HW2.
    I really hope that in the HW3 they will finally tell us the story of the brave 15-th squadron :)

  • @rodtheworm
    @rodtheworm 12 лет назад +2

    It's definitely an alternate timeline for HW2 rather than a sequel - they use the Balcora gate and Eye of Arran to open up a hyperspace network, the Bentusi are still around and the 'Great Port of Nalthor' is very similar in name and shape to the 'Great Port of Bentus'. .
    I'm glad they changed it if this was the plan - the essence of the games was trying to stay one step ahead of a more powerful opponent, fighting a guerilla war until you had the firepower to take them head on.

    This would be perfect for HW 3 because the hiigarans have become very strong after hw 2 and with sajuuk ( and maybe the progenitor) on their side this could make them have the ability to create very strong and exotic ships and strikecraft and stuff
    It's like the next stage in the growth of the hiigaran empire

  • @Koshy2

    Wish they would have went with this idea for 2 instead of that weird hyperspace core Vagyr invasion stuff. Nowhere in HW is it said that the hyperspace core was some kind of amazing unique relic. It's even hinted at in the story that it was totally dismantled in order to reverse engineer it.

    I think we might be talking at crossed purposes. I think we agree that the only Bentusi that still exist are the ones who escaped in Cataclysm, who are said to be jumping to a different galaxy.
    What I mean is that, even with Homeworld 2's opening of the hyperspace gate network (only appears to span the galaxy, in the cutscene) there is still no way for anyone to follow them and no reason for them to return (if they could) because they think the Beast is still about. Just my take on it. ;)

    That captain flew with a clean-up vanguard of the fleet of the empire that incinerated an entire world under a clause millenia old that couldn't possibly have gone remembered, and the Kadeshi would not even let the Kushan fleet leave willingly, at that point it's a matter of carving your way out with pulsar and ion cannon. I do acknowledge how splintered they were, however. and conflict will erupt from THAT.

    It's a good story for a novel, or a movie but not for the game. No clearly distinctive factions with unique features, tech and lore. No really ominous power that threats the galaxy and with it no real need for further progress like research and engineering. A game like this would be boring to death even to the hardcore HW fans. Even though the Vagyr concept was a bit clumsily introduced, still it's much more fun than fighting for power between Hiigarans.

  • @yunzhonghou
    @yunzhonghou 5 лет назад +3

    In terms of storytelling I see several problems here. There's too many unrelated events and no unifying storyline, a lack of conflict, an un-fired Chekhov's gun (the first enemies fleeing to Karos and *not* ressurecting some ancient Progenitor relic to take on Hiigara), the Protagonist's faction not being the underdog, too much politicking (not good for games), and even a 20-year time skip in the middle of the story (tells you the story is missing tempo). There's too much backstory compared to the gameplay plot (mentioned at the end) and it's barely even tangentially related. It's lacking the mystique of adventure and the uncovering of ancient artifacts among derelicts that features prominently among HW2 (and is one of its strongest points). For a truly tightly crafted story that would make an epic HW3 game I recommend the complete fanfic Wrath of the Gods (www.fanfiction.net/s/2336255/1/Homeworld2-Wrath-of-the-Gods) (not my story, though I have read it a few times). It has everything you'd want in a Homeworld game, plenty of callbacks to existing characters and factions, and amazing story beats.

    Was this the official storyline? If so, I'm sad to say I think I actually prefer HW2's release version. Yes it was heavily flawed, cliche and shallow compared to HW1's epic tale of exile and redemption, but it at least had action. This just reads and feels utterly boring. As far as I can tell virtually nothing happens until towards the end (or beginning, which ever way you see it).

    • @bengrogan9710

      To each our own. HW2 is apocrypha to me, what with it ignoring the basics of HW1 and Cataclysm/Emergence. Even Deserts of Kharak helps on deliberately avoiding the game's importance (although a certain scene involving hyperspace bugs me).
