You all must be out of your damn minds to schedule and set the so called debate in Oxford. Brainwashed intellectuals. I would rather listen to this under an African tree or baobab. Did the Europeans go China to form or debate about the EU? This is ridiculously childish and laughable As far I am concerned.

Nyerere won over Kwame Nkrumah because Nyerere belongs to the Monrovia group. Africa lost because the Casablanca group ( Ghana, Egypt, Guinea, Mali, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia ) lost the vote of African unity in 1963. Today, we can all see that Nyerere was wrong and Nkrumah was right.

French imperialism fractured that vote even more with the Brazzaville group as well, I.e. African French speaking states. Ridiculous though for African territories to join together based on a foreign language.

I agree. Why is this debate about the future of the continent being held in a colonial institution? Arthur Mutambara's argument is based on colonial perspective. Is this the prequel of the Berlin Conference 2? The Continent should determine its own future amongst its own people.

African started on a bad footing from the word go! It is not academic debate that propels a nation to the top. Rather it is the resolve and focus of its leadership! Africa will never unite through debates not especially in a bourgeois institution like Oxford university. What Africa needs is an African peoples' revolution! No amount of international conferences or economic development projects can bring African together as one country! Only an African revolution can do that for there are issues at stake. The question is how to start the revolution. And I think that's what every Panafricanist should be reflecting on.

Great idea but very difficult to do at this point in time. I think forming five federations of North, south, east, west and central Africa would definitely work, with one president for each federation. Right now in existence is the east African federation. The different leaders switches turns to be president of the federation. I think this can absolutely work.

That is exactly the Nyerere model that he rejected and I get his point. Fair enough in theory we should build it up slowly but:
      1. Multiple other interests will worm their way into the various politics and slow the process down to a halt (which is what we are seein now as every member state drags its feet towards implementing the unification of that various regions).
      2. We are better off ripping off the bandage and starting off the state now then spending the next 2, 3 or 4 decades ironing out the differences and integrating the various nations into a singular nation state.

If Africa unites, every African across the diaspora will unite, if Africa remains separate then so will every African across the diaspora. What this gentleman just described were 54 men who care more about themselves, than the millions of Africans across the globe. It is men like these who keep Africa and African people in the conditions they are in today. I pray to see the day when Africa experiences it very last coup d'etat

My problem with an African Union is just with the leaders😤. How can we be sure these corrupt🤑 leaders won't carry their corrupt nature of greed, selfishness, etc. over to the AU. To whom much is given much is expected, so if they can't even be willing to be self-disciplined😇 enough to handle their individual countries properly with their peoples' well-beings in mind, how can we even REALISTICALLY expect them to swear or promise they would do better on an even larger one. I think an African Union in these times is a very CARELESS and FOOLISH move. The corrupt leaders who know their ulterior motives in office only satisfy them at the expense of the livelihoods and well-beings of the very people they should be serving, CAN NOT and probably NEVER be noble enough to abdicate their positions for others who are better suited for those roles(meritocracy ). Otherwise, impeach the corrupt leaders before they make Africa's problems worse👎 in an African Union😔🙏 Please

I fear the chaos of the a blanket move to universal AU. How will the leader be chosen? If we were to fight like America did would the fight ever end with tribalism still rife? Are the examples really relevant in the face of the sheer number of tribes in Africa? We need our own blueprint. Smart people should gather and plot viable paths forward. Ideas that a majority can get on board with. If people are to relinquish national identity then the proportion should look resoundingly better and the blueprint should be conceivable to many not just a few intellectuals.

Great discourse but a couple of notable falws. One, drop the "United Sates" wording and call it "The Republic of Africa"...two, discuss reparation only in terms of arms including nuclear weapons.

I think Arthur Mutambala needed to differentiate African Unity from African Union

I feel like these Africans are forgetting about the Arab nations that are more connected to the Arab world. Remember that Egypt and Syria was one state very recently.

I don't think we should unify with them, we see the recent enslavement in Libya, and we see their expansion into interia Africa. Their objective is to steal your hearts, head, and minds, through the political platform of Islam, by deceit, strategem, or murderous mischiefs. Africa, don't be fooled, for you have been for over fourteen hundred years. No some even hybredize themselves into miserable mutts, band are claiming to be Arabs, nonsense. But we know the mischiefs, so do not build with untempered mortor, don't unite with your historical adversary, who continue to trouble you to this day.

@Sh Sh yeah why? Many africans do not consider themselves africans. That was the point of my comment. So you african unionists need to pipe down.

We can't unite because the Islamic religious beliefs are held too conservative. I'm not saying conservatism is bad it's just this religion normally refuses assimilation with other religions and so there will be conflicts. It has always been so and is still so.
By the way, i respect the Islamic religion.

My interest is not on all these talk shows but stepping on which ever fucking toe neccessary to start implementation of United states of Africa, let the sheep stay as sheep let the crooks & thief's stay as they are. The secret is now open, power must change hands to another.

Its sounds good to say united Africa but that's a dream that will remain a dream not because of western powers but selfish greed of Africans.
