Hi, Dan. Ron is definitely missed. I appreciated the ops sessions I attended over the years and still enjoy going back and watching the videos I was able to get of his layout. -Mike
My father worked for Frisco as a mechanic from 1971 to 80 when burlington took over. We moved to Missouri (south greenfield) in 76' and he was stationed i guess you could say out of Springfield. Stayed with the railroad til 91. Forced to retire dur to old football injury from high school and from bending down on the hard cold ground in the winter to fix track or tie laying machines. Miss the Frisco days and my Father too. Alot of respect to him.
Very cool video! The yard in Springfield, Missouri is still a cool place to visit, I get called to take BNSF crews up there pretty often, and you still see some neat stuff, even if it's not as diverse as it was in the Frisco years.
Ron's Frisco Terminal Railroad was a fine example of an Operating Layout; that is, the model was operated just like the real railroad, but in miniature. Operating crew members were assigned to jobs switching cars at the various industries at different areas of the layout, just as happened in the real world. Working an operating layout requires thought; puzzling out how to make the moves to pick up and spot cars. This is not just running trains across the layout, or around in a circle. This is replicating the work that was done by railroad crews on the Frisco. I had the distinct pleasure of operating there on a number of occasions and I am saddened by the loss of this fine road.
@@kadebruce295 I'm so sorry to hear that, he was a great guy. I got to run on his layout a few years ago when a few of us set up a free-mo layout at the Springfield train show a couple of times. He told me a story about a Pizza Hut commercial he did back in the 60's here in Wichita where he drives a little kiddie mustang car and got paid $80. It was a funny commercial. R.I. P. Ron.
Thank you! I have a lot more videos rolling out in the coming weeks. I checked out your channel and subscribed. I like your stuff and look forward to seeing more!
@@MainTrack - Thank you! It's nice to know anouther Pro youtuber who railfan the same area as me. Feels like I'm more connected to this channel than others. So I just want to say that you do amazing work that me and other fellow youtubers love and strive to become close to. You are an inspiration to all.
Thank you for the compliments. I'm glad you enjoy the videos. I hope to make some episodes soon highlighting how I put together the videos and some of the equipment and techniques I use. Lots more to come!
Thanks for watching, Echo5562! We have lots more "real" train videos coming soon. As seen here, I plan to incorporate some model railroading going forward.
Hello! You bet. Frisco decided to make the switch to red/orange and white scheme in 1965. It was 66/67-ish when the livery started to become more common on units.
Good memories seeing this. Helped build it, hated seeing it torn down. Miss Ron even more.

Always sad to see a great layout taken down. Just hope the next one is bigger and better!
RIP Ron Williams. RIP his layout.

Thank you! Yes, things have certainly changed some over the years. I miss seeing the big diesel and car shops.

I feel your sadness just reading your comment, made me glassy eyed!
Amazing layout, Rest In Peace Ron.
Did Ron pass away?
@@corker5735 Yes. Ron passed away in early 2020.

@@corker5735 I agree. He was a great guy. I remember seeing that commercial. It was pretty funny, and now serves as a reminder of him.
RIP Ron you'll be missed
Glad I could be a part of the final op session. Great video Mike!
Neat layout! It would be tedious to disassemble. Fantastic video, as always!
Love the intro!! I also really really like the Frisco. They had such a cool and diverse paint scheme. Sad how the layout couldn't last.

The Main Track , that would be great content. Your video quality is way above average, excellent really, very professional.
Great video! Ron had an amazing layout.
Great layout!
As someone who lives down the street from the Springfield yard, I must say, he nailed it! Has he since rebuilt the layout?
Yes, it was an awesome layout! Unfortunately, Ron is no longer with us. I’m glad we had the chance to capture this video of his great railroad!
This is different from the original vids I'm used to but this is still so amazing!

Too much to tear down. I would forget the new home.
26 yrs to build, 13 to tear down. New home...not an option!
I hope the new layout is better for him. It's always sad to tear out one....
Could someone tell me what year Frisco went to the red and white paint scheme.

You were at the Roark valley Model Railroad's open house this past June, weren't you?
Hi, Trevlyn. Yes, I was! What a cool layout they have.
