      check out openlaura, tomb raider 1 running on the 32x (early porting development). we're starting to see that the 32x is more capable than we were lead to believe. i'm almost convinced now that the 32x was capable of a 1:1 port of this game or that there should be zero difference between the two aside the music.

      I owned both original.
      In my opinion Saturn version (which i also played with official Sega Saturn steering wheel) even if with some better quality sprites poligon and better framerate, was horrible to play, missed everything that made the original, 32X version, it was far from be coin op perfect for sure, but on the other side, did an incredible job with handling of Stock cars, which was much more similar to the concept of Daytona USA than Virtua Racing, only much better than any version of Daytona itself on Saturn... • @AvengerII
      @AvengerII 5 лет назад +2

      The gameplay on VR Virtua Racing is still very good by today's standards.
      It's one of my all-time favorite racers, especially the eight-car linked version they had at EPCOT.
      I understand many Dave & Busters (combo bar/eatery & arcade) locations also have that version of Virtua Racing in their arcades, too.
      None of the console conversions of Virtua Racing were arcade perfect.
      They also re-released Virtua Racing on the Sega Ages collection for the PS2. Several Model 2 games were ported to PS2 -- Virtua Racing, Virtua Fighter 2, etc. A few games were bundled together on one Sega Ages disc collection for PS2 in North America. Virtua Racing on that disc but it's not perfect. It's acceptable but there's a feel to the arcade they never captured on the home versions.
      Daytona on PC and Saturn was far closer to the arcade version.

      Claudio liriano probably not, the Model 1 board was significantly more powerful than the Saturn, and though it didn’t have textures it had a very high polygon count it could push at 60fps. Best way to think of it, Saturn was a jack of all trades master of none, and the model 1 board was just a master of flat polygons. The Model 2 conversions they could creatively hide things behind the texture maps. VF2 characters had a lot less polygons compared to the arcade, and the backgrounds were flat assets. Great gameplay and art direction helped that game. Daytona was awful.

    i had all the two versions of the game, and i have no doubt about the fact that the best version is absolutely the 32x version, even if the graphic and frame rate were absolutely better on the Sega Saturn version.
    The 32x version of Virtua racing was giving the best atmosphere of the coin op version, and the Sega Saturn version was giving a "flat feeling" to me.
    I also think, that the 32x version of Virtua Racing "Deluxe" was the best console porting of a Sega Racing Arcade racing on a home system in the 90's, second place was Sega Rally on Sega Saturnbon 1996.

    It's awesome how Sega pushed the Mega Drive until the end. The Mega Drive was already more powerful than the PC Engine and on par with the SNES but they still expanded its capabilities 2 times, first with the Mega-CD and later with the 32X. Just, it's too bad that the 32X was so poorly managed, it was too much at once with the Saturn coming around the same time... Still it has some great games, which is what matter in the end, and Virtua Racing Deluxe is one of these!

    Normally the 32x version looks brighter than the Saturn version but not in this video. They are both great games but the 32x version obviously has better control and gives more feel of the Arcade. I always felt though that cartridge based games are better than Cd. The actual Arcade Virtua Racing isn't running off of CD. Some may say the Saturn version has better sound than the Arcade version but 32x version sounds closer to the Arcade. Being that im a big fan of 64 Bit/32 Bit Cartridges I love the Sega 32X, Atari Jaguar & Nintendo 64. I hated all the loading time too in cd based games.

      Ummm...the carts were great when that was all we had. However, disc based media expanded gaming far beyond what any cart can ever hope to do and it's still happening today. I own/owned every cart based machine that has ever released in the states starting with the Atari 7800 (1984 test launch) all the way to the Nintendo Switch.
      While carts were great once games like Suikoden I-II, Final Fantasy VII, Symphony of The Night, Panzer Dragoon I-II, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Dragon Force, Metal Gear...starting hitting across disc based platforms the cart was done. Those amazing experiences would have been impossible on a cart based system at the time. I would gladly choose to have loading times of 2 to 3 minutes a piece just to experience those games again for the first time. I only included 5th generation consoles but...the Sega Dreamcast also fits and the loading times on it were greatly, greatly improved. There is no way a 94Mb N64 cart has a chance against a 1.2GB GD-ROM (basically CD ROM tech).

    • @graalcloud
      @graalcloud 3 месяца назад +1

      Absolutely, the loading times on consoles like Saturn, Sega CD and Playstation was an absolute joy killer for me. We were so used to not having the loading times. For me N64's choice to go with cartridge rather than CD was an absolute win and it really shows in a game like Ocarina of Time which blew 100% of the PS1's offerings away in terms of graphics, immersion and gameplay, not to mention it has 100% in-game 3D rendered cutscenes rather than the awful looking FMV cutscenes that were present in CD based games.

All that Virtua Racing goodness with zero load screens. I do not have the Saturn version and never played it but it does look good but I heard the controls were a little off. • @malcolmar
      @malcolmar Год назад +2

      @@LaskyLabs LOL. I wish Sega was more like Nintendo. Instead of all the in fighting at Sega they could have had a multi-tier approach like Nintendo had with the N64 GBA and made games specific to the platform's strengths. The Saturn could have been home to unique titles like Panzer Dragoon, Nights and Astal whereas the 32X could have been home to Sega's 32-bit arcade ports like Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder, Rad Mobile, and a true arcade port of Super Monaco GP with the occasional 16-bit Genesis game thrown in every now and then. Oh well. It would be cool if we had third-party developers and indie developers make games for the 32X like they have been doing for the Genesis. 32X Doom Resurrection on the 32X is amazing.

    Esse jogo só mostra que o Saturn seria extremamente desnecessário, caso 32x e SEGA CD fossem bem planejados. Se colocassem os GPU's e os processadores de 32 bits no SEGA CD mesmo que isso levasse um tempo a mais de desenvolvimento, se teria praticamente um console de 32 bits com retrocompatibilidade com um de 16 na mesma mídia de CD.

    • @ssfn1_
      @ssfn1_ 7 лет назад +5

      +Alanzin Se vc colocasse os chips gráficos e os processadores de 32 bits no Sega CD, VC TERIA O SEGA SATURN, PORRA! O Virtua Racing é um dos primeiros jogos lançados pra Saturn, e um dos piores gráficos do console, não deve usar nem 0,1% da capacidade do Saturn. Já no 32X, esses gráficos são os máximos a serem alcançados, dá até pra sentir o cheiro de plástico derretendo quando vc joga isso no Mega com 32X... E outra: Sega CD nem foi um console, foi um acessório do Mega. Que retrocompatibilidade é essa na qual vc precisa ter o console anterior pra jogar?

    • @aIanzin
      @aIanzin 7 лет назад +1

      CowboyTanaka não. O 32x era umas 3 ou 4 vezes inferior ao Saturn, pois tinha apenas um processador de 20 mhz, fraco para rodar os jogos. E porque não colocar um Add-on que fizesse o Mega saltar de geração no lugar de um console que não deu certo? A SEGA além de segurar as pontas nos EUA e Europa, ia dar mais tempo ainda para aprimorarem o Dreamcast.

    • @ssfn1_
      @ssfn1_ 7 лет назад +4

      +Alanzin Segurar as pontas por 4 anos? A Sega quebraria antes de pensar em Dreamcast... O 32X e o Sega CD foram 2 tentativas fracassadas de fazer o que vc falou: fazer o Mega pular de uma geração (16-bit) para outra (32-bit) e aumentar o seu tempo de vida. Vc queria uma terceira? Não se passa pra uma nova geração produzindo um acessório que dependa de hardware antigo e obsoleto. Por isso que o Saturn nunca seria desnecessário. Imagina alguém como eu, que iniciou na 5a geração, ser obrigado a comprar um console da geração passada + 2 acessórios pra poder desfrutar da nova geração, ainda assim resultando em um console totalmente inferior aos outros. Não faz sentido.

    32x definitely is more of a retro collector novelty... Seeing as these are relatively the same. I'm sure the controls got even better for the Saturn version just as the 32x's got better from the Genesis'... But still, gotta love that charm in that 32-bit gritty flat shaded polygonal goodness... I play the Saturn version with the steering wheel. Never played the 32x nor the arcade version so i can't tell if it's any better except for my opinion on the game itself. It plays smoothly, the drift mechanics are a lot of fun but the graphics, although i like them, are horrible. I genuinely have a hard time seeing where i'm going sometimes because it's so pixelated. I'm probably spoiled with modern race games where everything looks so smooth and crisp though.
    Edit: I have this problem mostly when i play in cockpit mode, otherwise it's not so much of a big deal.

    The 32x was such a beast of a console, it did exactly what it said it could do, the saturn should of been dumped and the 32x should of been the mainstay until the Dreamcast, we would still probably have a Sega console division today in that timeline.

    Considering the hardware, 32X pulls an amazing game here. It might be technicaly inferior, but 32X is the spiritual winner. I always thought Virtua Racing and Virtua Fighter for the 32X were the best versions of those games and the best the add-on system had to offer. Both were great party games, too. Saturn shoudn't have had the Model 1 games to begin with, just like the Sega CD, not the 32X, shoud've had the Super Scaler games

    Compare with 32X when Saturn is traveling at 300 km/h. The comparison conditions are not fair.

    Na questão grafica o Saturno da um show aparente mente ele roda a 60 quadros com sprites maiores e maior resolução. Eu não joguei esse jogo no saturno pra saber se a jogabilidade é realmente ruim. Visualmente o Saturno da um show e o mega 32x tbm da um show mas roda com graficos um pouco inferiores e a 30 quadros provavelmente reduzindo a fluidez do jogo.

    Although the Saturn version looks nicer the 32X version is still my ultimate favourite version. Even the Genesis/MegaDrive version will get more play than the Saturn version.
    I think it's because owning them when they were brand spanking new its that still awe of seeing these graphics coming out of my 16BIT MegaDrive or the enhanced 32X version, kinda gave me a taste of what future 32X games may be like... Well what did I know?
    The problem with the Saturn version is it doesn't have that original Arcade feel and don't get me started on the replays. Where the cars are always on top of all the scenery... seriously take a look for yourself.
    How did the almighty Saturn mess that up? Of course its down to the developers, it was probably made on a tight budget, with a short release date with no real knowledge of the hardware.
    Worth playing sure. But 32X version is still the definitive version.
